When the wrong couples got together

I'm currently doing a rewatch of The Office and it bothers me that Michael ended up with Holly

And not Jan

They spent many seasons building up their relationship and they had actual chemistry where as Holly was just plain annoying. I get her jokes are meant to make her more compatible with Michael but there was no fire, it was just bland.

What relationships in movies, TV or games do you think was a bad writing decision.

What made the Jan/Michael relationship interesting was how different they were. She was the literal antithesis of Michael and it made for some funny and brutally awkward situations. Remember the dinner party episode where they have some people over? Beginning to end awkward. And I loved it.

Fuckin Holly was a wet stump of a character that had no depth. I didn't like her character at all. Now look what you did, I'm sitting here ruminating over The Office when I should be eating my chicken.

I know some people find this a bit decisive but Nathan and Elena.

Between the events of Uncharted 1 and 2 they break-up, I don't believe we know why.

Between the events of Uncharted 2 and 3 they get married and break-up, it's unclear if they went as far as a divorce.

In Uncharted 4 we have them back together but Nate keeping secrets from her as that is likely her issue with him in the previous break-ups.

You see Elena is what we call a nagger.

She's continually trying to manipulate him into becoming someone he's not.

I believe he would have been much better off with Chloe whom is more into the adventure side that is his life.

elena is also more adventure side, just in a more journalistic way

uncharted 3 and 4 is garbage that doesn't exist in my mind

chloe is great, that's the kind of ass you hit and forget about for a while, and then when you see it again you hit it twice as hard, rinse and repeat.. OH BABY

I think those relationships are made to make the viewers uncomfortable, I do think power couples can exist but there's no real answer for the OP. Next thread.

F Scott Fitzgerald and Zelda.

He was a lifelong alcoholic who needed a restrained partner to reign him in. Instead he got together with someone even more self destructive than he was and died at 44.

This pretty much ruined Arrow for a while. Zero chemistry. Zero writing ability.

For this and quite a few others, you can pretty much point to 'Shippers' (or at least the bad ones, and the writers, showrunners, and execs that enable them) as an incredible destructive force.

Something tells me they've committed more than a few murders.
AHHahahaha, what, you looked at his hands?

The man was a huge criminal, he stole hundreds of cars - shot someone with a sawn-off. To this date he scares me.

I personally thought Jan and Michael were terrible as a couple. She made him have many vasectomies and reverse vasectomies (and at the end of the relationship she artificially inseminates herself), may have cheated on Michael with her receptionist Hunter (at least it implies it in one of the post Michael seasons), made copies of Michael's diary for a deposition, she also used Michael's credit card and maxed it out so much he thought running away off the grid would be a good solution (to be fair he also bought several stupid things), and videotaped them having relations for her therapist and to give Michael tips on how to "improve". Michael took an erotic photo of her on the beach and tried to show his friends and ended up showing everyone. He also often made weird gross sex jokes and references of their relationship to people in the office. Everytime they were together it was awkward and kind of gross.

Based on the title of this thread the actual content is a staggering disappointment. I thought this might be about a real personal anecdote that might engage me for all of ten seconds but instead its about some fake relationship on a fictional show that has long ago outlived its relevance and the fact that Im not ignoring OP outright for this banal nonsense is because, well Ive had a pretty good night so far.

And with that you've really elevated the thread. 😕

yes it was so sweet when jan literally rapes michael (he says the safe word, she pretends not to hear)

you got to look closer. rewatch it again. theyre so not made for each other.

jan is an awful awful controlling manipulator.

Have you watched How I Met Your Mother until the very end? Knowing what happened (concerning the mother) and how it ended makes it very depressing to rewatch the show.

I haven't seen the last season of Veronica Mars yet, but I hated who she ended up with in the 2014 movie.

Ye, I didn't really like Holly or at the very least thought she was unremarkable. She felt very artificial, like you just knew she was specifically designed to be with Michael which wouldn't have been half as bad if the show didn't already have Jim and Pam.

Their relationship and dynamic was fine before they decided to make Jan a bat-shit crazy Tammy prototype.

Lmao if you thought Jan and Michale were a good fit then I would hate to see what your actual relationships look like

Jan and Michael were interesting because they were so different from each other. But she treated him like shit and he was so stupid he let her and convinced himself he loved her.

Holly was goofy and it wasnt as interesting because they were so much alike but I still was glad they got together because it meant they were both happy.

Reminded me of women I'd been with before. It was interesting but for the wrong reasons. Now my wife and I might be boring together but that's because were a good match and no real surprises or problems. Our biggest differences is she isn't as organized as I am and I make shit/fart jokes too much for her sometimes.

Holly and Michael was a great couple, when he lost her I really felt bad for michael's character. I was glad they brought her back and wish there had mon on screen time together.

I stopped watching Friends when Monica and Chandler got together.

Same with Barney and Robin on How I Met Your Mother.
My ex loved that shitty show. Fucking bitch. ANYWAY Robin ends up with the main guy whatever his name is after their kids tell the guy AFTER LISTENING HIM TALK FOR 7 YEARS ABOUT OTHER WOMEN HE FUCKED AND ONE DAY ABOUT THEIR DEAD MOM TO GO TO ROBIN WHO HE WANTS TO SHAG. Yeah!

Wow this isn't copypasta.

Fez and Jackie. The whole on and off again Kelso/ Jackie got old and Hyde/ Jackie was ultimately doomed to fail but at least there was chemistry and build up to those relationships. The writers at the last minute panicked and picked the only guy who hadn't been with her and was still in the country. Then again, that last season in general was terrible.

I'm also realizing as I'm typing this that i cared way too much about that 70s show back in the day.

Rory and logan
Rory and Dean
Lorelei and Chris/max/anynotnamedluke
Veronica and Duncan
Oh boy, Gilmore Girls was a show full of wrong couples. They definitely done that intentionally, it wouldn't be entertaining if Lorelei & Luke got together in season 1 and lived happily without splitting up. Rory was even a bigger disaster when it came to choosing her partners.
