When is The Simpsons going to end?

As much as I think it should, cause it's lost all it's charm for a while now... I doubt FOX would let it. It's still their cash cow.

I'd much rather they let Family Guy take over the reigns.

Probably until someone big dies knowing fox...or maybe they'll just replace them and keep on chugging

Groening has mentioned an even 20, which would have it end in 2009.

The Movie would be a good way to end it, in my mind.

I read/heard somewhere earlier this year that Groening had actually said that he thought maybe the show was at its halfway mark. A joking comment, I hope.

I don't watch it anymore (loved it during the 90s) but a friend of mine tells me how much it's declined in quality over the years.

I dearly miss Futurama.
(just recently saw that ep. where Leila gets stung by the giant space bee and goes into a coma....awesome!)

that is all.

My guess would be when it stops making Fox and the show's creators a lot of cash, which obviously isn't the case yet.

I think it's obvious the creators are almost done with it. 2-3 more years at the most, then it's the movie. And about damn time.

The ratings are high and the merchandise sales are booming...FOX won't let it end.

Except that's not how it works.

If the creators want it over, it will be over. And it will be in a few years. It's been said many times, 2, 3, maybe 4 more years, then the movie that they're working on.

Every time I see The Why of Fry, I pull my hair in frustration. The drama of that show was mixed into the comedy so damn well.

Except for the episode with Seymour. That was just plain sad.

except that if Fox throws bags of cash at the creators, they might not want it to be over anymore. That IS how it works.

"They'll never stop the Simpsons!
Have no fears, we've got stories for years!
Like Marge becomes a robot!
Maybe Moe gets a cell phone...
Has Bart ever owned a bear?
Or how about a crazy wedding,
where something happens and do do do do do..."

I've enjoyed the newer episodes! That said, I didn't have cable for 5 years and missed a huge chunk of the show that I am now seeing in reruns. I don't see a huge change in the show except that most of the gags are based off the same sort of elements and techniques that they started using in season 3. I still find it funnier than the majority of TV out there.

Its been getting better than it was 3-5 years ago but its still shit. I won't get anymore Simpsons DVDs past the 8th season. Well, maybe the 9th if I see it for dirt cheap.

I agree. Thats pretty sad that there's much, much worse out there.

I'm buying up to 9...10 is the last season with some really good stuff, but it's also the season the crap started...it'll be a tough call.

As much as they've dropped off in recent years, I still don't think it's THAT bad.
Strangely, Simpsons episodes come off much better when you see them in rerun form. It's like it takes a few watchings to sink in..

The real question is when will the haters just stop watching? Never, because be it excellent, good, average, bad, or downright awful episodes people will just keep watching. There could be something a thousand times better on tv, but if it's in the same timeslot as the Simpsons people will still just watch it and bitch. Homer J. owns your souls for no one can escape the hypnotic shine from his balding dome of doom! :)

I've only watched a newly-televised Simpson episode once in the past, I don't know, six or seven years.

Does anyone remember the episode that was televised on the evening of The Cosby Show's last episode (back when The Simpsons used to come on on Thursday nights)? There was a final scene tacked on after the closing credits, with Homer and Bart watching The Cosby Show, and Bart saying, "We're going to run this show into the ground."
