Whats the best bittorrent client for XP?

i just tried bitcomet and didn't like it. Azureus's interface is by far the best I've seen in a BT client. Much easier to use.

and yeah, the prioritising works fine. I'm doing it right now in fact.

edit: and as for it being a memory hog, the azureus process is actually pretty small at just over 2000K. It's the javaw.exe process which hogs all the memory at 46000K, which is only half of what Firefox is currently using up right now. With 1GB of RAM I'm not all that concerned by the amount of memory used by Azureus.

Kinda of topic but in azerus im having a Nat problem and to fix it I went here http://azureus.aelitis.com/wiki/index.php/NAT_problem

It says make a static ip but when i get up to network properties and then go to the properties of my connection there is no advanced tab so im stuck. Anyway around this? And how does Nat effect your downloads does it make them slower?

well it means that you are not as connectable, which will result in not as many people connecting to you and you to them I believe. you keep the yellow face forever as well and I notice my downloads were slower. to fix it you just need to forward a port on your router. have you done that?

It's banned at a BT forum I frequent so I don't use it. Apparently it reports stats incorrectly and causes excessive HD thrashing on some systems.
All that was fixed in the lates version, news verson are coming out frequently.

I'll put in another vote for Azureus. Ive never had any problems with it, running on a P4 384 mb machine running safepeer and peerguardian2 (call me paranoid).

Also, the band Harvey Danger released their new album for download via torrent or on their website as a big f--- you to the RIAA. I downloaded it and seeded it last night but havent had a chance to listen to it. Here is the link for the torrent from their website:

What are the advantages to using these peerguardian2 and safepeer programs? What do they do? And are they resource intensive?

Safepeer and Peerguardian2 load block lists of known or suspected RIAA and MPAA antiP2P IP's (mediasentry, overpeer, etc). Its questionable how well it works as it will never 100% effective, but i figure its better than nothing. I find peerguardian2 does a great job of blocking spyware while just surfing. It has three main lists, spyware, p2p, government and educational. i download alot of live concerts from bittorrent ( http://bt.etree.org/ ) which are supposedly legal, but i dont want the RIAA snooping in my business. Both programs run in the background and i dont even notice they are running on my older machine (p4 1.4 384mb ram).

When i first started with bittorrent i didnt forward the ports on my dsl modem and was only getting speeds of 20-50k, but after forwarding i get 250+ depending on the swarm speed.

Here is a good resource for setting up your router/modem:

http://www.portforward.com/

I never set up a static IP, just used ipconfig /all at a command prompt to find my local IP and went from there.

i have to admit, utorrent is pretty fucking awesome. it won't completely displace Bitspirit for me, but for a small little .exe file it's very fast, stable and has a killer interface.

I'm pretty used to BitTornado so its all I use. Its really easy on resources (on my 450mHz machine) and never ever crashed on me.
