I've been thinking of getting a Samsung Galaxy Note 4, but a Friend of mine recently gave me a OnePlus One invite and said for me to consider it. I don't know too much about phones but due to the fact that Im buying a Phone off contract. I'd like to know what the general consensus is on which phone would be better? A Note 4 (Goes for $700-800.00 unlocked) or a OnePlus One ($349.00) ?

Would be much appreciated to hear your thoughts GAF

what are your needs? one plus is more then enough for 95 % of the users. if you want better camera more multitasking, some really innovating features such as 3d and pen then note 4.

Note 4

Better Camera
Better Screen
Better software (cyanogenmod OS is buggy as fuck)
OnePlus is a shady company
Better Design

Get the Note 4. OnePlus does not offer any form of support with their device and dealing with them is absolutely hell. If you are ok with that then OPO is the better buy.

Honestly, I have no specific needs then the most common person. I mean I may put some ROMS and emulator's on but no where near anything specific. I like the Note 4 due to it's size and the fact it's quite powerful.

But I just don't know enough about the OnePlus One...I hear it's a pretty hard phone to get, is this true?

For me, a phone is a 2+ year commitment, not just from me but from the manufacturer. Phones need software support and they hardware support if it turns out there was an innate manufacturing defect. Oneplus doesn't have a long track record, but their early marketing campaigns and the support they have reportedly given customers when things go wrong throw off a lot of warning signs about how competent they are as a company. It's at least worth factoring that into a decision.

Some people have good luck with their OPO, but do some research and you will find a ton of people who have had terrible quality issues and gotten no support at all.

The note 4 is expensive, but it's the best phone I've ever owned by far. Nothing even comes close. A phone is a multi year commitment to me, so I'd personally go with the note 4 every time.

They opened up orders on their 1st anniversary which anyone could buy one, but it seems it has ended. If you need a relatively cheap mid-top tier android phone to satisfy your everyday need OPO is a good fit.

But does agree on their lack of competent customer support, you are pretty much on your own when it comes to OPO.

OPO:

cheaper
64gbs of storage
textured back
cyanogen is a good rom (even if the ceo is a massive douche), and even a near-stock rom that 1+ is developing would be vastly better than touchwiz)
aesthetics are nicer (imo).

i'm jelly of gear VR though, i admit.

Depends on what you want.

Pure Lollipop (akin to iPhone fluidity and simplicity) and good at everything:
Nexus 6

Lots of features/gimmicks and very confusing/bloated with TouchWiz, but still good at everything:
Note 4

Amazing value, but no customer support, and expect to perform maintenance and system tweaks regularly to keep things from going awry:
OPO

Personally, I went Nexus, and holy shit I'm never going back.
