If Revolution comes out before Fall '06 I'll be amazed myself.

You really can't do that with a video game system. It's been attempted and it does not work.StRaNgE said:i'm hoping they do like Apple does.
Show it at E3 and have it in the public hands the next week.

I don't know how much of a benefit there really is to launching in the summer, especially in the US. Certainly in Japan that would be an opportune launch window. Here, fall is fine -- so I assume that's what we'll see.
Because -- even if they were able to have an adequate supply of consoles to fill the demands of their retail partners, which I doubt they could with a stealth launch -- they'd miss out on the opportunity to generate a lot of hype. There needs to be a massive informational campaign to get people excited about the system and informed about what it can do. This gets a lot of preorder programs and launch lines, which are excellent publicity and generate big first-day sales that you can brag about.sp0rsk said:I dunno, I think launching it online first would nto be a bad idea. The people who will be early adopters are the hardcore nintendo fans anyway. Nintendo says they arent in a race with sony and microsoft anymore so why play by their rules and go by their schedules? so they release a system in summer, so they release it online. It's a new product they dont have to worry about the pressures of a follow up like the 360 or ps3
Only except that it doesn't.JoDark said:The DS did break this trend a bit as US/Japan were basically the same time, but the software still lags behind by crazy amounts of time.

Why miss out on all that?
I suppose. I don't see any real indication that they're going to do that, though.sp0rsk said:Ah but if they launched online, they wouldnt have to deal with retailers and the hype would be generated by the early adopters. Its the same way the ipod started out.
Well, there's not really indication of anything from Nintendo right now. I don't think it will happen though, because if the mainstream catches wind they are going to want to get it at Best Buy, not online.Kobun Heat said:I suppose. Nintendo has never, ever launched a console on time. Ever. I know they're trying to at least tie Sony to the market, but I don't believe they'll make it. Their track record is 0 for 3 at getting to market the same year as the competition (Genesis, Saturn/PS, PS2).
:lol Lincoln looks pissed.icecap said:Are you trying to say that nintendo has been working on a time machine?

well, yeah, but it would be a good move imoKobun Heat said:I suppose. I don't see any real indication that they're going to do that, though.

AtomicShroom said:I don't recall GameCube ever getting delayed. Same for GBA or DS. Nintendo really had troubles with delays in the N64 days, but ever since the GameCube came out, no one has been complaining much. Zelda TP being the only exception.

Polari said:I don't know if you can go by history on this one. Sony are looking shaky this time, I'm betting they'll be very late in 2006, unfortunately.
On the other hand, I'm guessing Nintendo are way further ahead than they're letting on. I suspect the hardware is finalised, and I wouldn't be surprised if their own games (including Mario) are much further along than most people think. Super Smash Bros. has just started it's cycle, sure, but to take that as indication of where their other projects are would be foolish.
Another important point people are forgetting is that with the Revolution, Nintendo already have a starting point in their Gamecube titles. I wouldn't be surprised if they're using Melee as a base on Smash Bros. and I imagine Square Enix will be doing the same with Crystal Chronicles.

PSP launched quite later in the US. For DS, though, I think it made sense. Looking at the holiday sales periods, the big time for the US is pretty much Thanksgiving-Christmas. Looking at Japanese weekly charts, it's more like early December-early January. So if it's going to launch in one territory just a few weeks sooner, it makes more sense to do so in the US to catch the maximum amount of holiday sales time in both regions.Tyrone Slothrop said:i dunno, i think they've been planning a worldwide release. even if so, it may come out in the US first, which seems to be the trend now for some odd reason (see DS and PSP launch)
I think we know way too little to say what could be ready by the end of next year. I couldn't have told you about Pikmin in late 2000.Zerodoppler said:If they move Kirby to the platoform and Make quick sequels to Wario Ware and that Legend of Quiz game they could push it out early. A quick port of Mario Sunshine with wand controls could fill out the launch as well. As for other games, I don't think anything will be ready for 2006.
AT LEAST 4-6? Like the N64's 3, GBA's 3, GCN's 2, and DS's -0.5?JoDark said:Based on every Nintendo launch ever.... Japan,,, AT LEAST 4-6 months later, the US.
And if we knew what their internal plans were, we'd know what they'll miss. But obviously they do eventually make their planned dates, or we'd still be waiting on NES.Leondexter said:Nintendo has never, ever launched a console on time. Ever.
