What's the best way to fix a disc that is scratched up?

Stele

Holds a little red book
My copy of Burnout 3 freezes at a menu in the World Tour mode everytime I go there. It was scratched up because I often left it one of those cases where the disc was able to spin inside the case. The only option I'm familiar with is Game Doctor, but that apparently just shaves off a layer off the CD. Anybody got any ideas?

Game doctor works nice for me. I have had no problems with discs that I have fixed with the game doctor.

Really? Wow... I bought a game doctor to fix one of my FF9 discs, and it totally ruined the disc. I did everything I was supposed to, and it's still just screwed up. Bah.

I actually just clicked on this thread to say NOT to get a game doctor.

Armor All works really well. Just spray it on, then wipe it off in a circular motion with a tissue (make sure it's not one of those aloe ones or anything). We used this at a record store I worked at. It works wonders.

If car wax doesn't work, boil it, but don't boil it untill it's your last resort.

I've never heard of this. Are you pulling the guy's proverbial leg? I'd assume that boiling would simply warp and destory the plastic... is this one of those urban legends, or are you intentionally misleading him?

Surprisingly it doesn't warp or destroy the plastic, no physical change occurs to the disc at all... Now whether it fixes the disc or not I'm not sure, it worked for me with one or two CDs, but didn't after that, and I haven't bothered with it since... I got a Skip Dr. (Game Doctor) but it didn't completely fix the only DVD I tried it on, I guess I have to use it a few more times on it cause the scratches are pretty deep.
