Why can't I hate Tim Duncan?

I've watched him gut my team two times in a row. Absolutely nut in their faces. But the he acts like a scared little kid, and actually held an injured opponent up during a blowout win.

Anyway who are the athlete who burn your teams on the regular, but you can't help but like them?

For me

1. As stated above: Timmy.

2. Daunte Culpepper. He has NEVER lost to the Lions even once. He's a tough guy, decent guy. Funny enough everytime we play the Packers I'd like to see Favre snapped in two. Complete opposite of that Randy dickhead.

3. Terrell Owens. He might be my favorite non Detroit athlete. Yes he does assholish things, but damnit he has STYLE. Rubbing your ass on a goalpost is just stupid. The Cleveland incident, dance right in front of Ray-Ray, the TORTURE of Cowboy fans. This guy is awesome.

i never understood that. hating a player for beating your team. give props and move on. and get mad at your team.
I always said as a sports fan wins/losses coudn't affect my mood. This last week proved me wrong. Up by 2, eight minutes later down by 15. Cut a 20 point lead to 10, go on a 15 point blitz, get it to within 8 with 5 minutes to go give up 12 straight. I went to bed in a nasty mood. These Finals have pissed me off in a way sports never has.

Tim Duncan is one of the most boring players in the NBA and I can't stand the Spurs, but I'll be damned if he isn't the classiest guy in the league. He deserves all the credit he gets in a league full of ballhogs and wannabe thugs.

geez, i used to get MEGA-pissed whenever thet yanks would lose in adumb fashion. i remneber when they lost in 1997 in the playoffs to cleveland. i punched a hole in the wall i was so mad. and in 1995(don mattingly's last year) i got depressed too. oddly enough when they lost to arizona in 2001 and last year to boston, it didnt hurt that much. 2001 hurt a good deal though. but i've learned to kinda not get as attached but still care.

100% true. Amen to that.

but i'm one of the few who enjoy watching Duncan. I've said this a ton of times in the NBA thread, but I like watching him hit his jumpers off the glass as much as I like seeing a jaw-dropping move from T-Mac or Kobe.
Plus, Duncan is fucking clutch. I'm not sure if there's anyone else I'd rather have in the NBA taking a final shot.

for me, it's Favre. Fuck him and all the slurping he gets.

Agreed. And I will never forgive the FOX production crew for missing what was the best part of that whole scene:

Right after the dance, he's running back to the bench, jogs past Ray Lewis and stared him DEAD IN THE EYE. Didn't say a word. When I saw it, I thought it was some random player, but then I TiVo'd it back, watched it again in slow motion, sure enough, it's Lewis. I went back to live TV, just hoping someone on the production team, or the announcers or SOMEBODY had picked up on it, because it was an awesome moment. That was when T.O. earned my respect. Not only did he do that dance, but he didn't run from the guy he was mocking. Randy Moss would have run the other way.

But alas, the FOX team missed it, probably to talk about Brett Favre some more, even though he, technically, wasn't even on the field.

As an outside observer of the sport, Tim Duncan isn't some ghetto fabulous pimp rockstar thug etc NBA playboy. He also doesn't run around crying on the court when a call goes against him. Hell, remember that sixth foul he was called for when they were playing... I think the team before Phoenix? The one where he literally didn't touch the guy? All he did was smile, and it wasn't even a CONDESCENDING smile, it was a, "haha, oh man, I can't believe I'm out of the game for nothing, that's pretty funny".

And you know what else he did? He gathered around his teammates in a quick huddle to pep them up, tell them not to think about the foul, and motivate them.

He's just an awesome sportsman.

And on the COMPLETE opposite side of that, see: Every single player on the Detroit Pistons, including Larry Brown

I've worn my Duncan jersey the last couple years with pride...just an awesome player.

The athlete I hate the most is probably Man United's Van Nistlerooy...can't stand the little germ.
