Whats the best bittorrent client for XP?

Azureus never worked for me after 2.1.0.4, and even with 2.1.0.4 it became a huge resource hog on my XPS Gen 3 with 2GB of RAM.

Azureus attached to my system like a parasitic hot rodding teenager from dimension x. the fact it speaks the devil's tongue (Java) was why.

BitComet is much better, but it's the first alternative I tried, so whatever.

yeah me too. just turn off the automatic updates. Azureus constantly crashes when it tries to update now so I just turned the feature off. It will be stuck at 2.2.0.0 forever.

does anyone know a way to mask my ip address or hide my downloading activity, make it more stealthy?, im starting to get paranoid.

Thanks for the link Azwethinkweiz, Ive installed it now and its doign wierd things, ill need to read up more on what it does later on.

BitComet is amazing. If you have a blazing computer and can handle the memory hogging, go with Azureus. But BitComet has all the same functionality in a less system hogging package. But it's not as pretty.

I use bittornado as well.

Speaking of torrents, does anyone have a cure for shitty-ass torrent speeds via university dorm connection? It seems my ul is uncapped (~uling 2-3mb/sec) however, my downloads are sent to the crapper (~1-10kb/sec) :(

They're packet shaping is my best guess... but I'm always hopin'.. :(

Just an FYI, if you're gonna download HBO shows(I'm not condoning or anything), you need Peer Guardian 2. Media Sentry floods the tracker with rubbish data and there were times when BitComet was listing 100megs downloaded and 90megs discarded. Peer Guardian blocks those IPs so it's much smoother downloading.

Wow...can't believe no one here uses µTorrent, this thing is so awesome. Its lightweight - less than 100k, uses low cpu and ram, has plenty of features and has a pretty interface.

It's banned at a BT forum I frequent so I don't use it. Apparently it reports stats incorrectly and causes excessive HD thrashing on some systems.

I used Azureus for awhile, switched to BitTornado when Azureus stopped working, and really liked it (I liked controlling which files I wanted to download first and it actually working), but now I'm back to Azureus because it's easier to use. It's nice ot have them all in one window instead of a bunch of windows.

And if I reboot, I don't have to refind all the torrents that I want to download, they're all still in Azureus. With BitTornado (since I don't save the torrent files), I had to refind them...and that's not fun.
