Oh boy, Gilmore Girls was a show full of wrong couples. They definitely done that intentionally, it wouldn't be entertaining if Lorelei & Luke got together in season 1 and lived happily without splitting up. Rory was even a bigger disaster when it came to choosing her partners.

Jess was the only one right for Rory and I think the one who knocked her up.

She may have not been full on crazy yet, but the dynamic was still a bit awkward as Jan sometimes belittled Michael as his superior and him just saying and doing the wrong thing every time.

I think OP is right in that Jan was the funnier cast member, and there was history there with Michael, maybe they could have made that work somehow. She was written to be a foil, and Holly was written to be his perfect match, and thus is just boring because of course they get along they were written for each other.

I want to discuss a popular TV show my wife and I have been binge-watching on Netflix. It's the story of a family man, a man of science, a genius who fell in with the wrong crowd. He slowly descends into madness and desperation, led by his own egotism. With one mishap after another, he becomes a monster. Her getting together with the perfect rich tall well mannered super charming house owning doctor dude is the same stupid thing as Rory and Logan was, and it feels mary sueish.
