Why doesn't Nintendo make more Metroid games for GBA?

The two (or three if you count the re-released Metroid) games on the GBA are so damn fun. IMO, the best games on the system. I fricking love the exploring and leveling up. There just isn't really any other games like them out there for the system.

I know they're coming out with Hunters, but its mainly multiplayer only and its supposed to suck.

I also know the timeline is important, but there are always ways around that. They can't cost that much to make or take that long to develop. It just seems like they are missing a huge opportunity here.

What were the sales numbers for the three games?

I dunno why I haven't been too fond of the new GBA Metroids. I've gone through Metroid 3 probably a dozen times yet I've only beaten the GBA ones once. It doesn't have to do with a handheld though cause I beat Metroid II a couple of times as well. Odd.

He asked about GBA. They could prob get away with releasing Dread and Hunters at the same time if Dread were on GBA.

Oh, how Nofriendo would guarantee themselves a DS purchase if the phrase "Super Metroid Remake" ever escaped their lips. Still, how does one improve on perfection? The answer may very well be: "By sticking a map on top!" :) And I'd buy it in less than a heartbeat any damn way...

I still want that GBA Super Metroid port that NOA promised us back in 2001. Same for Pokemon Puzzle League and Yoshi's Story.

Metroid DS in 2D would be AWESOME!~
Seems that everyone forgot about Nintendo (Intelligent Systems?) making a 2D Metroid for the DS. They talked about it one month before E3 2005. I hope to hear more info this August!

# of metroid games on NES: 1
# of Metroid games on SNES: 1
# of Metroid games on original GB: 1

# of Metroid games on GBA: 2
# of Metroid games on GC: 2
# of Metroid games coming to DS: 2 (3 if you count Pinball)

We've had twice as many new Metroids in a span of 4 years than was released in the 15+ years prior. And you act like Nintendo is holding out on us? Cracka please.

SWEET!

Yep. There's enough sequels and remake in this world already. And Metroid Dread is coming. This thread is the uselessness incarnate.

Can't wait for Dread. Will finally have a new 2D Metroid with that will have better quality audio than Super Metroid.

In the past four years, Nintendo has released three Game Boy Advance Metroid games, two GameCube Metroid games--three if the Metroid minigame in Super Smash Bros. Melee counts, has announced three DS and one Revolution Metroid games, and included a demo of one of those DS Metroid games with the DS.

Any more would lead to overexposure.

1) Nintendo figures 2 Metroid games for one system is enough.

2) Metroid isn't THAT big a seller to warrant a third for the GBA.

3) GBA development is dwindling and shifting over to the DS(Which does have a rumored, new 2D Metroid in development

4) Don't wanna milk Samus into the ground with Metroid Dredd, Prime 2, Pinball, and Hunters all being released within 2 years of each other.

That's all I want out of a Super Metroid DS, too. Anything else added on top of that would be icing. :)

How lengthy is this minigame?

40 seconds.

I'm all for "whoring" the Metroid franchise. Not so sure about Hunters but as of right now there hasn't been a bad Metroid game yet and is one of the most respectable franchises ever.

If only Mega Man could have been like that too :(

Not defending hunters or anything, but wasn't the dev team talking about th lengthy single player they were adding?

Why doesn't Nintendo make Tetris Attack/Pokémon Puzzle League/Panel De Pon for GBA???

Didn't Nintendo Puzzle Collection (Japan-only for some unknown reason) let you download Panel De Pon to your GBA?

Yeah, a single player-only and endless mode-only version of the game. No two player, no VS. story mode, no line clear mode... only endless. And I'm not about to import a Japanese game to get it. Release the whole full game in North America, Nintendo!

I'm not very fond of Fusion but I think that Zero Mission, despite a rather short lifespan, is among the best 5 for GBA.

Really a must have, and those whom keep saying it is just a remake, just don't understand a fuck about games.

man I'm angry at myself for missing the Zero Mission boat I can't find that game anywhere, Fusion was amazing I really liked that game sure is not on Super Metroid levels but it was very enjoyable.

Hunters was cool and dandy till they say it was not online compatible, Pinball is looking interesting to say the least and although nothing has been said about Dread apart from a rumor I hope it does come out can't wait for a new 2d Metroid.

Zero Mission>>>>>Fusion. Fusion is good in its own quirky way. You MUST find Zero Mission. My favorite GBA game by a country mile.

Well yeah, Prime Hunters might suck fucking ass.

(Only horrible X game was X7.. maybe X6 if you wanna go that way too.)

The X series has been fine, there isnt a title that is total garbage that I have played. But "Battle Network", "Legends", and some of the later NES titles arent very good at all.

I don't get it, did anyone else actually play the latest build of Hunters?

I thought it was great.
Smooth, quick, great control.

One of my favorite DS games at the show, I played it over and over.
Yes, the lack of online is pissing the hell out of me - but that itself doesn't make the content of the game suck.

I'd like a remake of Metroid 2 so I could finally play it. It's a bit too plain and monochrome to be navigated, but I'd like to see that part of the story fit in with the rest.

I'm really looking forward to Dread, hoping that it will really be Metroid 5. Even Fusion, which I just recently bothered to finish, is a great game, although with some silly control issues now and then. Zero Mission showed that they can pretty much make an equal to Super Metroid. If Dread improves on ZM like ZM improved on Fusion... :D

the gba titles have bastardized the series imo. They are 3 hours long and tell you exactly where to go, does this offend any other metroid fan?

None of the 2-d ones are really THAT long to begin with the first time through, it seems with most people. Fusion offends more because Adam tells you where to go and you 99% of the time have to go where it says.

In ZM, it isn't as "offensive" because 1-you can still go out of order and can play it so only the very first statue is all that tells you what to do, and 2-it's a remake of the first game; many people already knew where to go to begin with.

Link? I never saw them "talk about it;" I think it made it onto GI's pre-E3 list and was apparently pulled just before the show, but I don't believe it was ever confirmed.

Also: so is Ninja wrong this time?

Hey now, I'm probably one of the biggest Mega Man fans on these boards and even I'll admit X7 was a steaming pile of crap. You really think the later NES games were worse? :O

If I were to comment at all on the franchise management of Metroid vs Mega Man, then I'd say that Legends was one of the best moves they made with Mega Man and they should have taken it further. Look at where Metroid Prime took the Metroid franchise. Instead, they went back to playing it safe and milking genres they already knew they could handle (Mega Man -> Mega Man X -> Mega Man Zero), while ripping off the safe Pokemon collectathon approach with Battle Network. If Mega Man had been half as daring as Metroid, it wouldn't be as B-rated as it is now.
