Why hasn't there been a Lacrosse game?

djtiesto

is beloved, despite what anyone might say
I don't know what its like by you guys, but around here, Lacrosse is very popular with HS/College kids... every other SUV I see has an "LAX" sticker on the back of it. So, why hasn't there been *ONE* Lacrosse game ever? Hell, there's even a Polo game! (for the 2600). I'm really surprised that EA or anybody else hasn't done one, I think it would sell fairly decently.

I believe EA does to Lacrosse games... I just don't think they've been released in the US?

"I believe EA does to Lacrosse games... I just don't think they've been released in the US?"

Wait till they buy the sport first....they're just waiting until they're positive they'll have no competition.

In Japan there was some of those real cheapo games released which had Table tennis with half-arsed Dead or Alive-esque babes :lol

I think it was being released in the US...

Because people dont find it that interesting enough in real life for it to be well known. This where many video game markets are so people dont make it because it wont produce the income which is the purpose of making a video game/product. They arent going to make a game out of principle.

No, EA does not do lacrosse games, and if they did they would certainly be released in the North American market before anywhere else, seeing as it is an American game (although there are pockets of interest elsewhere). The lacrosse world cup is routinely passed between Canadian and US teams.

As for why there's no lacrosse video game, while it didn't help that Blast Lacrosse sucked ass, it's probably more due to the fact that lacrosse's popularity, while on the rise, still is too low to ensure strong enough sales to warrant development.

There has never been a handball game either, even that`s a much more popular sport worldwide. Olympic sport even.

Lacrosse isn`t played outside america I believe.

That'd be D3's Love Ping Pong, ingeniously christened Pink Pong for the europan release.

There's also the quite playable "Ikuze! Onsen Takkyuu!!" from Psikyo.

Hey, now... just because we beat the shit outta Australia, England, Japan, Germany, Sweden, Ireland, South Korea, New Zealand, etc... all the time doesn't mean they don't play ;)

Back home in LA, some people have never even heard of lacrosse. Coming to college, it was pretty weird to see that everybody's such a big fan. (I go to Johns Hopkins, consistently the #1 team in the country ;))

Lacrosse is a mfing awesome sport. There was a lacrosse game done on the PSX, but besides that I don't know of any other.

It would for an awesome videogame too!

Does EA do a Rugby game? Maybe that's what I'm thinking of....

Sweden? Must be the smallest sport in existance there then. I guarantee you 99.9% of Swedes have propably never even heard of the sport.

Hey now look at that! That is... something, sorta. That last link says not to buy the old one and instead support the new one. I wonder how it plays. Seriously though, a disc golf game should be just as fun as a regular golf game - like say, Hots Shots Golf - as long as the physics were top notch.

Better than that would be some fruity overtones of some sort like Monkey Ball.

BTW your username could describe an unfortunate Disc Golf accident. or minigame.

Blast lacrosse for ps1 thats about it and I for one believe that thier needs to be a lax game cause well the sport rocks and it needs to be recognized more. Plus a game like lax is fast paced and alot of fun perfect for video games.

Yet again for those who missed it in the Gameinformer (I think it was posted here)

------------------

As EA sports' NCAA Football 2006 was the only college football game on the market last year, this exclusive isn't as damaging to its competitors as when the company obtained the NFL license. It is this vacuum that actually led the NCAA to EA's door. We contacted THe Collegiate Licensing Company's CEO, Pat Battle, who told us that EA's commitment to college football made the decision easy. "We went to EA and said, 'Look, you guys have done a great job in building NCAA Football into one of the top sports titles in the country, and we want to make sure that you are committed to continuing to build and invest in theis being one of the best games in North America'". From here, the NCAA began talking exclusivity.

Interestingly, Battle said that other companies were marginally involved in the decision. "one of the companies said, 'We don't know,' and the other comapany said, 'We plan to get back into it, but it'll be at least '07 until we have a college football game.' Once we heard that, we didn't engage them in conversations on an exclusive, because they had not been committed enough to warrant that discussion." This revelation brings up the question: Who was planniong on re-entering the college football market in '07? Game INformer contacted EA sports competitors Visual Concepts, Sony and Ubisoft, but none of the companies would discuss the matter. However, a source told us that it was likely that Visual Conceps was the company Battle described as unsure of their plans, while Sony was working on a return to college footballin 2007. Perhaps it was eyeing 2007 to coincide with the PS3. This is moot, however, as Sony has annonced its return to football with a non-licensed, fictional pigskin product entitled Road to Sunday.

Is college hoops going exclusive? We asked CLC CEO Battle, but he didn't think so. "My sense at this time is that that won't be exclusive." HOwever, Battled did reveal that other collegiate sports are now being eyed by unnamed companies. "We are in active discussions with several companies about three different sports. We're talking about baseball-we're pretty far along in those discussions and we're excited aboiut that. And also lacrosse and hockey. Based on the nature of the discussions so far, I expect that we would be announcing something fairly shortly on that."

I live in Texas where Lacrosse is limited to rec leagues, mainly at colleges. Plenty of people care about the game, they just do not post here. The GAF is not exactly a Mecca for sports gamers. Sometimes you have to broaden your horizons. I was not a big soccer fan until WE7 came out for the PS2. Now I keep up with the Premiership and watched most of the UEFA CL.

If you missed (and I am sure you did) the Johns Hopkins/Virginia Semifinals last month was one of the most exciting games played in any sport this year. Yea it might not sell well but I would definately buy a couple of copies no matter who decides to publish it.

agreed, we need a Lacrosse game

mabey a Canadian company will jump on it someday, I'm pretty sure it's our summer national sport.

Man, Lacrosse in general needs a bigger fanbase.

Lacrosse is Canada's national sport. Odd, considering that Hockey is the more popular, more played and Canada is a hockey player breeding ground.

Might have to do with Lacrosse being played longer than Hockey in Canada ;)

How big is college lacrosse in Canada? Do they have something similar to what they NCAA does here? ESPN televises the semis and the finals. I figure with ESPN U we will get more coverage, plus you can catch it on the Northeastern Fox channel from time to time.

I think college is the best place to start. Most people have no clue about professional lacrosse (indoor or outdoor). With college teams you have some familiarity, especially at the schools where lacrosse is played.

Whoever gets it should be knocking on Jim Browns door to get him on the cover. He would be the best publicity-wise for the sport since most people could not name another lacrosse player. I doubt most people even know that he was an All-American at Syracuse in both football and lacrosse. This would also appeal to the African American community.

Ugh... don't remind me about that game... my tape ran out just as the teams were heading back on the field after the rain delay. Oh well, I still got to see my team win it all on Monday.

I am still amazed he was able to get a shot off with a second left after winning the faceoff then dropping the ball.
