why in god's name is mario party 5 STILL $50?

have u ever gotten together with 3 friends and played these games? Have u actually played these games? Do you have 3 friends? If you answer yes to all of these then u would understand why this game is THAT DAMN GOOD.

Realize that some games are made for strictly multiplayer, so if u aren't into playing those kinda games with people other than urself then it's best to stay away from them.

I've seen some unfair comparisons with Mario Party and the likes of Madden/NBA Live/etc. It's not like that. A closer comparison I think are the Dance Dance/Karaoke Revolution games. We're talking about party games that each have a different selection of things to do. When you get Mario Party 6 or Dance Dance Extreme, if you like it, you can go back and get Mario Party 4 or Dance Dance Max and throw a party and it'll be brand new happy fun time all over again.

but whats the best mario party game?

I havent played 1 since ....mario party 1

do they still have the good mini games from past games, and hidden stuff?

Mp2 > Mp5 > MP1 > MP4 > MP3

Actually, the first game can be shifted about in there; I'm not really sure where to list it. Mario Party 2 is still the best in the series, though.

jesus christ, you've played them all?

I've only played it for one night of course, but from my initial couple of 25-turn games (and some single player action) I'd put it like this:

MP1 > MP6 > MP5 > MP2 > MP4 > MP3

I still think the original is unmatched in many ways, but so far MP6 is proving to be very nice and has quite a few new ideas thrown in. For example, we just played on a board where there are no star-buying spaces. Rather, you all start with 5 stars, and the only way to steal them from each other is to buy a ride on Chain Chomps that're scattered around the board and run over your opponents. To mix things up more, the paths you can take to avoid the line-of-Chain-Chomp-fire areas are blocked off for 3 turns every 3 turns, when the board turns to night, which forces you to get near them. It's a constant battle to get behind the other players and take them out.

Another interesting thing - the "had the most coins at any given time" star normally awarded at the end of the game is gone now, and has been replaced by a "used the most items" star. Kinda cool, it encourages you to really go nuts with the items.

These are just a couple of things off the top of my head, but there really are a lot of changes to the usual formula mixed in this time. Some subtle, some pretty huge. The mini-games are some of the best yet, also. I don't know what happened for a while there, but 5 and 6 have really come back in full force with possibly the best mini-games in the series. Still no old-skool analog twirling games, though, and only 6 maps (this includes the unlockable one) compared to MP1's 8 maps. Boo!

Yeah. I have lots of younger siblings, and this is a great family party game. Now, if you have no friends nor family, I can see why you might never have touched the series.

I still think that MP2 was a better constructed game than MP5 or any of the others in the series.
* MP2 featured multiplayer games with coin totals that could go far above the "20 Coin Standard" used in most of the newer games.
* MP2 seemed to feature more skill based games and fewer luck based ones.
* The 2 Player Duel feature seemed better implemented in MP2; you could battle other players on a more frequent basis, and risk more.
* Costumes.

Have plenty of friends, plus my two roommates and two of my neighbors game together at least 3 or 4 times a week. Mario Party 5 has been tried. We all agreed that it sucked dick.

Mario Party is a shit ass series, quite possibly one of the worst franchises ever concieved. Its Nintendo's mental masterbation pushed upon its fans, children, and casual gamers who don't want any real gaming involved, all of whom are too simple minded to know that it sucks, they just like seeing Mario and co. doing anything.

You want to play a board game? Stroll down to Wal-Mart and buy a $10 copy of Risk or Monopoly, it'll be a hell of a lot more enjoyable and won't be a waste of electricity.

Nothing in 5 matched Dungeon Duos from the 4th game. Although Pushy Penguins was a very nice new game.

1. There are better multiplayer games on the GC.

2. There are better things to do with friends/family than play anything on GC, let alone Mario Party.

imagine that.. sociable people that voluntarily decide not to touch a series that became stale 3 sequels ago!!

Same reasons as last year. Knock down the price of Mario Party (Previous Year) by $20 or $30, and totally eat into sales of Mario Party (This Year). Next year there will be a thread asking why Mario Party 6 hasn't dropped in price yet.
