I know people had problems when it originally was released. Did MS fix it or should I stay away, still? I don't even remember what the big deal against it was. I kinda forgot about it and now Automatic Update is reminding me.

I'm up to date on my patches, no problems here.

People who have problems need to use braille embedded PCs, for they are blind and uh, special enough to not use a regular PC.

If you can get it installed and successfully reboot, you're fine. Installed spyware may prevent this.

I uninstalled it because it sucks period.

?

Microsoft hasn't made any corrections to SP2 (that I know of). It's the same code you would have downloaded the day it was released. Any problems people had were 3rd party software related. You will need to check to see if you had any applications that would be affected by it and update those.

Otherwise it's very stable, and a good upgrade.

I've had no problems with it whatsoever. The only problem I had was before Grisoft updated their anti-virus software to report its status to the SP2 security monitor I had to disable that so Windows wouldn't keep prompting me about not having an anti-virus program installed.

If my last Spyware check had nothing present, then should I worry? I might install SP2 tonight then, after moving any essential files to my external HD first. :)

Installing SP2 on a P4 mobo can be lots of non-fun, as I found out a few months ago. Apparently, some mobo bios are not quite up to MS and Intel qualifications or something when it comes to P4's and Celeron D's, which (in my case) can cause the PC to simply never boot into Windows after installing SP2. I later gleefully found out that I had to install this little patch BEFORE INSTALLING SP2, or else update my bios. Negative yay. But SP2 has been fine for me since then.

i don't even notice that it's there, which i suppose is a good thing.

Yeah, just installed it. Everything is the same. It's still telling my virus scanner needs to be updated, which I already know about.

No problems with it except for the fact that my bluetooth dongle isn't fuctioning properly ever since I installed it.

XP SP2 + automatic updates = never having to use IE again (and if I do, most of the known security problems in IE6 don't affect XPSP2).

My PC came with SP2 already installed, I've had no software problem as far as I can tell. Old software works fine.

The only thing it might have affected is start-up, I heard SP2 makes the start-up time longer? I cant measure it with this computer since it came with SP2 installed, perhaps someone else can comment? Does SP2 make the PC slower on start-up, or is that just a myth?

Couldn't install it at first due to Deamon Tools (needed to uninstall it first) Installed SP2, put DT back on. And never had a problem since

I had it installed on my machine (dl'd around the time it was released) and haven't re-installed on my new HD due to the changes it made to tcp/ip connections. I can't explain exactly how it worked (sorry not a techhead) but in a real world situation it was making downloading off of irc and bittorrent a pain (both of which are godsends if you watch fansubs). You couldn't download files concurrently off of xdcc bots without a couple minute pause, it would refuse to make new connections w/out the pause. Also it made connecting to multiple seeds and peers in BT impossible since it was limiting connections. I know for a fact that it was something in SP2 because since i went back to a clean install with sp1 + new updates only i'm back to how i was before. Wish i could give a more technical explanation but that's the best i can do. Sure this doesn't affect many but for those that it does it's a pretty big deal :)

Initially, I installed SP2 as a patch to my existing SP1 installation of Windows XP. While the system wasn't exactly unstable, my boot time increased substancially and alot of things just felt sluggish. Since then, I slipstream updated my XP cd with SP2, did a fresh install, and it's been working great.

I re-formatted my computer over the weekend cause I hadn't cleaned it up in a long time. Installed Windows and Sp2 no problems. Did it on 2 different computers (main computer and a file server) Don't know what all the problems that people were talking about were.
