Who's getting Animal Crossing DS?

I'm not, but I would in a second if I owned a DS. (I don't play handhelds)

Also, what will your town names be?
What features do you hope are implemented?
If online play is possible, which GAF members' towns would you like to visit?

Wait...what? What just happened here?

If the DS is $100 by then, sign me up. No idea on the rest of that crap though. Next time, I'd suggest starting a similar thread for a game you personally are buying.

Between Animal Crossing, Mario Kart, and Wars, I'll finally break down and buy a DS. I hope theres a pricedrop and/or new colors by then.

Man, I've played Animal Crossing GC for so many hours that I'll probably have a seizure trying to re-build money and HRA points...

But, at heart, AC was meant to be pick-up-and-play....I'll see.

I am buying ot regardless because I loved AC on the Cube, but it better be Online or this Animal Crossing won't be getting alot of my play time like the Cube version did...infact if it doesn't include online, I'll complete the main goal and toss the game aside...but Nintendo won't care, they got my money right?

I bought my DS knowing this game would be coming out for it. I hope it hits before the end of the year. Heck, I might even import if it looks like an American release will take as long as it did for the Cube.

Features I want to see:

- ONLINE! Please Nintendo! It's a communication game!
- "E-mail" items to other players.
- More than one person can be in town at the same time.
- Better menu system using the touch screen
- More character customization.
- The ability to have an animal roommate... Pecan is my wife! ... LOL .... =(
- More "bad" stuff to do...
- Listen/spy on other animal's conversations to see what they say about you. :lol

AC DS has so much potential...

I hope there's some oldskool games locked away in it again... those were my favorite parts of the first AC :)

Because of Animal Crossing and Super Mario Bros I have been very keen on buying a DS. But I simply have very little use for a handheld I can almost always play a console instead. I do catch some public transport but it’s generally to busy to sit down and play games.

I have hardly used my GBA so yeah it would be stupid of me to rush out and buy a DS.

Agreed. I would love to see some great SNES ports. Wouldn't mind some Earthbound or Super Metroid with my Animal Crossing.

Can you imagine how sweet Animal Crossing Online would be? Here's hoping Revolution takes advantage of that, since it's most definitely NOT going to be online for the DS.

I recently started playing AC again on my Gamecube. (and an Action Replay, hehe)

This game never ceases to amaze me with the number of things I haven't seen or read. Just looking through the complete catalog I realize that not only did I not acquire everything legitimately during my 23871301707831 hours playing the game, but I also had never seen some of it. (tanabata palm? some weird japanese puppet show thing? these three dolls that keep jumping on top of each other? 4 types of drums?)

I hope it's online for the DS for it's fans. It seems like the dumbest thing in the world if it isn't. Maybe it's just getting a pokemon treatment.

Yes. If it's the same exact thing as the GC version, then perhaps not, but I doubt Nintendo will do that. Hopefully it'll be online.

I wait with much anticipation. Online/networking is a must. My girlfriend is far away, but a DS would allow us to be near each other.
The town would be Narnia, like always.

Of course. I'm picking ACDS up the moment it's released here.

But, from what I can tell, some of you have not seen the latest media from the game. There's a very brief clip at IGN, which I shall link, that confirms a few things.

-More than one player can live in the same house.
-More than one player can be in the town at the same time.
-You can live with animals.
-There is a new menu system.
-There seems to be a higher level of character creation. Which isn't much considering the original featured randomly-generated characters.

The video clip can be seen here: http://media.ds.ign.com/media/682/682878/vids_1.html

I do like how the new towns seem to be on a large sphere / globe that rotates as you walk.

Count me in on this, ACDS is one of the reasons I got a DS ... AC is so perfect as a portable game.

I'm considering a DS + AC DS purchase.

But AC DS would have to truly offer something new and not be Animal Crossing v1.5

The original was for the N64 and Nintendo has since whored out the code and added and tweaked stuff and released it several more times. There's the N64 version > GC jp version > GC NA version (with password trading) > GC jp v2 version which is the NA version ported back

All of it was practically the same game with a few items added and a few things moved and changed around. A DS AC in the vein would be relatively uninspired and boring.

Can you imagine how sweet Animal Crossing Online would be?

I'm not convinced AC would work well as an MMO type game where there's a persistent universe and people could come and go etc. There's too much room here for malice, and the game, like all MMO would quickly evolve into a rat race of who got the most bells, most furniture and it takes away from the liesurely playground the AC offers.

The AC games tend to emphasize co-operation and cohabitation over the traditional MMO character building race that is pretty much standard in any MMORPG today.

Besides, I'm highly skeptical Nintendo would start an on-line service and invest that much money into an AC game that consumers might have to end up paying a monthly fee to. If they do, it'd be a radical turn for them.

What I'm expecting, assuming it is on-line at all, is a battle.net type free service with a relatively cheap infrastructure. That means there's probably a trading house system on a Nintendo server AC users could log into to trade items and download and upload little bits of stuff. Their towns might be allowed to be uploaded as a kind of scale model that people can visit and play in, but ultimately, much of the playing will occur offline, with the on-line aspect being secondary.

I want whoever is renaming these threads NOT TO STOP.

I'll probably pick this up because a portable is the only place I'd have patience for a game like this.

Could the change in topic be any more random :lol

I can't wait for this game! But I don't know about the online thing.. people coming and going at will. Chopping down my trees *cough* NOVERY! *cough*. Is there any word on, if they will be adding anymore old NES games in it?

Whoever is re-naming these threads is a-ok with me!

And no, I won't be getting Animal Crossing DS. Because I'm not getting a DS, I've decided. I don't need a portable gaming system.

Absolutely. Said before, say it again: I'm buying two DSes when AC comes out.

The biggest advantage to a DS version is that you can use the stylus to type letters and make clothing designs. "Typing" with the D-pad sucked.

I don't really want to buy a DS, but if Nintendo doesn't announce a new Animal Crossing for the GameCube or Revolution, I'm probably going to have to.

That just about sums it up. The DS was made for Animal Crossing. My recent sentiments about the DS is basically that it's lost its novelty on me. Although it's been said before, it bears repeating - Online, please! Full online capability is the sort of zenith that I hope all of Nintendo gaming has been trying to reach til now. Connectivity and multi-tiered gaming experiences are great and all but nothing if Nintendo can't get their asses online.

Nintendo (especially the Gamecube) always makes me think of when Homer said, "The internet? Is that thing still around?"

Bought the GC for this game, will do the same with DS.

I'm oddly more excited about this than what Square has to offer.

This is just fantasizing, but what if the police actually did something in the new game? If someone wandered in and started vandalizing, the police might go after them, and either kick them out of town, arrest them and hold them in a cell, or fine them?

Or maybe you just wouldn't be allowed to take your axe on the train. I mean, given recent travel restrictions, it's not unlikely... :P

this sounds like its straight from gamefaqs

Yeah, I will most likely get it, it looks like it's different than the cube version. And the game will work better on a portable anyways.

Animal Crossing and Pokemon DS online will never work because with small kids online comes the inevitable pedophiles who have got their DS to lure kids into their "village".

If you think the man in the white van with candy/puppy was scary, imagine some pervert who can talk to kids around the world with no parental supervision.

Actually I bet the whole pedophile issue is the main reason the DS is not online. Nintendo has to figure out some way to protect kids and ensure that nobody abuses the system for what appears to be free online gaming. I imagine that AC online would consist of 1/3 little kids, 1/3 pedophiles, and 1/3 overweight virgins.

The only way I see this working is if there is no chat option. Only pre-determined actions and questions. IE Do you want to pick 4 apples fore me --> yes/no. Which makes it as lame as RE Outbreak or Animal Crossing on GC. If you have chat then you have chaos. IE Do you want to pick 4 apples for me --> [Insert profanity laced sarcasm]

see, now, I find the above to be much more gamefaq-ish or futami-esque. but to each their own. and hells yes I will be getting Animal Crossing DS, online (hopefully!) or not.

Pokemon Online would never work because pedophiles would use it as a tool to lure children? You're an idiot.

That's why candy, comic books and pictures of naked ladies were banned in 1983.
