What's the right definition of a set top box? Are PS3/Xenon?

I'm doing a marketing research study for my marketing class. I decided on tackling devices similar to Media Center PCs, but are Media Center PCs defined as set top boxes?

If the Xenon and PS3 hold digital content such as photos, videos, and music...are they considered set top boxes aswell?

What term SHOULD I be using if they're not set-top boxes?

I suppose. (not thinking clearly, just woke up, no coffee yet)

PS3 = game console with probably a few set-top box featyres

PS3 Home Server (mentioned by Sony itself) = likely a set-top box

Xenon ver 1 = game console with a few set-top box features

(?) Xenon ver 2 = with harddrive and more set-top box features

(?) Xenon ver 3 = 'Xbox Next PC' = PC / console / set-top box

If you're going by the 1990s "next big thing" definition, a modded Xbox with Xbox Media Center is a set-top-box. ;)

The whole concept is pretty nebulous; technically, it could probably be any device that accepts some signal and converts it to audio and video for a television.

What are prime examples of a set top box? A Tivo? Or a cable box?

Maybe I should define set top box as any device delivering multimedia content to a TV, so I could include the PS3 and Xenon.
