$114.00, after a rebate. For 25! Ridiculous. You can get a dual layer DVD burner for a cheaper price (like the latest NEC, Lite-On and Pioneer drives, only $45-50). When I got my first DVD burner, a 50 pack of single layer media was $100 (this was in December of '03).

Would you spend $114 for those? I wouldn't. Amazing that some DVD+R DL media costs more than an actual DL drive. :lol

Not really. Couldn't some old DVD+/-RW drives get a firmware upgrade to support dual layer?

Anyways, I agree with you on the 'holy shit why is it so expensive' bit.

Most aren't capabile. I tried flashing my NEC ND-2500A to support DL with some hacked firmware. It could be read with a DVD-ROM drive, but the data would extract very slowly, and when played on a standalone DVD player it just stopped after the fifth or sixth chapter. Yeah, I was dumb enough to spend $14 on a DL disc. NEVER AGAIN.

EDIT: That media is 2.4x as well. So you're looking at roughly 30 minutes a layer. Blah.
