Well, obviously going to be some spoilers but try to lay off anything too new. You know, a warning or something. Bold titles for the movies maybe, I dunno. But anyway. No way could I remember all of em right at this moment so just a few

Rocky III

Mick dying. The montage after that where Rocky's lost his title, is all bruised up, has to put him in the casket is real sad. And the trip through the city on the bridge and looking at his statue. Mick was a beloved character and a real core to the Rocky movies. A bit of me felt like the series ended right there. Rock's blubbering broke the moment a little bit though. Stallone did NOT nail that one.

American History X

The ending. period.

A Bronx Tale

C losing all he knew basically before the end and never getting to thank Sonny.

Eh, I'll leave it at there for now. Likely be back with a list later.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit

When Christopher Lloyd dunks that cartoon shoe into the acid.

Saddest movie moment ever, bar none. Fucking Bambi's mom.

The whole sinking scene in Titanic, with all the slow motions of different people crying/screaming/dying, and the music.

The ending. The way the captain falls dead just after witnessing his submarine go down. He went through hell in it and it was all gone like that, right before his eyes

The Shawshank Redemption

The mother of all sad moments. Brooks death. The way it led up to it once he got out of jail, how he couldn't handle it. Then the final scene as the camera fades out with the words 'Brooks was here' carved into the wood and him just hanging there.

The Program:
When Alvin Mack (ESU Linebacker) shatters his knee (McGahee style). He'll never be able to play again...he'll never be able to get his mom the house he wanted to give her. :(

I have to add a catergory
Funniest Death:
Steven Seagal - Executive Decision
They friggin kill off Seagal in the first 20 minutes of the movie!

mrklaw

MrArseFace
Silent Running - poor huey duey and louie ;_;

AI - towards the end when David is just waiting...

Always - when Dreyfuss lets go finally.

Grave of the fireflies - the whole thing

End of Dancer in the Dark.

i watched this at home with some friends - and the movie finished and i was speechless. i had no speech! that was without a doubt, the most depressing ending to a movie i've ever seen - i just kind of sat there looking at the tv blankly. i'll never watch it again :p

The ending.

Glory

Near the end when Shaw sends his horse running on the beach as he gazes out at the blue sky one last time.

I just watched Braveheart recently and I thought the end was incredibly sad. At least Wallace came out the moral victor.

Either because the rest of the movie sucked, or because it had such a huge impact on me as a kid, I can't remember any of the movie past Bambi becoming an adult after his mom dies.

YES. i was tormented by that scene when i was a kid. the thought of it sends a pang of distress through me even now. the really distressing thing about is the prospect of the other cartoon shoe of the pair, which is now presumably alone and miserable. i can't remember whether the other shoe was ever on screen, or even implied. but it has tremendous pathos, that other shoe. things like that drive me nuts.

I completely lose it at the end of Schlinder's List when he's looking at his car and he's like "This could have saved X more people if I just sold it".... man, that just tears me apart.

I know, I know I've let you down
I've been a fool to myself
I thought that I could live for no one else
But now through all the hurt and pain
It's time for me to respect
The ones you love mean more than anything

So, with sadness in my heart
Feel the best thing that I could do
Is end it all and leave forever
What's done is done it feels so bad
What once was happy now is sad
I'll never love again
My world is ending

I wish that I could turn back time
Cos now the guilt is all mine
Can't live without
The trust from those you love
I know we can't forget the past
You can't forget love and pride
Because of that, it's killing me inside

It all returns to nothing
It all comes tumbling down, tumbling down, tumbling down
It all returns to nothing
I just keep letting me down, letting me down, letting me down

In my heart of hearts
I know that I could never love again
I've lost everything, everything
Everything that matters to me
Matters in this world

I wish that I could turn back time
Cos now the guilt is all mine
Can't live without the trust from those you love
I know we can't forget the past
You can't forget love and pride
Because of that, it's killing me inside

It all returns to nothing
It just keeps tumbling down, tumbling down, tumbling down
It all returns to nothing
I just keep letting me down, letting me down, letting me down
It all returns to nothing
It just keeps tumbling down, tumbling down, tumbling down
It all returns to nothing
I just keep letting me down, letting me down, letting me down

It's interesting how two people mentioned this, but for me and I know others I saw the movie with, this was the absolute low point of the movie - several people in the audience burst out laughing.

Grave of the Fireflies (all of it) and the scene described above in Shawshank Redemption are probably my picks. The ending of ET was pretty affecting for its time too.

Grave Of The Fireflies - most of it, but especially the end.

Cinema Paradiso - the whole end-part in the extended version is so incredibly sad and nostalgic, and has such a beautiful score...

Magnolia - the very last couple of seconds. They're actually happy, but in a sad way. Or sad in a super-happy way.

Schindler's List - haven't seen it for years, but I know I had to struggle in order not to shed tears here and there. The fate of the red girl stands out.

Braveheart is up there.. but I didn't find the ending too bad. It sparks deeper emotion in me because I'm actually related to one of the clan's that play a major role. Two scenes in particular got me..

1) slitting of his love's throat :/
2) wallace removing the Bruce's helmet and seeing the betrayal first hand.. awesome acting here. I wish Angus MacFadyen (The Bruce) would get more roles, although I admit he certainly wasn't the greatest in Equilibrium.

Absolutely. Positively. Dancer in the Dark.

I'd wager the only people not saying it are people who haven't seen it.

I don't know what it's called in English, but here it is:

Platvoet, a movie about a baby dinosaur.

About ten to fifteen minutes into the movie, Platvoet's mother dies and he's all alone in the harsh pre-historic world. He walks around aimlessly but then a big leaf comes floating over him on the wind. The leaf has a drip of water on it, like a tear. Platvoet sees the leaf and hears his mother calling him and he follows the leaf, thinking it would somehow lead him to his mother. Of course, it turns out to be just a leaf...

I cried every time I saw this as a child.

Dancer In the Dark is a good one.

I'd also mention several parts of Dogville before a certain twist.

I recently saw a movie that was crushingly depressing and I can't remember which one. It was basically the whole film too. Crap, I'll come back with it!

The Land Before Time, I think. Haven't seen it since I was a kid, but yeah, I remember that being pretty sad.

E.T. - When ET says goodbye and that whole 'death' sequence.

Glory - This one has a number of moments that get me, but just about the entire final battle is pretty emotional. You know they're not going to make it and yet it's such a noble and amazing moment. Glory's a superb film.

The end of the movie. I never was moved by a movie like Irreversible. Since the movie was told in this strange reserve way, the build up to a more quiet life was way too much. Especially the way Monicca was laying on the grass, pregnant, reading a book with kids running around with this powerful Mozard (?) song. Then the camera spins out of control, some crazy flashing happens (i have still to make out what appears on the screen) and then IRREVERSIBLE starts flashing.

Only few movie can create such emotions on a viewer. You guys need to watch that movie. Please turn off the homophobic hate switch for the first 20 minutes, and try to cope with the crazy camera work. You will understand everything at the end.

Irreversible is certainly a work of art. Few movies can be so horrible, awful and dirty and yet show the most beautiful imagery and makes you feel so well in the span of 1h30.

This is an important movie to see! Avoid the dubbed version, track down a copy with the original french voices + subtitles. The actors are really great and the way they talk (and the anger they express as the movie builds up) make the movie work.

I made several posts about that movie, yet I never had any comments about it. Please GAF, do not let Shuri down! Go rent it TONIGHT
