Which console launched with the most games?

I don't mean North American launch, I mean actual launch. Analyst are critical of the MS launch because of the quantity of games but it seems like quite a bit of titles for launch. Anyone know the console that had the most games day 1?

I think the 360 will set the record. Before that, the PS2 in Japan, I think.

Every launch game aswell as IGN review score since the N64 era. Thanks to Adam4tvs at IGN X360.
Some slight errors as some of these games appeared two weeks after launch but close enough I guess.

Interesting to look at. Some launches were actually better than I had remembered. Some of these games are within the first two weeks of launch.

N64 Launch:
9.8 - Super Mario 64
8.2 - Pilotwings 64

1 of 2 titles 8.5 or above
1 of 2 titles 9.0 or above
1 of 2 titles 9.5 or above

Overall a pathetic launch, but it shows the power of one must-have game. I played the ever-lovin' hell out of Mario 64.

Dreamcast Launch:

8.0 - AeroWings
8.1 - AirForce Delta
8.4 - Blue Stinger
7.3 - Expendable
8.2 - Flag to Flag
8.7 - House of the Dead 2
8.7 - Hydro Thunder
7.6 - Monaco Grand Prix
6.3 - Mortal Kombat Gold
8.3 - NFL Blitz 2000
9.7 - NFL 2K
6.6 - Pen Pen Tri-Icelon
8.7 - Power Stone
9.1 - Ready 2 Rumble
10.0 - Soul Calibur
8.6 - Sonic Adventure
6.0 - TNN Motorsports
8.8 - Tokyo Xtreme Racer
8.8 - Trickstyle

9 of 19 titles above 8.5
3 of 19 titles above 9.0
2 of 19 titles above 9.5

The gold standard of launches including a 9.7 and a perfect 10. More than just the scores, so many genres were ready right off the bat. Most consider this the best launch.

PS2 Launch

8.0 - Armored Core 2
8.7 - Dead or Alive 2: Hardcore
7.9 - Dynasty Warriors 2
8.0 - ESPN Winter X Games Snowboarding
6.5 - Eternal Ring
7.2 - Evergrace
6.5 - FantaVision
8.4 - Gungriffon Blaze
8.1 - Kessen
8.6 - Midnight Club: Street Racing
7.3 - MotoGP
9.0 - Madden NFL 2001
7.8 - NHL 2001
4.5 - Orphen: Scion of Sorcery
5.0 - Q-Ball: Billiards Master
6.2 - Ready 2 Rumble Boxing: Round 2
8.0 - Ridge Racer V
9.3 - SSX
6.4 - Silent Scope
7.9 - Smuggler's Run
5.0 - Street Fighter EX3
7.3 - Swing Away Golf
8.6 - TimeSplitters
8.7 - Tekken Tag Tournament
8.4 - Unreal Tournament
7.8 - Wild Wild Racing
6.8 - X-Squad

6 of 27 titles above 8.5
2 of 27 titles above 9.0
0 of 27 titles above 9.5

This wasn't actually as bad as I thought it was, but I think the fact that there were SOOOOO many sub-par games hurt them. If it was 6 of 16 above 8.5, it would've looked better. Still 2 9.0+ games ain't shabby.

Xbox Launch

6.2 - AirForce Delta Storm
8.5 - Amped: Freestyle Snowboarding
6.5 - Cel Damage
6.9 - Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 2
9.4 - Dead or Alive 3
9.7 - Halo
7.7 - Mad Dash Racing
8.6 - Madden NFL 2002
8.5 - NASCAR Thunder 2002
7.9 - NFL Fever 2002
8.0 - NHL Hitz 20-02
7.8 - NBA Live 2002
7.4 - Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee
8.8 - Project Gotham Racing
7.0 - Test Drive Off-Road -- Wide Open
7.5 - Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2x

6 of 16 titles above 8.5
2 of 16 titles above 9.0
1 of 16 titles above 9.5

Great launch. Many can argue that these games were overrated as Xbox-IGN tended to do that in 2001, but you could have a fun launch day with several titles.

GameCube Launch

8.1 - Batman Vengeance
6.9 - Crazy Taxi
8.0 - Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 2
8.6 - FIFA Soccer 2002
7.0 - Luigi's Mansion
8.7 - Madden 2002
9.1 - Pikmin
9.1 - Star Wars Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader
8.5 - Super Monkey Ball
7.9 - SSX Tricky
9.6 - Super Smash Bros. Melee
9.1 - Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3
9.2 - Wave Race: Blue Storm
8.5 - XG3 Extreme G Racing

9 of 14 titles above 8.5
5 of 14 titles above 9.0
1 of 14 titles above 9.5

Wow. I loved the GameCube launch but it's gotten slammed in recent memory. Some very, very, very good games - 5 above 9.0+. Hell some could argue this as better than Dreamcast! Although Dreamcast's biggest advantage was having EVERY genre covered well, something GameCube has never been good at.

Nintendo DS Launch

5.5 - Asphalt: Urban GT
7.8 - Feel the Magic: XY/XX
7.0 - Madden NFL 2005
6.5 - Mr. Driller Drill Spirits
7.5 - Ridge Racer DS
7.5 - Spider-Man 2
8.9 - Super Mario DS
7.0 - The Urbz: Sims in the City

1 of 8 titles above 8.5
0 of 8 titles above 9.0
0 of 8 titles above 9.5

Ouch. Ouch again.

Sony PSP Launch

7.0 - Ape Escape: On the Loose
7.0 - Darkstalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower
6.0 - Dynasty Warriors
7.5 - Gretzky NHL
8.6 - Lumines
6.5 - Metal Gear Acid
6.0 - NBA
7.9 - Need for Speed Underground Rivals
7.8 - NFL Street 2: Unleashed
9.1 - Ridge Racer
7.0 - Spider-Man 2
8.0 - Twisted Metal: Head-On
8.7 - Tony Hawk's Underground 2 Remix
7.6 - Tiger Woods PGA Tour
7.6 - Untold Legends: Brotherhood of the Blade
9.3 - WipEout Pure
7.4 - World Tour Soccer

4 of 17 titles above 8.5
2 of 17 titles above 9.0
0 of 17 titles above 9.5

Good launch, not great. For many however, one look at that screen and they didn't care. Still, 4 of those titles I still play - and kept me busy for months. (How did Lumines get under 9.0?!!?)

Xbox 360 Launch

8.8 - Project Gotham Racing 3
7.8 - NBA 2K6
8.0 - Madden NFL 06
8.4 - Kameo: Elements of Power

What we have so far. Really not as bad as everyone's making it out to be...but I believe many thought Kameo and PGR would be 9.0+. I believe only Condemned will get above 9.0 for the launch. We'll see.

Now I know you can argue specific scores for specific games, but it's really a great picture of how launches have been in the past 10 years.

I think the US Dreamcast had 23 titles at launch.

Right, but the first territory is lauched in was Japan, with only four games.

I think the topic is about the FIRST territory to see a system launch, not just US.

I love that were going to have these same threads during the PS3 and Revolution launch. Like these threads never happened

O_O

*fades into existence....

PS2 launched with 26 titles day one in the US. Oddly I can still remember most of them, except a few sports titles.

Armored core 2
Eternal Ring
Evergrace

Kessen
Dynasty Warriors 2

Doa2 Hardcore

Tekken Tag Tournament
Ridge Racer 5

Summoner

Fantavision
NFL gameday
NHL faceoff

Street Fighter EX3

Madden
Nascar
Xsquad
SSX
NHL

Sorcerous stabber Orphen

Smugglers Run
Midnight Club

Unreal Tournament

GunGriffon Blaze

ESPN Xgames snowboarding

Silpheed

Timesplitters

PS2 launch was unique in that it covered many genres but almost all of the games were complete and total garbage. Also I checked an old PSM to get the few games I missed. But yeah, 26 games perhaps 3 of them even worth a 7/10 nowadays.

Edit- ARGh, someone beat me to the punch above it seems. Ahwell.

If I picked up a PS2 today(with the ps2 launch lineup) I would have gone for:

SSX
Tekken Tag
Timesplitters
&
Summoner

(I don't like sport games)

Thanks, Wollan. Yeah the question was concerning actual launch not US launch.

It looks like the 360 is launching with the most games. Did the psp have 23 games during its actual launch?
