When did Wireless controllers become reliable?

Other than the wavebird(never tried it) have their been any reliable wireless controllers?

Im not a tech wiz I just remember all the wireless controllers i have tried having some lag problems.

For fighting and FPS games i would hate it if there was even a split second of lag between button presses.

For those who have tried the xbox360 wireless controller how does it play?

What controller for the 360 would you guys get?

Released after Wavebird, but IMO one of the greatest controllers ever

EDIT: Also, I would get the wireless x360 controllers. I highly doubt lag will be an issue (though I have not used them so I can't say for sure)

basically wavebird, was the begining of wireless controller reliablity. since then that is all i use for my cube, and no lag what so ever.

Theres no lag on the Wavebird unless someone is on the phone next to you. Not a good thing. However, since theres few interferences at home, its what I use. Huzzah!

Wireless console gaming wasn't reliable before the Wavebird, IMHO.

yep which is why i would like to know how the 360 wireless controller is suppose to work? I mean i am getting one with my non tard pack, i just want to know if i should get a second wired controller or get wireless.

It would be nice to have to deal with wires but not at the price of lag.

Truth.

If the Gamecube didn't suck, I would be as bold as to say the Wavebird is the best controller ever made. There is absolutely NO lag whatsoever.

And trust me, all three consoles next gen would not make their controllers wireless as a standard unless they were 100% perfect. No worries.

Lol! That's true, the GameCube does suck. I think it's only for preschoolers, but that's just my opinion.

I haven't used a wireless gamepad, but I have been using wireless mice to play online PC games for years without any problems. I have even played online games with a wireless mouse over a wireless internet connection without any problems.

Wireless technology is much better than it was just a few years ago. I think the next-gen wireless gamepads will work just fine.

I have this logitech one, the batteries run out fast and it doesnt work well at all

I'm not a huge fan of the Xbox Logitech Controller, as the design is a little weak and my a button sticks a little. Batteries do run out fast, but I just turn off rumble and they last much, much longer. I still use it regularly though as it's hard to go back to wires once you've used wireless (especially in a larger room)

I will reitierate the the PS2 Logitech is worth every penny and is absolutely fantastic

I dont find that my batteries run out fast with my xbox logitech. Im a casual gamer, I dont play everday for 10 hours at a time so I guess Im not an accurate judge.

Judging by that one Kameo video, they're still not. Utter silence and "there we are.." and one comment "shows you that it's all real time.." :lol But yeah, I think the technology has to be there by now. It'll work fine I'm sure. Only thing I am not excited about is batteries. The idea of your controller only having a limited ammount of play before you need new batteries or to recharge em has never crossed my mind and not something I want to think about in the future. In that respect, wires on the floor are a nearly non-existent bother imo. But if they want to move forward..

Kind of off topic, but how does a console lacking in games make it's controller not being the best?

Yes, because Microsoft didn't make a mistake with the Duke or anything. Nintendo certainly didn't make a mistake with the Z button.

Yeah seriously, it's not like the manufacturers are using infrared or something, it's radio frequency, the same thing that is used in cordless phones (which have no lag btw)

It's not surprising that the had a problem during the Kameo demo since there was sure to be a lot of interference there. Ever watch an 802.11b signal strength drop dramatically in a house when someone starts the microwave?

Does anyone think there will be any differences between the PS3 wireless controller and the 360 wireless controller, considering the PS3 uses Bluetooth while the 360 uses RF?

Also, is the Rev controller Bluetooth or RF? (hopes for Bluetooth)

The Logitech PS2 and Xbox controllers stomp all over the Wavebird. They have no power switches, no stupid "channel" dials, and great vibration. I use rechargeable 2700mah's in them and they go for over a month. I highly recommend both.

Bluetooth.

so what would you guys do for your second 360 controller? wired? Wireless?

I would definitely take wireless over wired. The only negative thing about wireless right now is the batteries.

They may stomp over the wavebird in features, but regarding battery life, I still haven't changed my batteries on my wavebird since January.

Wow, just when I thought something couldn't be trolled. :lol

Just wanted to add to the others that have said....

Logitech PS2 Wireless controller = must buy. Awesome controller.

Logitech XBox Wireless controller = pass. Buttons aren't sensitive enough...buttons stick...d-pad sucks...doesn't work for Live unless you fork out a bunch of extra money...batteries run out real quick...etc...

edit: Just wanted to be clear that I'm not saying the Wavebird sucks. The Wavebird is civilization!

The Wavebird is the hot shit. I like the fact that i can turn it off. I like the fact that i have control over what frequency it is on.

And I love the fact that it is the same build as the regular controller.

Because you probably haven't played the GCN since RE4. (j/k) :lol

If you own a PS2 and do not buy the Logitech wireless pad, you fail as a PS2 owner. It's a fucking AWESOME controller.

Hey buddy, at least I didn't buy Everquest Online Adventures. Or FFXI, for that matter.

Yea i would get wired controllers just to not have deal with batteries. I plan on getting 4 so i am definately not gonna waste money on 4 charge and play kits. Will i need 4 play and charge kits?

i change my wavebird frequency every time i change batteries just as a way to see how often ive had to replace them. I got Wavebird the first week it was released and according to my current frequency im on my 8th pair of battiers.

June 2002- September 2005 = 39 months and i recently replaced batteries so the current pair will last me into 2006.

Basically the battery life is superb.

No, since only two usb ports are on the front of the system with one on the back. And what are the chances of all four needing charging at the same time?

*ahem* Excuse me, but no logical reasoning in this thread please. <3

P.S. I really like the Gamecube.

I love the Logitech PS2 pad, but my square and x buttons have a tendency to stay depressed now and again, pretty much making any gaming experience reliant on reaction time and relentless tapping irrevelevant. I resort to the Dual Shock with DMC3, but it's all good for DDS.

The only good wireless controller currently available is the Wavebird. Don't like Logictech's controllers; they just don't feel the same as the originals and aren't as responsive. I don't think we're going to see any problems with the wireless controllers for the upcoming systems, or these companies wouldn't be releasing them with wireless pads bundled in. :)

It will be fun seeing "I got my XBox 360 and the pad doesn't work/the sensor is busted!!" threads though.

sorry for bumping this old thread but i didnt wanna make another one:

I just have one last question.

I am thinking about getting 4 wireless controllers but I dont wanna have to deal with replacing batteries all the time, so What do i need to buy? rechargable battery packs? play and charge kits?
