New York Times Best Movies of the 21st Century (as of 2025)

I will never understand Black Panther's such high rating. It didn't deserved an Oscar, it is certainly not the Top100 movies of this century.

Everything everywhere all at once also in not Top100 material.

Also no Birdman? My favourite movie. Not even mentioned.

you know why wrt Black Panther

Not a great list but at least Yi Yi was there

Overall feels like the list was made by completely different people and then shuffled together randomly

No Hirokazu Koreada or am I just missing his films? That guy carried one of the world's biggest film industry almost single-handedly. Nobody Knows is amazing.

Not a single pure horror movie on the list ?? lmfao??? (sorry but Get Out is not a horror, as good as it is)

This clown clearly hasn't watched a wide range of films.

There have been some too tier horror flicks released in the last 25 years, in no particular order;

- Hereditary
- The Witch
- Midsommar
- Train to Busan
- Talk to me

almost all of these are better than at least half of that list

From the other thread on this, here's my ballot in, no particular order.

What would you guys have in yours?

I can't be arsed to put them in order. My top ten would be:

Downfall (2004)
Arrival (2016)
Children of Men (2006)
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004)
Pan's Labyrinth (2006)
Fellowship of the Ring (2001)
There Will Be Blood (2008)
Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)
The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)
Zatōichi (2003)

Parasite is a good movie, but it falls apart once you watch it more than once. It becomes cartoonish towards the end. And the last 10 minutes were totally unnecessary.

Why do people still fall to those progressive list war bait?

Is as clear as day they do that on bad faith.

I could be wrong as I was booted from reading the article on their site after like 15 seconds because they want my money, HAHA, NO, but it seems like this was a ballot from about 500 filmmakers. So it's not just the opinion of a single article writer. I could have misread, like I said I only got a brief glance at the opening bit.

Can we knock this shit off? The idea that "anyone who dislikes the BP films is racist" is mocked here, which, hey, that's mostly fair (but let's not be so ignorant to believe that racism magically vanished, obviously some people out there hate the films for that reason and some of them aren't exactly subtle about it especially recently).

But if that's the case, you can't dismiss anyone loving the film with the exact same bullshit. Otherwise why should one side "play nice" while the other side can freely accuse others of things? That's a blatant double standard.

Wait, what side do you think is playing nice and which side accuses?

If one side is throwing out accusations ("you only hate this movie because you're _____") with no definitive proof and the other side thinks that's bullshit, then the other side can't engage in the same behavior ("you only love this movie because you're _____") because that's, by THEIR OWN ARGUMENT, some bullshit.

So, to use a metaphorical situation, one can't tell an officer that that guy over there is running around naked and should be arrested for public indecency while the person telling the officer this is in the middle of stripping himself and not expect the officer to just arrest both naked people.

It's not perfect of course but it's pretty solid.

I'd have put more Nicolas Cage movies in because who wouldn't buy other than that, not bad.

You gotta make this simpler, I don't know what you are saying.

If someone hates a movie or loves a movie, someone shouldn't accuse them of being dishonest, discriminatory, or such unless this someone has definitive proof that the specific individual they're accusing has displayed such behavior when discussing said film. This should apply to everyone, especially those who turn their nose up at other people who throw out such unproven accusations.

I really don't see the big issue with it. If people disagree with certain films being on the list, not being on the list or the order they're in then fair enough. But how is it clear this has been done in bad faith?

This is just another they gave the list to make to the latest acneed artsy-pantsy urbanite New Yorker shitty hipster intern fresh from a BA in Social Sciences with a mention in 'Yurnalizm' who was vlogging about 'Look what amazing movies I know' ☝🏻🤓

There's not a bad movie in the list, but there are glaring omissions in the sense of 'look how smart I am by omitting these that everybody know and like' and putting what he/she/it believes to be obscure while knowledge doesn't go deeper than the hairs on your arm.
