Who makes good TVs these days?

LCD's: Samsung and Sharp, though I've had issue with Sharp's quality as of late.
Plasma: Panasonic, though be careful which model you buy.

I have no idea, but I love my Panasonic & Toshiba.

Pleasantly surprised by a Vizio I got on clearance too.

I haven't had good experiences with Samsung plasmas and LCDs lately in regards to their durability. YMMV, of course.

I'd go with Panasonic for plasma and Sharp for LCD.

I have a Samsung LCD for a couple of years now and it's very good in my opinion. I recently bought a Vizio LCD and it's pretty good too, a lot cheaper too.

Samsung make good TVs, but the build quality is a bit cheap when compared to brands like Sony or Sharp. But then again they cost less. My latest purchase was a 42" Philips, and to be honest I love it.

LCD: LG (at least the high-end model eg. LE8500 are very good for their price)
Plasam: Panasonic

I would never buy a Samsung TV especially after the whole "3D full HD is not 1080p" issue.

Basically,

LCD or LED: Samsung
Plasma: Panasonic

This. Then again there really isn't that much difference in other brands long as the price range is same. Back in the day I went from 1500€ Samsung to same price Sony and the picture quality was the same, only thing different were the preset color settings but you should do them yourself anyways so it doesn't really matter.

Same goes for Plasmas but Panasonic has the widest selection in all price ranges so if you go with plasma go with panasonic.

Samsung seems to be getting massive popular in Europe (netherlands their shop displays are outstanding)

I just purchased a lounge set and I'm waiting on delivery, it comes with a free LG LCD tv, with literally no information apart from 42 inch 2 HDMI connections. I really hope I get a good one :(

I'm very impressed with the 55" LG backlit LED LCD I bought a while back (55LW9500). IQ is on par or better than some of the more expensive Samsungs I was looking at. Good price, good picture and really thin for a backlit LCD with good aesthetics. Lag is reasonable for gaming to me, but YMMV. It's not 3D though - it's not important to me.
