What's the craziest toy you've seen based on a licensed character?

I was going through a toy catalogue, and I'm seeing a lot of Non-Begins Batman products being sold. I then saw this:

:lol :lol :lol

I've seen some posts here from workers for Mattell and such saying they've made some pretty dismal Action Figures with "new ultra mega armor with projectiles!". Here's your chance to vent! What's the worst and just plain stupid toys you've seen?

Heck, I work at a store called Movie-Manics. and the amount of exact same Star Wars figures with Comm-Tech, Normal, and Hologram packaging is just rediculous!

So succesful they made another version with extender for the "lower back" Offically licensed by Sanrio its just one of those strange things. Kind of like the barbie underroo's with the two holes in them for girls.

I have a bunch of crazy star wars fuck ups from Kenner. They were either test packages or very limted edition for comicons. Some were just insane and one is worth some crazy money cause i was smart and got it signed by lucas and mark hamil together at once with picture.

Not so much that the toy itself is crazy...but what kid wants to play with a Bob the Goon action figure? Think, KENNER, Think!

Then again, its not like they had a lot to work from. What else could they have done besides various different Batmans and The Joker?

Commissioner Gordon? District Attorney Harvey Dent(
StarWarsLandoCalrissian.jpg
) ? Alexander Knox? Vicki Vale? Lt. Eckhardt with doughnut-scrumpin'-Action? That thug who knew kung-fu near the end of the movie? Carl Grissom in bath robe and removable bullet wounds? Joker's dead girlfriend(Alicia) with removable face plate? Alfred Pennyworth with tea-serving action?

I guess they could have done a Jack Napier action figure where his face changes color if you dip him in water. That would have been cool.

Old, but worth repeating...

Harry Potter Broomstick: Bad Vibrations?
By Martha W. Kleder

Mattel is marketing a toy broomstick in its Harry Potter line that is raising eyebrows.

The Harry Potter Nimbus 2000, for sale since October of 2001, is marketed to 8—to 12-year-old children. A toy replica of the broomstick Harry Potter uses in the movie Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, the Nimbus 2000 is, according to at least one mother, providing a little too much stimulation.

Quoting from the editorial review posted on the Amazon.com Web site, “Kids can now ‘fly’ a Nimbus 2000 broomstick just like member of their favorite Quidditch team.”

“The Nimbus 2000 features a grooved stick and handle for easy riding. Enhancing the excitement are the vibrating effects and magical swooping and whooshing sounds the broom makes when on. Sounds can also be activated when the switch is set in standby mode. Requires three AA batteries (included),” reviewer Larry White adds.

A check of other online toy stores shows that description to be accurate.

Sarah Rosales, Vice President of Public Relations for Mattel's Entertainment Division said, “Our intent in creating the Nimbus 2000 Flying Broomstick was to bring the magic of the fictional ”Harry Potter“ tale to life for children. The toy was created to mimic the effect of flying and uses batteries to produce swooshing sound effects.”

“At Mattel, the well-being of children is always our top priority.”

Rosales added that Mattel “does not consider the toy inappropriate” adding that they “apologize that some parents may consider it to be [inappropriate], but that was not the company's intention.”

Customer reviews of the toy are mixed. A reviewer identified as “A toy enthusiast from New Jersey” described her shock when she purchased the toy for her daughter last Christmas.

“It wasn’t until after she opened her gift and started playing with it that I realized that the toy may offer a more than sensational experience. The broomstick has cute sound effects and ***VIBRATES*** when they put it between their legs to fly,” she wrote on December 26, 2001.

“Come on — what were the creators of this toy thinking? She’ll keep playing with the Nimbus 2000, but with the batteries removed,” she added.

Other reviewers were apparently not as quick on the uptake. “Ashley” from Texas is one who found nothing unusual with the toy.

“My 12-year-old daughter is a big Harry Potter fan, and loved the part with the Nimbus 2000, so I decided to buy her this toy,” Ashley wrote on June 11, 2002. “Even my daughter’s friends enjoy playing with this fun toy. I was surprised at how long they can just sit in her room and play with this magic broomstick!!”

Other reviewers seemed to be simply clueless. “Poola13” from Ohio noted how popular the toy was with his/her 12-year-old daughter and her friends. Poola13 added in the June 11, 2002, review that, “they play for hours in her bedroom with this great toy. They really seem to like the special effects it offers (the sound effects and vibrating). My oldest daughter (17) really likes it too!”

Now, given the growing attention this toy is receiving on various Internet message boards, that last message is likely a tongue-in-cheek posting, however the first question remains true, “What WERE the creators of this toy thinking?”

The package clearly says "Toy Biz" you nut! They probably felt the need to make a second villain figure, and Lt. Eckhardt dies too early in the film.

Besides, there is already a William Hootkins action figure:

I know it's star wars but damn they make figures of the most obscure characters.

Whoa, you're right.

I guess I was so used to Kenner making the Batman toys, that I forgot Toy Biz actually made the first round of Batman movie figures.

What program do you use to photoshop a picture?

Yeah, but how did they write "EIGHT INFO-PACKED PAGES" on Porkings?

And the weirdest licensed toy I've seen has to be the goddamned Super Power Desk, a.. super powered Dragonball Z desk.

What? Get out of here! Was it from the Toy Biz toy line? Or the second series(Kenner's toy line?)

I swear I had every figure from that era, and I recall no face-changing Joker!

Edit: Here's the two Joker figures I had:

batknockjokc.jpg

They didn't make another Joker figure until the Animated Series toy-line came out.

Yeah, I had some of those turtles toys.

I had the one where one of them has a bunch of sports stuff (basketball, football) and his arm throws it. The rappin' one...and one more, can't remember.

Smells faintly of rancid stilton.

come on man fighting crime does not pay well, so the turtles had to get other jobs in their free time....

And on topic...I would say the New Kids on the Block stuff, they had everything marbles, blankets...dolls

toybizjokercrop.jpg

That one? Nope. That'd be the very first movie figure made by Toy Biz(Notice that its actually just a repackaged DC Powers figure and looks nothing like Jack Nicholson). I think it had a pretty cool feature where you attatch a pump to his back, and the flower on his jacket could squirt water.

And speaking of the old Batman toyline, they had the absolute BEST Batmobile ever made. Nowadays, toy companies try to make toys that 'shoot things' safe for kids. Those old Batmobiles came with really cool missiles that could shoot FAR across the room. Newer Batmobiles are lucky if you can get the missile to shoot even a foot.

Ah well. Guess we can't have any kids choking on small objects or shooting their little sister's eye out with an official Kenner Batman the Movie Batmobile ™ Action Vehicle with "Heat-seeking Missile".

:lol :lol That's just wrong.

Ok, I'm not really sure about it, but when I was a kid I could almost swear I had action figures of a buff, shirtless Steve Martin and Dan Ackroyd. I'm not 100% sure about Dan, but I definitely remember that being a Steve Martin toy. Even my dad noticed and was like, "WTF, is that Steve Martin?". To this day I wonder if it was a funny coincidence or some rare and bizarre toy deal.

You can get "The Thing" hands AND feet now! :lol :lol

I also remember some fucked up Ninja Turtle toys. Pizza flingers or something? Their eyes were popping out of their heads, and looked like they were designed by someone on some week long drug trip.

Not crazy like most of the others, but the fact they put this bigass accessory and made him a bit larger in scale than he should be (based off of a prior mold) in a pretty minimalistic line makes him crazy. :D

There was indeed a pizza flinging TMNT toy...

There was also a modified version of that toy, but it was now a "sewer lid launcher."

Playmates also reused that mold to create Chicken Run's Pie Tosser...

B00004TCXT.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

I think I've seen the company reuse that same mold one or two more times, but I can't remember the specific toy. Anyone who knows, say something. It'd be interesting to have a complete list of these nearly identical toys.

i had that Bob the Goon toy. I still remember it. We went to go buy action figures and my brother got Batman but they were all out of Jokers so i got Bob the fucking Goon. My older brother ALWAYS got the cool, main character whenever we bought action figures. Liono, Optimus Prime, He-Man...:(
