I was thinking about going to one, just as break for something to do in the summer. Has anyone ever gone to one? I'm just wandering if it's worth the time and money?
A lot of my friends bartend or bartended at some point and none of them ever went to bartending school; my friend who part owns a bar says he's never hired someone who went to bartending school (we were actually just talking about this the other day). IMO if you have the time you're better off working at a bar carrying crates and changing glasses while you learn the ropes from someone (it's got a name but I can't remember right now). Going to school certainly isn't essential for getting a bartending job, experience is, although perhaps it's different elsewhere in the country.

it's called a bar back. I have friends that have bartended that have gone to bartending school and some that haven't. Wether you go to bartending school or not, getting a job as a bartender is about who you know, not how many parts vodka to juicea and grenadine.
Ya, just go looking for a barback job (bartender assistant really). You get to learn ALOT more than you ever would at school ... plus you make some extra cash while you are learning. Eventually, if you are a decent person, they will ask you to become a bartender (it may take awhile).
Prepare yourself for staying up to 4am on weekend nights, after hour parties, breaking up fights, and crazy customers.
I'm just looking to pick up some part time work. I'm going to eventually quit my full time job to pursue law school, and I want a part time gig that doesn't involve me selling computer game or flipping burgers.
