Why do people hate Cam Newton?

It wasn't because he got paid in college, it was because his dad was farming out his recruitment to the highest bidder. The NCAA actually created the "Cecil Newton rule" to count parents as agents. It was a loophole that Cam and his dad helped to close.

Cam was playing the card the whole time like he didn't know that his dad was shopping him around to Miss State and Auburn. JLawokaygif

Mark Richt has lost control of NCAA regulations!

I've hated Cam since he took money at Auburn, and gave that shit-eating grin like he knew he wasn't gonna get caught. Anyway I'm still annoyed that he got away with it.

LOL.

If I have a son that ends up a five star recruit I want him to get paid by boosters or whoever, I don't care if it costs the school banners or titles, he deserves to be paid for his talent.

Has nothing to do with him being black. I think the NFL should encourage their players to be more emotive in general. I think the "infamous" Richard Sherman interview was one of my favorite NFL moments ever.

You must really hate USC then....

no you dont get it. the hate is because he smiled and was happy that he had gotten money. why should you be happy that your parent got you some money for making the school many more monies. you should be humble and only be happy that your giving the ncaa free labor

He seems to play hard, has fun on the field and is very talented. I do cringe at the hits he takes or when he does a flip but how can anyone hate the guy?

It always make me smile when I see him giving the football away.

I have some idiot on my FB feed saying Cam Newton's dance is based off of some dab drug dance or something and how he's corrupting children.

Always giving it to kids surrounded by those grabby adults. I like this.

I was legit worried about this when it looked like we might go undefeated.... Take his guaranteed money and marketing potential to do something that doesn't involve head injuries. He would have already accomplished literally everything a football player can in a career.

But then they lost to the Falcons? I guess everyone has a bad game some time.

I think Cam will win at least 5 Super Bowls by the time he retires. Prove me wrong.

It's much harder to repeat in the NFL due to cap and generally more cohesive team game.

In the NBA, you have 2 or 3 superstars and you're a contender for a long time.

In the NFL, if your offensive line gets injured--see NE--it could limit a SB run.

Cam could have an MVP year next year, but what if his secondary underperforms?

Repeating in the NFL much less winning 5 in a career is pretty much unheard of in this league.

Still, I do think its possible, but Cam will need a lot help from his GM, coaches, and teammates.

I think there's also the problem that with Quarterbacks playing as physical a game as Newton might not have the longevity of older Quarterbacks.

I love Newton. Every team in the league (except for Green Bay) would straight up trade their QB for him. He's always had the raw talent, but this year everything synced up.

It's funny watching all the highlights of his they've been airing lately from his high school and college days. The main thing that sticks out is how so much his game was already there from the start. The narrative that he was just this raw athlete coming into the NFL was never really the case, and the main thing that's changed is the team around him got better. Other than that just the usual progression from now having 5 years of experience competing against NFL defenses. He does the exact same things he's always done, just better at doing the right thing at the right time..

Sure the so-called "intangibles" are there, but Cam's transition from a read-option QB to a pocket QB is a big deal. That doesn't come from simply 5 years in the league. That is a fundamental shift in one's style of play.

I was going to post that it was more about the show boating than anything..

...then I read that guy's post about hating him ever since he was accused of rape and now I'm actually convinced it's a race thing.

I dont' know. I think I'd take Russell Wilson over Cam Newton. Name me a strength that Cam is better at than him.

He's always been a "pocket QB", or rather he's always been a good passer from the pocket. Actually, neither of those labels adequately describe his game, he's basically a perfect wildcat QB. A explosive athlete running the ball who can also make every single throw.

I don't know. There is something about his demeaner I notice on the field when he plays. Probably cocky I guess.

That said, I don't hate him or cheer against him. I just don't root for him.

And... I probably won't warm on him after that lack of effort. Not to pile on but seriously that was just bad. I don't care what sport it is. You always make an effort for your team. I feel the same way about players that won't dive for balls in baseball and always just let them drop in front of them. No effort and I don't like you as a player.

felt really great to watch cam get destroyed tonight. THIS was a good night. if anything, while they did make it to the superbowl. I am just happy that it all just ended there rather than them winning

Cam's an awesome guy.

Yeah he seems like it off the field. I mean I do like how he is with fans and especially kids even when the games are going. But yeah. I don't know. Just comes across as cocky and I don't like any player like that who thinks their shit don't smell. My impression anyway lol. But just an impression. I don't watch many Panthers games so maybe it's a bad one.
