Why is Euro so high, can it go down?

While I was thankful to mister Bush to devaluate the US dollars so I pay way, way less for my goods, I'm still angry when I find out that my loonie is only worth 0.6 euros, time and time again. Thing is, I want to import tons of goods from Europe, mainly Region 2 DVDs in PAL of stuff I could not get otherwise. However, I refrain because it's ludacris-like expensive. And the customs, fees, taxes.

Can I hope for the Euro to go down, especially against the canadian dollar? Why is the exchange rate so high?

HELL NO!!

Be glad for us European folks that we're finally able to import some stuff we could never get due to the high dollar

I am asking for opinions and facts, not hoping you shall pay more for your imported goods. ;)

The reason why it's so high?!

Bush administration (War)

And the EU finally coming into it's own. Hell, even the UK is kicking itself in the head that they didn't want to introduce the Euro back then.

They don't allow it for Canada, nothing but dvds, books and audio products, so I would not bet on it.

and thats why im having it delivered to a friend in the US and he will send it to me!!! ha ha amazon, personal friendships have ensured my PSP will have long high quality (-ish) movies!

now if i could just keep those pesky kids away from my old haunted house in the hills i will be ok.

Amazing about this is that there seems to be no stopping to the rise of the Euro. It's going up and up and up...Another good aspect is that so many currencies are coupled with the US Dollar, so that even indirectly you are profiting from the current situation.

we have to at some stage, usually there is no (real) difference

i remember when the irish pound was stronger than the british pound... oh happy 3 weeks...

High trade deficits, low savings rate, and large federal budget deficits can contribute to the declining dollar. Our insane debt level and increasing trade deficit is making the U.S. economy less attractive to investors. Also, a unified Europe is coming into its own as an economic powerhouse. See Airbus A380, a marvel in European cooperation.

That's as I understand it, but I'm just a layman. Hopefully someone will come in and slap me silly with real hardcore facts.

As far as I understood it Snowcraft and the rest of the Bush administration tried to weaken the Dollar on purpose - but now I guess you can say that he carried this practice to excess. Add to that the facts you mentioned above and you got your currency declining way too fast.

The fact that there's a war isn't what drives the value of the dollar down. It's (probably) in large part due to the fact that the war has been financed by printing currency. In effect, it's the same as financing it through tax, except that the expense is levied from all cash holdings proportionate to their value.

edit:

or rather, the rate of inflation (percentage increase in the money supply) for the US has been high relative to the european union

all I can say is that it's about time, The US might actually be able to export things for a change and get maybe even out the trade deficit, but not the debt.

They certainly did weaken the dollar on purpose in order to make US commodities more export friendly, but given the likely increases to the interest rates the dollar will probably begin to rise.

That's the same thing Canada did what, ten years ago? :lol

I want the US dollar to stay low, as long as all the next-gen consoles and HD video players come out suckas! AND BEYOND! ;)

I paid influated prices and nothing would make my canadian dollars worth anything. It's my turn to pay less! :lol
