Why would you sell your gamecube (or any system)?

Ok, the system is dead. Even the most optomistic Nintendo loyalist will admit that. And by the time Twilight Princess comes out you can probably rebuy the cube and game for like $100 tops (or play it on Revolution).

But seriously.. the system has probably at least a dozen great games that almost anyone would have a hard time arguing against.. and quite a few more great games for various fans of various genres..

I guess I just never got people who sell game systems. And then a few years later rave because they can play glitchy versions on emulators..

my games and systems I don't have hooked up takes up like a small corner (less than 5x4x4) in the basement and the ones I do have hooked up are a natural fixture of my entertainment center.

I just can't see the $70-150 you get on ebay really being worth getting rid of great gaming (any system, not just gamecube).

Because we need cash? I had to sell off my SNES and Genesis back in the days to get a PSX. This was when I was in highschool and dirt poor. Naturally, I bought all of these systems back once I got some cash flow going.

I am waiting for the backwards compatibility list to come out for X360. If Ninja Gaiden: Black and Chaos Theory are on that list, I will trade my XBOX in.

yeah I sold mine for travel. I'll just rebuy them for the rev when I get one, I do miss it, but once I beat a game, I rarely go back. especially games like zelda. I beat wind waker and will never play through it again. I couldn't get enough friends into smash bros either damnit :(

I barely played it, it just caught off dust. Sometimes my family members played MK:DD on it, but that was it. So I sold it and thanks to the Rev BC I won't ever get one again. I actually played most of the greatest games on the GC (actually more like almost all of them), but then there was barely anything left to buy, so I sold my GC for a PS2.

true BC doesn't count. this I completely understand. I don't have a PSX anymore and will probably sell my XBox and GCN for true BC (waiting on specific info on X360)

More referring to the people who sell both the system and games all at once.

I would never sell a system AND all the games at once UNLESS I had a new system to buy and had played the games to death. And there are always games that transcend generations that always beckon you back for another play.

I sold my PSP because it was literally 3 months since I had even turned it on. I sold it hoping that a price drop wouldn't be too far off and I was able to actually sell it to a Canadian that paid me more for it than I paid myself. Since I didn't lose any money in the deal, and the thing was just sitting in its case on a shelf all the time, I figured I might as well dump the thing until it was cheaper and had a stronger library.

I'd never sell a console at a loss though, that's just silly (especially since you know you'll be coming back for it later).

I sell my systems when I'm done with them. I know I'm never going to play most (if not all) of the games again so why not make a little money and clear out a little space at the same time?

In the case of the Gamecube I sold mine because looking at it kind of made me sad. Funny that a few weeks later I'm playing through Fire Emblem on the GC of one of my roommates but that's a very special exception (Twilight Princess might hurt a little but the Revolution will launch fairly shortly after that game's release). After I'm done (tonight) I'll be back to being very happy it's out of my sight.

I did the same thing recently and got $200 of the $250 I spent in March back. Considering I took my PSP on a few trips and used it a lot, I would say I got more than $50 worth of entertainment.

The only console I've ever sold was my xbox, and I just did it because the guy would give me 350 euros for it (xbox + 3 controllers + 12 games). For that money I could buy a brand new xbox with the best I liked best.. at least that was the plan. But then DS and PSP got released

if it was just a question of gamecube games, i wouldn't hesitate to sell it -- there are only so many video inputs on my tvs, and there are no exclusive gc games i'm likely to revisit. but the gamecube happens to play gba games, some of which are just better with a big screen and a hori pad. i'll keep my cube in that capacity.

I have never sold a system, except for a broken Gamecube. I will freely resell/trade in games, even good ones, but I have never sold a system. The GC is worth keeping for Ikaruga, Eternal Darkness, and RE4 alone.

Id rather sell something that Im not using and buy something that I will enjoy. Im not talking about GC though, Im still enjoying that :D . The only console I have ever sold was my N64, but I regret it now...

I still have all the systems I have owned, sparing my poor Intellivision and Texas Instruments Family Computer which my mother sold at a Garage Sale without my knowledge. Pity. I still play things on the old Master System when I want to dust it off, even BC with the PS2 I still can only play imports on the PS1 so even with the identical controllers I like to keep the old systems.

Lack of space (+ a good deal).

Is why I've sold systems in the past. And just a feeling of wanting to streamline my gaming setup. I'm not selling any of the current gen consoles until they can be replaced with next-gen BC ones. The Xbox is modded and therefore not going anywhere.

The GC has a ton of games I still haven't played that I'll be able to pick up for next to nothing in the coming year.

I'd never sell any system I own. Still got my original Game Boy (the first game system I owned) floating around somewhere.

Is this a trick question? So I can make a thread about it on GA. Then make another thread about it on GA when I re-buy it, and another one the week after when I sell it again to buy an XBox 360 game.

when i was a teenager i used to sell everything system for the cash to upgrade to the next one. my vic 20, bbc b, c64 and amiga, i really regret it now.

i enjoy keeping my old systems, it's good to get them out occasionally for the nostalgia. they're like songs, they transport me back to what was happening in my life at the time.

The only real reasons to sell a system are:
-Personal: You don't care about gaming anymore and just want to get rid of it.
-Financial: You need money for X and selling the system will get you just that.

There's of course the argument that you're selling the system in order to upgrade to the next-gen system from the same manufacturer, but that'd obviously still fall into "financial reason". In which case backwards compatibility becomes important if you plan to keep the games.

Neither reason applies to me since I'd never part with any of my older systems (pre current gen). As for the current gen.. My DC isn't going anywhere. I'd never part with my GC since the system is modded and I can't play import games, of which I own quite a few, on the Revolution (yet heh). I'd never part with my Xbox because of the game saves (non-transferrable to 360) but more importantly I have a lot of media saved on the HDD a lot of which can't be replaced.

As for the initial post re: the selling of the GC. The Rev is supposed to be fully bc as far as we know. GC games work, GC saves work, GC controllers compatible (plus the shell controller issue). So unless you're like myself and need to be able to play imported games... There is no real reason to keep the GC.

If you don't mind waiting for Rev release to play upcoming or past GC games sell the system now to maximize your profit. Plus you'll be saving money since the GC games should all drop in price by the time the Rev is released.

Oh, I almost forgot. I traded in the GBA that I bought from Alphasnake. It was pennies on the dollar, but the battery cover was so loose that I couldn't stand to play it. :lol

I sold my GC right before the $99 price drop, with the intention of buying one later at $50 or so. I'm not sure if I'll buy it again now, but I do want to eventually open up that copy of Wind Waker that's been sitting on my top bunk collecting dust for years now...

I sold my NES to buy a SNES, but this was back when I was 10.

I also sold my GBA for money towards an SP, but that's a logical move since its like upgrading.

Bottomline, no real video game fan would sell a console.

(unless it was PS1->PS2->PS3, since each PS system is backwards compatible)

I rarely play my Gamecube anymore, but I'm notselling it. I will wait for Zelda. Besides, my brothers still play SSBM and MK all the time.

Perrin Kaplan said Nintendo has some Gamecube suprises ready for 2006, and I can't wait.

MARIO LACROSS GET!

For money to buy a better system that has more games.

I will sell the GC eventually or just give it away to someone - or hand it down to my kid possibly.

I bought a CG with Metroid Prime and Zelda: MM but then sold it after i lost interest in the games a few months later. I'm also going to sell my PSTwo after i finish RE4 (providing it keeps me interested).

I've owned every system ever made, but don't keep the around after they've exhausted their life span. I also take into account the respective console's upcoming library of games in the immediate future, and if nothing catches my eye i get rid of it. After i sell my PSTwo i'll only have an Xbox left, then if the 360 plays the Xbox game i'm keeping i'll dump the box as well.

Because unlike certain systems the Gamecube won't maintain any kind of value (mainly because they're dirt-cheap to buy anyway), so I might as well get rid of it before Nintendo puts the MRRP to $50.

My house is full of useless shit, I do not use my ancient stuff and plus I am 30+ years old. So that's why.

Also, collecting is a genetic defect. If you have a desk covered in blister-packed action figures, you're just one paycheck away from being one of those homeless guys with three shopping carts full of crap.

I'm trading my Xbox in tonight. I'm preparing for the 360 release, and i'll use the credit towards games for that system. I don't tend to keep a huge library of games around. I generally have two or three at any given time, and when I'm done with them, I trade them in for something new. Same with a system. The Xbox is done, for me, so it's time to part ways and prepare for the next generation.

I sold my SNES to raise money, and I never played it (due to the inconvenience), whereas emulators are more convenient.

I sold my Playstation to raise money, since I had a PS2, and the few imports I had I never expected to really want to play again.

I sold my Dreamcast to raise cash. Not much I wanted to play on it.

The above three were all sold at a garage sale to raise cash for a trip to Italy for my wife-- we raised a ton of cash, so it was a good deal. Also got rid of a lot of clutter.

I traded in my Sega CDX for Playstation cash

I traded my Saturn for a Vectrex, which I still have

I sold my first N64 becuase I could sell it for what I paid for it, and after I was sick of Mario64, there wasn't anything I wanted to play coming for months.

I sold my second one once I had played enough of Goldeneye (excellent) and Wipeout64 (not so excellent). I haven't even gone back for N64 emulators, I had no further interest in the system.

I've traded in several models of Gameboy, often to get the latest one, but sometimes have gone without one at all. I still have a GBA and a GBA-SP, I'll probably keep the GBA-SP forever, since it playes everthign on back, is a great physical design, and there will always be some nagging feeling that there's some GB game I want to play.

I've traded in *two* Game Gears, once I ran out of current games I wanted to play. The first early in its life, after playing enough Sonic and the other could of games I liked, and the second after coming to the realization that most of the library was not to my liking. I never missed it.

:lol

Every line in this post applies to me. That *is* why I get rid of stuff, and my desk is collection free, but I certainly have the defect!

You kill me Stinkles. I feel like an old fart on here.

I agree with your post as well. Moving really helps cut down on useless shit because you are forced to evaluate what you really need to keep and don't.

Im selling my Gamecube (on ebay right now) because Im not really a gamer anymore. In the last few years I've gone from playing pretty much everything to playing mostly sports games. I have an xbox, ps2 and soon a 360 I really should just sell everything since I only really play Pro Evo anymore.

My Job takes up 200 hours a month I am about a month from closing escrow on my first home and I'll be married in January ( it's taken a year to plan the wedding). It's hard to fit gaming into my life and even when I do it dosen't feel the same it's forced. Sometimes I wish i could just sit there and get into a game but I really can't anymore...... *cries*

The only reason why I keep my GC is because I want to play the next Zelda. Then I'll probably sell it.

And that's because of my PS2. Damn you Sony for selling me great games.

It is partially true, though. To buy a game at $50 only to sell it for $20 at most... I never understood trading in 5 games to get one "free" and I don't think I want to.

I sold it because I was bored with it. I bought a Saturn instead. Bored with it and pissed off on how overrated this system is. Sold it for a PS2. Sucks ass. Tried my hand at DS. Blows nuts. I played Metal Slug 2 on my PC for maybe about two minutes before exiting out.

Its safe to say I'm done with gaming. It brings me no joy. Even before this realization, the only joy I had was buying games instead of play them.
