My current specs are...

---------------------------------------
P4 2.4GHz 533FSB
512MB of DDR333
GeForceFX 5200 128MB
NEC FE991SB 19" monitor
60Gig Western Digital HDD
4x AGP slot
WindowsXP Home
---------------------------------------

I don't want to put any more money into this computer(that includes a better videocard!) unless it's for repairs. I'm willing to wait a year or a little more to play HL2/DOOM3 on a beefy system instead of just playing it now and lowering all the settings.

The problem is I don't know when I should build a new system. What should I wait for? DirectX10? The next WindowsOS? For the Pentium5s? What?

BTW, any idea when all of those things are gonna hit?

How do you manage to have that setup with a puny 60GB drive? i've got half the processor and just shy of 300GB of hard drive space. It's almost not enough.

Anyway.

Yeah id also appriciate an answer to this question, im tempted to buy this set up:

Cooler Master CAC-T05-UW ATX Mid Tower Case
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Retail
MSI K8T Neo-FSR
RAM 512 mb PC3200 DDR
Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 (ST380011A) 80 GB Hard Drive
Leadtek WinFast GeForce 6600GT 128MB DDR3 TV-Out/DVI (AGP) - Retail (GX-050-LT)

In a couple of weeks when i get paid, not sure if i should hold back for a bit though.

Easy. Any program I don't use frequently, I uninstall. Morrowind and all it's expansions take up gigs. I'll play the game for maybe 2 months, then when I lose interest, I uninstall it. Then like 4 month later, I get the craving for playing it. Then I play it for two months, then uninstall it again. The same goes for all my games except stuff like NetHack, DOOM, StarCraft because they don't take up a lot of space.
As for MP3s, those can take up a lot of space really fast. I just keep certain selections on CD-Rs when I'm not in the mood for listening to them.

I bought this HDD back in Jan of 2003, OEM for $51, and I've had no problems with it. Not a bad sector or corrupt data yet. :D

I had nice MAME setup but that took up like... 20gigs. I got rid of it and decided that when I build a new computer, I'll probably get a cube shapped case (something like a http://www.mountainmods.com case ) and MAME will have it's own separate HDD. =)

Why the fuck do most people only get 512gig of ram? It blows my mind.

LoL. 512MB is enough for WindowsXP and games IMO. Although, you'll most definitely get better performance out of anything higher. It's just at the time I built this comp, 1gig of DDR333 would of cost me like... nearly $400.

This time around I'll go with a 1gig DDR2 Dual Channel kit. I don't even want to know how much that would cost that this moment.
