Why is Little Red Corvette so good??

I mean, GODDAMN GAF, this song is the best thing ever! Hahaha
I've been listening to it since I was kid, and it's never gotten old. Interestingly enough, it gets better and better as I age. I can appreciate the songs general composition and stuff like that.

Why do YOU think LRC is so good?
I chalk it up to a kick ass chorus, a great mechanical synth-y sound, Prince's sexy voice, and DAT GUITAR!

Also, while we're here, what's your favorite Prince song?? Why do you think it's great?

LRC isn't even the best song on that album.

I prefer 1999. The verses with the different singers singing their lines as if they were in a 3 part harmony, only to have the harmony snap together just before the chorus is one of the greatest things ever.

Prince from Dirty Mind to Sign "O" The Times (1980-1987) could literally do no wrong.
When Doves Cry is his best hit though and as the guy above me said there are better songs on 1999.

LRC isn't even the best song on that album.

I really don't even feel that there is a "best" song on 1999. Almost every track is genius (I'm not too big on Delirious though)
I do believe that LRC is the quintessential Prince song though. It's the track I always recommend to those who are interested in going through his portfolio.

Favorite song is "Do Me Baby" , that song must be responsible for lots of children , pure baby making music. Love me some Prince !

I have an annoying habit of confusing Little Red Corvette with Big Yellow Taxi. Damnable motor-vehicle singles.

Let's Pretend We're Married is the best track from that album.
And Prince sincerely wants to fuck the taste out of your mouth.

My favourite line in that song and the way he sings it 'guuuurrlll you got an asssss like I've neeeverrr seeeen' it's hilarious.

My favourite song of his is electric intercourse, it's unreleased but he played it live recently and I was luckily enough to see it. Nearly died.

Prince can be kind of a big HAM sometimes and I love it! Hahaha
Not too many artist could sell a line like that.

I have to thank Gaf for making me discover Prince like 4 months ago. I'm not the biggest fan of some of his works, Little Red Corvette is an example but "Sign o the Times" and "Purple Rain" are so good! Looking forward to discover other songs! I just listened to Pop Life and wow, it's awesome!

It's always nice to see somebody discover Prince.
He was freakin' huge back in the 80s, but like Micheal Jackson, he fell off the radar pretty hard in the mid-late 90s(For very different reasons, obviously)
I wish he wasn't so against sharing his music on the internet.
A lot of people might rediscover him if he uploaded big hits like "When Doves Cry" and "Little Red Corvette" on YouTube. He should share his genius with a new generation.

It is such a great song.. Played it on the radio the other day and it instantly made my day better.

Too bad Prince is such a douche these days. The man used to make some fine music.

because of that slow synth intro over those subtle percussions. They hint at other sensations. Prince is genius at creating a mental soundscape.

edit: I'm more of a "I would Die 4 You" or a "I Wanna be your lover" type.

"I wanna be your lover" is sooooo goood.
It reminds me of a Sylvester song, and I love me some Sylvester.

A Prince thread with no gifs???

When Doves cry is my favorite though

Everything from Dirty Mind till Sign o The Times I love (wasn't into Controversy though). Batman album and foward is sort of my point of demarcation line where I don't really venture past.

Just put out that box set man, I'm ready for it.

Prince is a timeless legend and one of the greatest pop musicians in the history of the form.

He's also one of the best performers ever, of any era.

I actually like some of his "Artist" songs. "Se7en" and "Peach" specifically.

I think my favorite tracks on "Purple Rain" are the filler tracks (pretty much the ones not released as singles), "Take Me With You," "Computer Blue," and "Baby I'm A Star."

I was going to listen to this all night if we'd beat Belgium yesterday:

Hell, I may listen to it all night tonight.

edit: Gotta say, if you ever visit Vegas, go see the tribute act Purple Reign. Amazing and tickets are pretty cheap. Bonus SPOT ON Morris Day and Jerome set, too.

Can't pick just one:
  1. 1+1+1 is 3 (The Rainbow Children)
  2. Beautiful Strange (Rave In2 The Joy Fantastic)
  3. The Exodus Has Begun (Exodus)
  4. Shhh! (The Gold Experience)
  5. Ripopgodazippa (Crystal Ball)
  6. Fascination (The Truth)
  7. Xogenus (Xpectation)
  8. East (N.E.W.S)
  9. Violet The Organ Grinder (Gett Off Maxi Single)
  10. We Can Funk (Graffiti Bridge)
  11. Live For Love (Diamonds & Pearls)
  12. It (Sign O The Times)
  13. New Position (Parade)
  14. When I Lay My Hands On U (The Chocolate Invasion)
  15. Temptation (Around the World In A Day)
  16. Let's Go Crazy (Special Dance Mix) (Purple Rain)

One other song I'm really fond of is "Jack U Off".
It sounds like what would happen if a really great rock artist from the 1950s had access to 1980s tech...and 1980s morality.

Let's Pretend We're Married is the best track from that album.

Let's Pretend We're Married and D.M.S.R. are my two favorite songs off 1999.

I LOVE the end of Let's Pretend We're Married

Whatever U heard about me is true
I change the rules and do what I wanna do
I'm in love with God, He's the only way
Cuz U and I know we gotta die some day
If U think I'm crazy, U're probably right
But I'm gonna have fun every motherfuckin' night
If U like 2 fight, U're a double-drag fool
I'm goin' to another life. How 'bout you?

Fantastic.

I don't know if I can pick a favorite Prince song. When Doves Cry, Purple Rain, Do It All Night, Let's Pretend We're Married, D.M.S.R., Kiss, and obviously I can't list all of my other favorites. The man is amazing.
