Why I like the PSP

Here's a little bit on why my PSP is getting lots of game-time from me these days. A list of reasons why PSP rocks.

1) Number one reason: the library is terrific. Forget what you've heard, if you haven't decided firsthand, but there are a lot of great games available RIGHT NOW. For example:

Wipeout Pure -- the latest Wipeout, and the best since the first one (which only gets that status for being the first, and completely fresh). It's got a ton of tracks and ships-- and when you're done with those, there are even more to download. If I am counting right, there ought to be around 24 tracks when all is said and done. A whole bunch of modes and skill levels, as well.

Lumines -- addictive and pretty. More need to be said? No, it's not the next Tetris, but the fact that people even tik that way should tell you something.

Ridge Racer -- I've never been a huge fan of the series, but the rave reviews got me to try it, and I was hooked.

Namco Museum -- the best classics compliation on a handheld ever.

Darkstalkers -- console quality 2D fighter with beautiful art

Untold Legends -- console quality dungeon crawler (in terms of both graphics and length) with wireless play!

Shortly, there will be a bunch more, with Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories leading my list of must-haves.

2) That gorgeous screen. Not just for games, but for the ancillary use as a photo-viewer and movie viewer. Best screen on any portable device I've ever seen smaller than a laptop (and better than lots of those, too).

3) Speaking of which, it's a movie and photo viewer. Awesome bonus.

4) Homebrew. I love to play around with little free stuff. I love emulating systems I have in the closest (and not just the NES, SNES, Genesis and Gameboy, but things like the Amiga and Atari ST as well). I love taking my games and putting them on memory stick so they have no load times, and so I don't carry around a bunch of UMDs.

5) WiFi. Within 10 miutes of arriving home with my PSP, I was on the internet playing Twisted Metal (another great game) with a few people.

Vent mount? I used one of those to mount my PDA to use it for GPS.

And not to troll, but there are plenty of PDAs with screens that are just as good as the PSP. Of course none of them can play the games that the PSP can play either, but if you want something for movies, internet browsing, etc. in a portable a nice PDA is probably the way to go. If you want complext 3D games in addition then you have to go with the PSP obviously.

Haha. It's the back of my block where all of our garages are. I don't park my car on the street. :p

I do like the idea of that pic being a car chase a'la Transporter. :P

Darien: My PSP is mounted directly to my headunit via aux. It's great because I can watch videos and listen to MP3s, and other things. It gets a ton of attention too.

Not that they don't exist, but I've never seen a PDA screen as nice as the PSP. Except maybe Sony's high-end ones. Most don't have the brightness, clarity and resolution of the PSP.

Did you ever see the screen of a Aximx50v or any of the other VGA PDAs? They look just as nice as the PSP.
