I found some games which only have Japanese such as KanColle - Fleet Girls Collection or Tsuki ni Yorisou Otome no Sahou and something like these, just I want to play.
The same situation happens in Wind Fantasy and The Scroll of Taiwu that only have Chinese supported.
Will you guys just quit or find some ways to figure it out?

So it's acceptable if the UI can be read?
I don't even understand how could I play the games on FC in those languages just like abstract paintings when I was a kid. It's too hard now.

Yea, I did some about that like you too. But not enough time.
I know your id "Sakura" means "桜" in Japanese,a flower, "hana", but that's all.

Not only do you learn to understand the game and what is going on, but you also extend your education. Win win.

If you have the google translate app, it can now translate live. You don’t need to constantly take photos. Set up an ipad or something in front of whatever you need, and try that. Alternatively, most menus in japanese are hiragana or katakana, which I learned in a week, which is another option. If the game is popular enough, fan translations or patches usually happen

Just depends on the type of game it is, and how badly I wanted to play it. I've imported action games and rhythm music games without need for understanding any of it.

I played FFXIII imported back in the day. It was actually better than when I played it in English. Barely understood what was happening but it looked incredible.

If you want it bad enough, translate the menus manually, and then struggle the rest of the way, as and story elements become really vague.

I remember being young and buying a dbz game for mega drive (Dragon Ball Z: Buyū Retsuden, it even came with a japanese cartridge converter). Its not like I could go online and find translations, so lets just say it wasn't the most seamless experience. I still kinda enjoyed it.

You can check on https://vndb.org/ if there is an official English release or not. If there isn’t, you’ll have to find your own patch somewhere or do what I said above

I played through japanese Naruto ps2 fighters no problem, but a full on story game? Nah. Wouldn't do it to myself.

If only I stuck to learning japanese when I tried 12 years ago, I could have been fluent by now. But no I procrastinated and gave up.

But the second one would be official released on September, and the patch for EA can hardly be used on that. I've known some Japanese and Chinese but not that much. Now it looks like I need to set up those apps...BTW, the first game I mentioned is a visual novel, damn perfect XD.

Play in simulater on PC. It can be possible with google....
VNR looks like works on texts in game directly so it may not work on simulateer. I know a dango-translater software does work but can only turn that into Chinese, which relies on OCR.

If possible, try https://ztranslate.net/ . it looks like the dango-translater.
Still need to play on PC.
I haven't set up yet, so I'm not sure if it would work.
However,if what the website said is true, it can definitely solve our problems.

By the time you’ve learned enough Japanese to understand a text-heavy game, you’ll probably have lost interest in the game already.
I managed to play some games in Japanese (eg, Kingdom Hearts 2) because they were very visual and most voices in menus were in kana, but I won’t pretend I got much of the story (truth be told, with KH you’re not supposed to get much of the story in your language, either).

Oh, that's normal, played lots of JRPG's back in the day. These days, If I am in a JDM Car, it's easy, simply use a mobile picture translator.

Depends on the game. If its an anime game? I can handle subs. Its no different than watching an anime.


But if its like Elden Ring or another more serious game? I just wouldn't play it.

Depends entirely on the game and to which extent.
I already only play games in thier natve voiceover as long as it has english menus and subs.
Pokemon HeartGold i played entirely in japanese, including texts.

Honestly, I probably just wouldn’t play it, unless it was super simple and I could just work it out by fiddling around for a couple of minutes.

But even then, I’d have to have heard that it was worth the effort.

fine by me; I speak 4 languages, and understand Spanish and French writing at least (studied both as a child) So I'm good because of this I can import from anywhere and fly by.

There are so many fan translations out there especially for retro (up to PS3) systems that I’m always able to find something that I’m looking for.
