I excercised the idea of buying clothes online, until I noticed that my brother did the same thing and he was receiving stuff that was obviously stolen (fubu pants with the labels ripped off, newly launched Nikes and Timberlands for $30, etc.) and I don't really feel like supporting Triads or the Russian mob just to look good

Zappos.com for shoes.

Yeah Zappos is quite good, free shipping and they usually upgrade it to 2-day for free after you've placed your order. Good idea is to try on the shoes somewhere and then see if you can get them on Zappos for cheaper, but I'm pretty sure they have a nice return policy too.

I haven't yet. On the other hand, I think I like the idea of trying on clothes, leaving, and then getting them on the Net for a fraction of the cost.. so I'll read this thread with interest.

Yeah, Zappos is great. They've never given me a problem returning shoes when they vary in size (*cough* Steve Madden *cough*) etc. Free shipping too. Good stuff.

I don't even attempt buying jeans online. Just tshirts from various band websites etc.

i've ordered from zappos and eastbay.com and both were great. No problems whatsoever. I'd be cautious about buying shoes online though, because you never know how certain companies fits are (especially some of the more obscure brands). Might be a good idea to go out to the store and try on a couple pairs from a particular brand just to get an idea. I don't blame you though, you can find a MUCH, much better selection of shoes online that you would at the local mall.

One nice thing about zappos is that they have those little comments beneath the shoes that often indicate whether the sizing is off. They even have the survey for more general info:

65% of Fit Survey respondents said this shoe "Felt true to size"
89% of Fit Survey respondents said this shoe "Felt true to width"
79% of Fit Survey respondents said this shoe had "Moderate arch support"

Though I never really just on the comments, they are usually quite reliable and accurate.

thats true, but every once in a while you'll get one person saying the shoe fits too big and another saying it runs too small. Sucks if you're like me and you are sort of inbetween sizes.

I just bought a pair of cheapo walking shoes off Zappos to see how their service is. If the shoes are the right size and shipping is okay then I'll probably make them my personal store

As most have already said, and any other sensible person, I get shoes from Zappos. They were fantastic when I ordered a pairs of Roos and Onitsukas a couple months ago. The Onitsukas were a little tight, and the exchange was lightning fast. And for what it's worth, the cheapo Roos that I bought mainly for kicking around in summer have netted me so many compliments that I'll probably grab a couple other pairs later in the year. :)

any links for clothes?

You'll never catch me buying pants or jeans online, but shirts are fine. I either get them from band sites or a few specific places:

Threadless

American Apparel

Fabic 8

Krudmart

Karma Loop

How did you order those two, Mike? They were both listed as out of stock when I was on there earlier. I went with a Stabby McKnife shirt, though.

Zappos is amazing. I've ordered shoes from them several times, and have always had a great experience. Their selection is great too and 90% of the time they'll upgrade you to free next day shipping. Probably my favorite online retailer.

I bought 7 threadless shirts in the past year.. damn their $10 deals.
(and now I want that new pillow one)

Tried Zappos, shipping to an American address, but they cancelled my order and didn't reply to my emails.

Um.. it's called physically going to a damn store and buying them. I've never bought any type opf clothing online, and frankly do not see the point.
