What's the best budget video card? (please help)

I am looking to spend no more than $60 on a budget video card.

My 9800 Pro is a good card for HL2 and UT2004, but I don't really have the time to be playing PC games anymore. Because of this, I'd like to only use my 9800 Pro on the rare occassion that I will be playing games for an extended period of time... at all other times I'd like to be using something that is QUIET -- meaning, NO FAN. If it has DVI and 2D gamma it's all good.

I just want the best "bang for my buck" I guess. I'm looking at the GeForceFX 5200
Radeon 9550 chipsets. It seems the 9550 has better 3D performance than the 5200 (even the models that only use 64-bit memory, surprisingly enough)... but the 5200 has better Linux compatibility, and when I have more time I'd like to get familiar with how to use Linux. Anyone that's tried using Linux with an ATI card knows that the drivers suck ass.

So what would you pick, or do you have another suggestion? Anyone here use these cards?

Why not just replace the fan/heatsink on your current card? There are plenty of great replacements, whether it be quieter fan or completely fanless.

I actually have a geForce FX5200...I guess the only real thing I can say about it is it gets. My system runs quite smoothly with it, and since games don't run on it all that well (my HL2 copy is now sitting in a corner weeping), it put me on track to do my work, hehe.

All in all, its good so long as you don't want to try and do something graphically intensive.

The 9550 seems to be the best value/performance one out there for really shitty cards. :lol
The 5200 tanks in every freaking benchmark I've seen. Since the 9550 is about the same price, it only makes sense.

I know you can make your 9800 Pro fanless, but I'm too afraid that I'll fuck up the installation of it and burn out my core.

There is a deal for a dual DVI 6600GT that comes with adapters to convert the signal to agp I assume. I was wondering if anyone knew if there any negatives to doing that.

Do you mean ADC? VGA?

It's possible that you will end up screwing something up swapping video cards more than replacing the fan on your 9800pro.

So c'mon, be a man, do the right thing. ;)

It's not that hard.

I was just goading you into just changing your fan instead of swapping the vid card out.

But by all means, go for the 6600GT if you are still not going to change the fan.
