I stick to the "rock" setting, but sometimes I stray from it and find that songs sound totally different! Maybe I shouldn't use an equalizer setting at all. What's your take?

I personally don't like to use EQs, just because I don't wanna modify the original feeling of the song. That said, I do occasionally throw on the bass booster if I'm feeling like A HOLLABACK GIRL.

Default. i've toyed with the EQ every now and then since Winamp 1.6, but i listen to far too many styles of music for it to be effective.

Edit: "Effective" is the wrong word. It's definitely "effective" just not "useful" for me.

I try to control the bass and fix the deficiencies of my speakers, so I set my bass levels lower, the mids higher, and the highs just a bit higher than the mids.

I think flat is the way to go.

Disco smile for Electronic music...but other than that, you gotta stick with flat.

i use custom...high bass and treble and meidum mid-rage. flat or turned off sounds totally lame by the way. i dont think the songs were originally meant to be listened to that way.

Club in WinAmp, and some EAX profiles based on which speakers I use and how loud I put them (Usually Heavy Metal)

using a software EQ?? what?! are you crazy?

Anyone who is remotely into music will have a 20 band EQ in between the receiver and computer.

I never use winamp so this is a really stupid question, but how do you get it to do that media library thing you've got going on?

Edit - haha turns out I had the lite version installed. Winamp just got more useful for me.

Using the EQ basically distorts the sound. If you're using a decent stereo (like my 2x80W Aiwa) with its own bass/treble functions, it's better to disable it and rely on your stereo.
