What's the absolute worst game of 2014 you played?

I didn't play that many truly bad ones. I guess if it had to come out this year, the worst I played was Kirby 3DS, and even that wasn't bad, I just didn't want to finish it because I got bored.

Probably Amazing World.

I thought it would be funny to play for a stream I was doing. It was really awful. I know it's a children's MMO but fuuuuuuck.

I don't buy games that don't interest me, certainly not full price. I don't rush out and preorder games on hype alone, I also don't tend to buy most games year one unless I really can't wait. Because of this naming what's worst its really tough as I liked all of the few games from this year I actually did buy. I liked Dark Souls 2, Evil Within, Ultra Street Fighter 4 and Valkyria Chronicles(if that counts), but I guess if forced to choose I'd say USF4 as I'm tiring of it now after all the iterations.

There were plenty of older games that I finally jumped on because of sales that I didn't like though. Namely Castle Crashers and Skyrim, if I'd bothered to dip into the obscurities of my Steam backlog I could probably have found much worse though.

Destiny, got the Limited Edition wich i think is the WORST MISTAKE i have done regarding videogames in my entire life of gaming. Ive been playing games since the Atari 2600. Ive seen my fare share of shity games but nothing compares to Destiny.

I've sold the game a while ago, I have not played the 2 DLC's that I got for free, I have not even used the DLC code and will not ever use it, and NO i will not give it to anyone. I have kept it to remind me how shity that game is and so i don't repeat the same mistake.

Wolfenstein? Last of Us? Man either some of you have really shitty taste or you play like 2-3 games a year.

I mentioned it because of how bad the PC port is. If I had it on the PS4 or even just had a Nvidia GPU in my laptop I'm sure I would have had more fun.

The one that sticks out most for me this year is Ryse: Son of Rome on PC. Game is beautiful and combat was fun the first few minutes. Then I realized that there was nothing else to the game and it got really boring. At that point, a couple of hours in, I hit a bug that wouldn't let me continue anyways. I called it then and there.

It really came across as a tech demo for Cry Engine 3 to me.

I looked over the worst reviewed games and this was the only one I played that caught my eye and made me go ugh

Assassin's Creed Liberation HD

I didn't play a whole lot this year. Unfortunately. I think my life was just overwhelmed.

Dragon Age II I suppose takes the cake off the top of my head. Wtf is that combat?

Little Inferno was pretty dumb. Like... I get it. I get the whole point behind it and what it was trying to say.

But... it wasn't really fun at all. And the fact that I finished it despite that is pretty ironic because of what the whole idea behind the game is.

mmm opinions and all I thought it was pretty clever.

I am very proud of myself for the games I bought. Maybe PoP on an impulse buy on steam.

I would say that Escape Plan and Secret Ponchos, both PS+.

With the caveat that I generally don't have enough time to buy/play bad games, I'll say Don't Starve. I can understand why people like it, and it's an interesting game, but the combination of no direction, grinding, and roguelike is not for me.

Also disappointed to see the Evil Within posts. I haven't played it yet, but I picked it up on black friday.

Well cheer up cause theres quite a fe wof us on here that would rate TEW as GOTY. I absolutely loved it.

Also surprised to see mentions of Infamous SS. Im playing it now and really enjoying it for the most part, a few frustrations aside.

Dead State (Kickstarter Zombie RPG)

Just feels so clunky and a chore to play. Doki Doki Universe too (but it was free so I don't mind).

I think that those, plus Wolfenstein, were all good games. I'm surprised to see them in a list of worst thing you've played this year as well. There have been some lucky people if one of those is the worst game you've played in a year.

Probably watch_dogs. I dunno who thought unlikable prick adventures should be a genre but I don't like it.

The sad part is that Ubisoft legit thought Aiden Pearce was going to be the next big, cool character. All that shit with the "Iconic cap", just ugh

They should kill him off in the opening cutscene of Watch_Dogs 2 in the most brutal way possible. Trevor from GTA V is a more sympathetic character.

I played AC3 and Walking Dead Survival Instinct and actually enjoyed them. I think I have a strong tolerance level for bad games.

This game is in my backlog, to be played soon. How often does that occur?

I just ordered the first game on Amazon last night. Should I keep my expectations low? I watched the first few LP videos on youtube and seems 'not bad'

I liked the first one. thought the wilderness/werewolf sections took way to long. I much preferred the gothic vampire parts.

Strictly speaking they're both tail end of 2013 releases but Crimson Dragon and Spartan Assault on Xbox One are both godawful

good thing both were free

Most of the complaints I've seen with The Evil Within come down to personal preference things like the cinematic presentation and willingness to put up with the framerate issues.

I see very little criticism of the actual game itself, not anything worth a damn, anyway.

I wouldn't worry about it. It's a great game with a few low spots, a terrible story, and some polish issues. It's easy to blow a few of those low points up into the biggest deal in the world, though.

I don't really play bad games. But I guess I would say halo mcc. Because I was so ready to play and with all the issues it's had, I stopped trying. Huge waste of money and time

1. Lightning Returns - I liked FFXIII and XIII-2, but the horrible in-game graphics, bad story (worst twist ending I've seen in years), and time constraints made this a chore to play. The only good thing I can say is that it wasn't a complete waste of time due to the combat system and the soundtrack was good.

2. Destiny - Everything worked, it just felt soulless, repetitive, and boring.

3. Drakengard 3 - I liked the gameplay, story, and music, but it's on my list simply for bad graphics and the most horrific frame rate and screen tearing that I've ever experienced.

I know I am late to the party but resident evil 6,even with coop, was so so terrible. its like there were layers of the worst Mario party controller breaking quick time events preventing you from getting to the less satisfying glitchy interpretation of resident evil 5s combat. I will admit some of the terrible self awareness was funny but the nonsensical story elements and hilariously overlong boss fights quickly make you forget the good. I have only competed lion's campaign and want to continue to see if it can get any worse. Definitely, the worst game I have played in a while.

Oh yeah forgot about these.
I was actually excited to play Crimson Dragon for free... What a shit game.

Spartan Assault is extremely boring as well.

At least Max and Guacamelee were really good (and also free).

Picking a game that I've played this year and not necessarily released in 2014. I will go for Injustice Gods Among Us. No idea why I even bothered trying this game on PS+, I absolutely hate fighting games.

Other than that I'd say GTA V Online PS4 edition(if I can count it as a sperate game).
My interests in online gaming on a console is still very low, so it has a lot to do with that. Rather play on a PC.

Playing that game online, while not having friends who actively play or a fun crew, is the most boring and annoying thing you can imagine.
There is a possibilty that this might change, due to the fact that I joined the Ngaf crew very recently. Haven't tried playing with you guys yet, but hopefully we can very soon.

I wonder how many games in this thread would also be in the "best game you played in 2014" thread. Likely suspects are Shadow of Mordor, Infamous: Second Son, Destiny, The Evil Within, Driveclub and Wolfenstein: The New Order.

I don't think I played any really bad games this year other than mobile stuff. It makes 2014 look like a really good year for gaming when the worst game a lot of people played is still a good game.

Driveclub...can't remember the last time a game just made me flat out angry while playing. It doesn't matter how pretty it looks when you have obnoxious AI who constantly run you off the road. The AI is worse than playing online if that says anything. My idea of fun is not getting through a race to about 92% and then having to start over due to being completely wiped out in an obnoxious way. Game has potential to be great but right now it is falling completely flat for me

Destiny was the only game i've ever returned/traded back. The way that title is being handled, especially for xbox fans is pretty unbearable. Even with raiding and spending a good amount of time cooping with a buddy of mine, i feel like i was having fun despite the game, not because of it. There's better ways to accomplish that.

Korra. Now, I OWN sonic boom and I still say korra is the worst game I've played in 2014 due to my expectations being shot. I had a lot of fun Co oping through the giant crapfest known as sonic boom

Monument Valley on iOS. Guess I got sucked up into the hype for this one, puzzles weren't that challenging and it just got boring after a short while. I can see the appeal of it but it just wasn't for me.

10% problem solving. 90% continuous tapping.

Mobile games don't impress.

Worse game? I don't really play bad games. I will say Second Son based on my expectations.

Every time you transition zones. Which is quite frequently, since the (not huge) main hub inbetween missions itself is split up into several smaller zones.

Really questionable technical design decision to do it this way. It's better on PC since the load times are more acceptable, but still. Destroys any sort of immersion since it prevents the city from feeling like a cohesive whole.

In the main hub area, every 5 feet is almost accurate.
Okay wow. I was being a bit too optimistic about my expectations, but that sounds pretty annoying. I'll have to lower my expectations a bit then.

I liked the first one. thought the wilderness/werewolf sections took way to long. I much preferred the gothic vampire parts.
Sounds pretty good. I look forward to trying this game out. I know people had a problem w framerate, but from watching the comparison video between PS360 I don't think it'll bother me.

EDIT:
Oh, actually now that I think of it.. one of the WORST games I played this year is sadly Lightning Returns. I attempted to play it 3 times and just couldn't get into it. And I'm that 1% that really likes XIII and enjoyed XIII-2. So it was a let down that I can't play LR

Prince Of Persia. Everything about it was great except for the controls - the most important thing in a platformer.

Wolfenstein The New Order

Such a garbage game jeez..

whoa! I loved Wolfenstien besides being the best wolfenstien ever it had everything and it encouraged everything from stealth to tactical to run and gun and duel wielding. Future Nazis were amazingly scary and the game looked great. peoples opinions man. I don't get it. also second son was fun as hell I played the game start to finish kicking ass and not missing a beat it was very fun.

I would have to say out of the games that I have the worst one would have to be one I didn't bother finishing, so lords of the fallen or GTAV....... haha, but then again I was disappointed with watch dogs and Destiny (even though I maxed out my hunter and got my titan and warlock to lvl26-28. so yeah I didn't get Rambo.

For me, it's easily Destiny:

Never bought the game but played the alpha and beta on PS4 and then the beta on XB1.

An absolute snoozefest of a game. It's often praised for having great gunplay, but coming off of Bungie's past work, I didn't see anything special nor anything to write home about. The mission structure was atrocious, the graphics were mediocre for a next-gen title and the world was dead and empty. On top of that, everything felt half-assed and it really felt like an barebones MMO game designed for people who have never played an MMO. Perhaps because I've played MMO's on PC for several years, no addiction kicked in for me. It was simply an utterly empty, dreadful experience for me.

It was one of the few titles to actually make me sleepy when I played it.

I have posted it before, but every game I played that came out in 2014 has been good. BUt I have only played 3 games released this year.

Bound By Flame.

I don't even know what they were attempting with this game. Nothing is consistent except for how extremely underwhelming the game is, at every turn.

OMG, I seriously forgot about this game it was so ridiculous. I did the unthinkable and swapped to easy mode just to "have fun" and it didn't work. for sure that is my pick!!

bound by flame=lame

Dragon Age Inquisition

This is not a game. It's a collecting simulator with nice graphics.

I don't think it's a bad game at all, but I am baffled that it is getting so much love.

The only thing remotely impressive about it are the graphics. Everything else ranges from atrocious to mediocre.

And people talk up all the "content" in the game, when it really isn't any better than Kingdom of Amalur, which everyone shit on for its 100 hundreds of fetchquests. In fact, in some ways it's worse because the battle system is so much worse.

I can't believe the high standards you guys have. Half of the games posted are excellent titles IMHO. I'm guessing people haven't played a lot of games this year, hence the reason behind most peoples choices.

I'll echo the OPs choice of Rambo: The Video Game.
The only reason I played this clusterfuck for more than 30 seconds is because it was so hilariously bad that it had me in stitches.

I may not be a big fan of Angry Joe but his review of the game is perfect.

Maybe people actively avoid bad games? I do a lot of research and end up mostly playing games that are good, so even the ones that I don't like as much are still pretty far up in the pecking order. Why the hell would I want to waste time playing Sonic Boom when there are too many good games to make time for as is?

Tough. Would say Halo: Master Cheif Collection but they seem to be really trying to fix it and it has been fine to play as of late. So I'll go with Destiny. Boring, repetitive, bland game. When I beat it I wasn't even aware. Didn't even feel like I was playing a story. Terrible.

Sonic Boom.

I didn't think anything could overtake sonic 06 as the worst sonic game ever made but its surely doing a darn good attempt trying to.

If ports count, it would be Borderlands 2 on PS Vita.

I don't know why they decided to even release this with how terrible it turned out. It looks like it was downgraded to N64 levels, with so much slowdown and lag that it's almost impossible to accurately shoot enemies if there's more than one on screen. Just a technical failing all around.

Exactly. I really liked Kingdoms of Amalur, hundreds of fetchquests but they were all better than the sidequests in Dragon Age Inquisition. And yeah...the battle system is a joke. I'm avoiding fights just because it's not fun to play.

Ugh, the fights are so annoying. Not just because the battle system sucks, but also because almost every single fight is worthless. You get almost no XP, no decent loot, and it just takes up time fighting annoying sponges.
