I've only seen one amv I've ever liked in my whole life, I was also like 14. It was enter sandman mixed with end of evangelion and that shit was awesome.
Other than that they all suck.
Edit: VVV Other than joke ones. Amv hell is still hilarious, and I don't know the sources for like 90% of it.

Yeah hehe those are fun. There was an Avatar the Last Air Bender AMV a couple years ago I lost and found again now I can't find it. It was Meant to Live by Switchfoot. There a ton of different versions out now, but the original that started on like Google Video I can not find. it begins and ends with some Monologue from Ang. Like at the end is the scene after he rescued Zuko and they are in the forest.

Yes. Plenty of fights animated by Yutaka Nakamura -- who is arguably the best action animator ever.
Lots of other good animators too, but he's the cream of the crop. Pretty much every fight is spectacular in general.
