When EGM was in Chicago...

Was it actually in Oak Brook - on Jorie Blvd? Did I see Sewart in the Funcoland on Roosevelt in 1998? Just asking.

Yep Oak Brook/Lombardish. I remember accidently turning around in the Ziff Davis parking lot one afternoon.

Actually, I know I saw Sewart at Best Buy on Butterfield in late 1999. I forget what game it was now, but I know he grabbed the last copy of the same game I wanted 2 secs before I spotted it. :lol F-ing Sewart.

I used to run into them trying to sell review roms at the video game swap show that went on every weekend in lombard.

i saw brandon justice from ign dreamcast in a gamestop once. he was buying a videogame. true story.

That's bullshit! Bullshit?

Tell me more.

What can I add?

Lombard -- true
Oak Brook -- true
Sewart running around all the time trying to nab last copies of games right before people who really wanted them got to them -- true

I hardly ever shopped at Funcoland, so you prolly didn't see me there. When I was in Chicago, I bought most of my games from the local Best Buy or the EB in the Lombard Mall.

johntv is awesome. hey, I just bought a penthouse in the new Trump Chicago buildling but I'm only going to be there 4 months a year. If you ever visit July-Feb its yours, free of charge. Opens April 2006.

Yeah, I didn't get to IL until late 99. But Best Buy and Funcoland were both regular stops on my game shopping trips, so you probably saw me there.

You may have also seen CJ urinating in the alley behind Best Buy the night before the PlayStation 2 was released....just sayin'.

There was this weekly (sometimes monthly) swap meet thrown by this guy who had an independent game/computer store in lombard... I forget what it was called. Anyways, he would rent out a school gym and people could buy table space for $10 or $15 for the day and just throw all their games down on the tbale and sell them. The EMG guys were always there with japanese Turbo games, genesis and snes roms, and other crap. One EGM guy had this SNES copy system where you could copy games to floppy he was trying to offload. I always would go to try and find rare or japanese turbo stuff since this was before the days when import shops hit the chicago market in force (they have since retreated :lol )... The only import shop at the time was in the city of Chicago proper, and he would come out to the show every month saving me a trip.

By the way... If i had to guess at a time frame for this, I would think it was around 95ish. Back when Ed was around at EGM.

And I do that every time I'm back there visiting family.

Cool. Reading that...my perceptions of classic EGM change yet again. Say what you will about the quality of the old EGM, it was more fun to read.

This sounds highly illegal. Maybe the reason we don't hear from Martin Alessi so much anymore is because he was sent to jail for trafficing roms?

I used to work in Oak Brook back when EGM was in Lombard. I hit all those shops at lunch (plus Babbages at Oakbrook Terrace). I never ran into anybody, though.

Wow, that dates back to the Intelligent Gamer days, doesn't it?

I saw JohnTV...'cept it wasn't in Chicago. It was Orlando. He was drunk and making fun of NFL QB Kerry Collins - to his face.
