Which group has to do the most Damage Control after seeing their Next Gen system?

DarienA

The black man everyone at Activision can agree on
MS? Tripped at the MTV conference but recovered well to have a good press conference?

Sony? Expected to focus on PSP and PS2 at their press conference they focus almost completely on the PS3, show lots of tech demos, drop specs, show developers, and completely ignore their current generation?

Nintendo? Show new system(and how developing for it will be cheaper than the competitors), no controller, no specs, offer a download service of their entire back catalog, spend alot of time on electroplankton, nintendogs... show Zelda(niice), a collage of upcoming GC and DS games... and talk about keeping costs down? Oh yeah and another godd*mn GBA... wait I'm sorry this should be impartial... and show another GBA for the "image-conscious" gamer?

Choose your poison!

Are you joking? Did you see the last conference? Did you hear the Nintendo stuff at GAF lately? It was like Drinky's wet dream.

Nintendo dosent have to do damage control, it needs to just reveal what they have for once. 360 at least has to come up with an explainaton for PD0.

Ugh, this is one lousy E3 considering this is the revelation of the next gen.

MS fans can always mention Ghost Recon 3 and PGR3 to make up for the poor PD0 showing and lame MTV show... Nintendo fans can mention... umm, Electroplankton? I think Nintendo fans (those that are left) have the most damage control to do.

Sony - they have alot to live up to in order to shut peeps up about the shit they showed being non gameplay. They'll have people talking for and against until they do so its goes both ways.

MS - Majority of games not being built from groundup on the system is hurting them the most. Some games look absolutley great tho which alot of people are trying to sweep under the rug for some reason and highlight the ugly shit.

Nintendo - Bring out the fuckin Iraqi Information Minister :lol

It's not like Nintendo has damage to control. It's as if reports from the scene haven't even came in yet. No info.

MS does, because Sony's conference ruled, and Nintendo still hasn't shown anything yet. MS laid it all out and it was a stinker.

I don't really know...

Sony seems to have succeeded somehow thanks to the insane cgi trailers but I don't really see much to the system. It's amazing that they didn't take many hits. The controller looks uncomfortable and unfriendly to FPS and fighting games. The system is nearly the size (or bigger) of the original XBOX and they haven't really announced anny innovative system for their online section and yet people think the clear winner. The trailers really did wonders.

XBOX came back after the OVERBLOWN PDO fiasco (people like to ignore the other gorgeou games) but they didn't do too much other than reveal SQUARE which was huge but somewhat underwhelming because of the game being old. The LIVE features sound incredible. I'm just surprised to not see Halo 3 or Splinter Cell pop up in the demo reel since they're old XBOX classic series.

Nintendo dug a grave for themselves... there really isn't much more to say. Do people really need a smaller GBA? Come on...

Microsoft, because they showed their hand and it got blown away by PS3. Nintendo didn't show shit, which is a problem in it's own right, but not the type of damage control that MS needs to be doing (*cough* wallguy)

DAMAGE CONTROL WINNER: NINTENDO

At least Nintendo fans still have something to look forward to.

The xbox 360 hardware and xbox live features sounded amazing but the games didnt back it up. Nintendo has nothing at this point.

Well, Nintendo drones ought to be doing the most damage control, but most have given up in disgust.

There's a bit of Xbot spin going on, mostly about how Sony's stuff is "all FMV" or some such crap, or attacking it for what it's not.

Oddly, I like everything I'm hearing about all the consoles. Nintendo may have had a lousy conference, but what little we do know about the system sounds cool (I like the downloadable old games a lot). Xbox seems to be getting better suport than ever, and Sony seems to have done everythign right, except maybe the controller, especially a GTA and MGS at launch.

For me, best E3 ever.

This is the correct answer.

Nintendo fans. A system that going to launch a good 9 months after 360 yet will be serverly underpowered. Looks like a cable modem too

After that conference Xbots have nothing to worry about. Zelda was looking kind of rough to boot

Smiles and Cries renegging on Nintendo; oh yes, the damage control IS WHACKED.

It would appear to be Nintendo by what I'm hearing in that E3 thread.

I think MSFT has taken some deserved heat over the look of PD0 and some MTV-ish hyperactivity, but OTOH as things settle down the sum of all that is being offered with Xbox360 and its games will ultimately be seen as quite good by all but the most irredeemable fanboys.

Sony came out hitting hard and responded well to the competition, but it all seemed to be only about attempting to overpower MSFT's 360 videos and on-paper specs.

Which means MSFT/360 has a minor bit of damage control to be done for those who were swayed by the Sony presentation, fair or not.

Sony: A
Microsoft: C
Nintendo: C-

Microsoft blew it by unveiling everything at the MTV event. The only new thing I can remember at their E3 conference was FFXI, and is that supposed to be impressive? They spent too much time hammering home how great it'll be that we can buy online stickers, and their buzzwords/terminology was just utterly lame (I'm sure Velocity Girl will agree with me there). They're damn lucky they held their conference before Sony's, because if they had tried to show those games off after...

Nintendo was obviously not ready to unveil their system/next gen lineup yet, and I have a hard time believing they would've shown anything at all if it weren't for Microsoft putting pressure on them and Sony by launching so early. In retrospect, we got to see the new system, learned that there'll be Super Smash Brothers online, and then downloadable NES - N64 games. If Nintendo had kept all this SECRET instead of it getting leaked out in an article the night before, it would've been much more impressive, and their conference would probably rank ahead of Microsoft's. The GameBoy micro was a surprise, and it will make them a lot of money, but it doesn't get me excited. Then there were the PAINFUL parts, like electroplankton DJ and that fucking bitch and her Nintendogs. New Zelda! New Zelda! C'mon! Jesus.

Sony clearly had the best conference, which is a surprise, as they usually never do. They felt the heat coming from MS's early push, and they showed up. Most people think Killzone and the other great looking games are CG created movies that the developers think they'll be able to achieve with their games. No one really specified on that. But it doesn't matter. Killzone and Motor Storm got me fucking HYPED for next gen, and even if the first gen graphics don't live up to those movies, it doesn't matter right now. I'm hyped. Microsoft and Nintendo may complain that Sony cheated by showing those FMV's, but guess what, they did it last time too, so you should've been expecting it. The problem with Microsoft is they're too close to launch to show CG and then try to replicate it, and Nintendo's too far away/unprepared to show much of anything.

Bottom line, Sony will probably have the least impressive floor when it comes to playable games, but they've "won" E3 right now.

At least this time all three consoles are good-looking.

I am getting a 360, then a PS3 then I'll be done til the next gen. Sorry Nintendo. I don't need Smash Bros., so, good luck and everything.

Sony did well with the tech demo's.
Microsoft look to have a great business model. Great machine coupled with awesome live support.
Nintendo - baahahahahahahahahahaha die die

It's all about what people were expecting out of E3. Revisit the threads about how Nintendo will be joint number one this generation, about how Revolution will be unveiled and crush XBox 360 and PS3 with the weight of its innovation. About how GBA2 will be the true PSP killer. Like Star Trek films, it seems that odd-numbered E3s are a curse on Nintendo.

XBox fans had their expectations lowered massively by the MTV showing, so don't need much in the way of damage control. Once they recover from the lingering disappointment of XBox 360 a la Snow Patrol (shouldn't they get someone who can play the drums?) they can start gloating about Squenix support (sure, it's 'only' FFXI - how long ago was it people were saying Squenix wouldn't touch XBox with a barge pole?). And it's not like Wall Guy's the new XBox 360 mascot. PGR3, anyone? Another well-thought out online strategy that'll even get me playing?

Sony weren't expected to show much of anything PS3. But they did, and they showed it in force. Whether you choose to believe that it's all in-game footage and they could launch tomorrow, or that Sony are liars and PS2 hasn't delivered anything that can match the PSX tech demos yet (and remember, the threat of a banning for trotting that one out again still stands) they made a big impression, one-upped everything MS had shown (as you'd expect - exactly as happened last time - the console that comes out later is more powerful. Shock! Horror!) and slammed a royal flush of big-name games on the table.

Mark my words, it'll be Nintendo fans who are crying into their pillows tonight as they desperately try to work out how to spin it positively. The only way their lives could be worse will be when, at E3 2007 it is revealed that Nintendo is being sold, lock stock and barrel to
Drinky Crow
. You know it's true.

holy shit i agree

great post i dont need to add anything else

Until Revolution is fully revealed, I say X360. There's no denying the Nintendo conference was a piece of shit, but info about the Revolution so far has been A-OK.

Microsoft got hit hard by Sony imo...

of course, the media will be thankful that MS actually showed them something. I can see Nintendo getting wailed on hard in the media until they show more. Nintendo left out the big specifics though... they could be anything, we really don't know. It could be a potential triumph when they do.

Nintendo fans only have to damage control the conf. But not the system cause we know shit about it. Except that its the sexiest one them all ;). Nintendo better have a conf. like SpaceWorld this year to do their Revolution blowout.

MS fans are the ones right now that have to do the most damage control. They have to defend their console against the fact that its going to be 9 months older than PS3 and weaker. They also have to deal with PD0.

PS fans are fine, they have no need for damage control at all at the moment.

x360

microsoft have played their hand and sony bettered it.

Nintendo showed next to nothing. U cannot do damage control when nothing has been revealed. The positives of 20years of games, ssbm online are well.... positives. I guess we are going to have to wait... bleh

Microsoft has the most damage control to do. Launching the Xbox 360 in about 5 months without any heavy hitters is going to cost them. Having Sony unveil PS3 before their conference really killed any steam they had. Smells like Dreamcast 2 to me.

Nintendo will be fine biding their time until next E3.

If MS tries to damage control the 360 conference because their graphics weren't as impressive then they will be completely missing the point of 360's potential for success. PS3 showed awesome awesome graphics. Whoop. De. Doo. 360's descriptions of their online components were a zillion times more interesting. And sure, PS3 might be able to do the same things when it finally comes out, but an NFL sponsored Fantasy Football Tournament on Madden 2006 360 (where the winner wins a trip to the Super Bowl) will already be halfway through its season by then and no one will give a shit when PS3 says "Hey, we can do that too!"

Nintendo didn't show anything so i guess only Sony and MS are in this contest. MS is up for the damage control.

I think nintendo showing nothing is kinda bad :/ sure they didn't talk about the revolution but what about the gamecube? they have to support that for over a year until the revolution comes out and all they talked about was zelda and mario does take your pick. thats the part I would be worried about

Madden 360 is a big heavy hitter...

Press Conference Grades

Sony - A
Microsoft - B
Nintendo - D

I'm not sure about the damage control and which fans are the worst. Who cares.

I think you guys are missing some of the points.

Sure Sony showed some great graphics.... but which is the better system? Overall.... not just "pretty graphics".

Honestly, Sony has no online plan to trump XBL for Xbox or X360. They can have the prettiest games, but if I can't play online with friends, then what the fuck is the point?

I think the forum tells us exactly which fans have been on damage control for what? about 24 hours? Straight.

I'm disappointed about Nintendo but HOPEFULLY it means since they didn't reveal anything at all this E3 (except the basic aspects of Revolution) that next E3 will be huge for them. If this is the case, it might've been wise to do what Nintendo has done. They'll generate a ton of excitement much closer to the release of the system.

I was most pleased with Sony's show but mostly because of the Final Fantasy VII tech demo. Cool. :)

Other than the ugly games what exactly did MS fuck up, or is that the only complaint people have? If the hardware were that badly underpowered dont you think we would be hearing about it? Six EA games at launch is a big deal and will have more of an impact than any ps3 tech demo.

Thank you for proving our points that MS fans indeed have the most damage control to do. :)

Well, that is true. If Nintendo does have a big show planned later or what not, then they can bid their time. PS3 isnt going to be out until next year anyway, and Rev is not coming out this year. I dont think anyone cares but us hardcore gamers coming online. As far as the public is concerned, GC will have Zelda and Pokemon and Nintendo's brand is mostly with handhelds not consoles

Dmg control for what? Perfect Dark Zero looked like shit, Gears of Wars looked better than Killzone on the PS3. I'm not really barking "OMG DAMAGE CONTROL FOR MICRO$OFT OMG!!! BURNING IT HURTZ!!!"

no. What i'm saying is out of the presentations, Microsoft believed in what they were saying. Sony, they just wanted to jab at Microsoft. Nintendo, reggie needed some poptarts.

What happened at the sony conference? I fell asleep to Ken's engrish and woke up for a second to see some graphs.

What I got so far was big console design, boomarang controller, and some nice CG footage.

What did I miss? Cause it sounds like I missed something big.
