So, I marathoned Samurai Champloo and it was one of the best series I've seen (RIP Nujabes) since Gurren Laggan. I've also seen and have adored FMA Brotherhood. I'm not too snobby when it comes to this stuff, so based on my tastes and what I've enjoyed, what would you recommend I get into next?

It's hard finding something on here that grabs me after the ridiculous originality and characterizations of Champloo. I couldn't get into Soul Eater or Highschool of the dead - too kiddy/over sexualized. Mushi shi is too slow. Have I seen the best Netflix has to offer? Help! Is the correct answer adventure time?

the correct answer is always adventure time.

though they only have the first season.

but if it must be anime

trigun
soul eater
eden of the east
samurai 7
afro samurai
full metal alchemist
speed grapher
high school of the dead

that's my recommendation list. in that order.

Same question, but I'd like to add: Which anime on there have good dubs? Because Netflix anime as far as I know is all dub.

How's Rin for instance?

Get a Crunchyroll trial and watch Attack on Titan.

I do. I've been watching. It's great. I sit through the entire opening like I did with Champloo.

Dunno, but Trigun is subbed. There's a big beefy girl with a high voice. I don't find it funny.
Champloo has one of the best dubs I've ever heard after a couple of episodes once the actors hit their strides.

My suggestions to the OP:

Last Exile -- Really good art and animation quality considering it's a full-length series. Really interesting setting too. It's sort of like 18th century politics but they're fighting a war with airships and WWII fighter planes.

Sky Crawlers -- Very interesting movie if you ask me. It's by the guy who directed Ghost in the Shell and can be pretty contemplative. It's also about a sort of fantasy WWII-era air combat but has quite a bit of subtext on gaming and nerd culture.

I recently finished Last Exile and Angel Beats. Last exile was alright, but I feel it goes a little downhill after the villain is introduced. It's still pretty enjoyable though. I liked Angel Beats more than I thought I would. I hated the first episode but I got hooked after the 2nd or 3rd. I'd say give Mushi-shi another chance. I thought it was a little slow at first too but shit gets interesting later on. As for me, I think I'll try Gunslinger Girl next.

anime selection in the us is sadly not what it used to be. i was going recommend some titles but realize that they have long since expired :(

what happened to all the anime? did netflix just stop renewing deals (no one watching or too expensive?) or are these shows just locked up by other services?

The only correct answer is Girls Bravo.

Just kidding. Stay far away from that show. I haven't seen most of the anime listed in the OP, but Squid Girl is pretty good if you like comedy.

I really enjoyed Samurai 7. Dudes with swords vs mechs!

I need to make a similar thread to this for Crunchyroll now that Attack on Titan and Gargantia are finished.

Trigun is pretty good.

Watching it now. As I said, Milly is freaking me out. I don't know if I can handle it.

Prolly no one watching. Gurren Laggann pops up every now and again. Same with Death Note. Used to be a couple pages worth of stuff... all dubbed. Hulu is all subbed as far as I know, but with less selection last time I checked.

With Funimation, VIZ and Sentai all trying to get their own subscription-based services up and running, I wouldn't be surprised if they deliberately stopped giving content to Netflix. Although with Funimation it seems they're just giving Netflix their bomba titles.

How far did you get into Soul Eater?

Tooonami GAF is enjoying the hell out of that show.

Give it another shot. It is worth it.

Darker than Black and Tokyo Godfathers look to be the best of the list there. Trigun's good. The rest I'm either not familiar with or 'meh' about.

Netflix has like... no good anime except Samurai Champloo. I watched Tokyo Godfathers last night and it was pretty cool, so maybe check that out.

Trigun, Kenichi, Squid Girl, Eden of the East, Darker Than Black, Fullmetal Alchemist (that's the original and not Brotherhood) Ouran High Host Club, Desert Punk and Chobits.

They've lost a lot over the past year, all their Viz stuff is gone, most of the good Funimation stuff is gone.

I think he am make funny. What with Nujabes (the composer) tragically passing well before his time.

I think he might have believed he was a character. If he was unfamiliar with the show or Nujabes, I could definitely see how he might think that was a character that dies at some point in the show, and thus a spoiler. Or it could be a joke, I guess.

Watch Space Brothers on Crunchy Roll.

Everybody: watch Space Brothers.

Seriously people, watch Space Brothers.

Simulcasts on Crunchy Roll every Saturday. Watch it.

I need to get back to Space Brothers. I got pretty far into it, (Mid-series spoilers):
Mutta officially passed the final exam to become an astronaut.

I decided after that point that I would give the series a few months to get further along, to the point where it finishes its next major arc. Watching that show week-to-week was wonderfully painful.

To OP: Watch Tokyo Godfathers. Kon's finest film, and the best X-mas film you will ever watch.

Try last Exile. Steampunk adventure show.

Trigun is also excellent.

You might like Eden of the East, it's a bit more thriller than action though.

Oh, Trigun is a must watch....and I enjoyed the dub version a lot also. I disagree with the notion that it is cringeworthy.
That song and its meaning must have a bigger effect on the viewer in the dub version than the sub version I imagine, since it is in english :p

Trigun had a solid dub.

Is that a series spoiler in the very first line of the OP?

I'm 4 episodes into Trigun and I have no idea what to make of this Vash dude. Is he really Vash the stampedeodesu? Is he schizophrenic. It's funny, humorous, and also comedic. When does the dude in red start blowing people away? Is it always campy or do we find out Vash is hiding beneath a veneer of stupidity because he's a wanted mang? Why is Milly so buff? I don't like it.

Stick with it. The payoff is worth it.
