Wii Call of Duty: Black Ops to Blow You Away?

That's what they're saying...

Treyarch are promising to blow Wii owners away with a version of Call Of Duty: Black Ops that's similar to the 360, PS3 and PC versions.

Treyarch were behind the rather rough-looking Modern Warfare Wii port last year but, according to the company's Studio Head Mark Lamia, players won't believe that Black Ops is running on Wii.

"We do everything we can to make the two as similar as possible," Lamia told ONM.

"Whereas we're able to create the same assets that can be displayed on the PS3, PC and the 360, we actually have to do quite a bit of work both on the technology and the assets and the investment is heavy to get it working on the Wii but we're committed to it as we were with World At War and Call Of Duty 3 which was a Wii launch game.

"What we want to be able to do is create the most intense, the most cinematic 'you can't believe this is running on the Wii' situation that you could imagine. That's what people expect from Call Of Duty. They expect to be blown away. We're going to blow you away."

They also said World at War would be the best looking game on the system, or something along those lines.

The developers of the Iron Man 2 game said that it would be better than the Iron Man 1 game. Look what happened there.

Do you know what would blow me away? If Activision acknowledged its existence, after last year with the Modern Warfare port.

Well, Modern Warfare Reflex was pretty damn solid for what it was. Let's see if Treyarch can improve on what they did last year.

This *1000000000000, I have never experienced a situation where the number one selling console system is treated like this.

where is Fyzwzz (can't remember it) to confirm or deny this?

I like wave stick at TV, it fun *drooooooooooool* , I like bright Colourzzzzzzzzz....
enough of my sarcasm.. If you don't have anything nice to say please go away... in with all due respect of course.
unless you sarcasming then I love you??

But what would blow me away is
  • Wii Speak (no points to play etc)
  • and co-op and multiplayer versus local in split screen.
  • Frame Rate would not really matter to much if they can lock it at 30fps that would be a bonus.
  • Keep the control system and to shut people up classic contoller pro support as an option.

That'ssimply not true. They could downgrade a hell of PC/PS360 version to make them as similar as possible (which they obviously won't do).

REFLEX is a pretty solid port given the Wii hardware limitations. Graphics are obviously a step down but they still managed to capture the feel of the game. It's a totally different experience with Wiimote controls, but very fun once you get accustomed to the controls and tweak it to your liking.

Also, according to this, it's being built from the ground up this time by a separate team.

Speaking to Treyarch's enthusiastic studio head, Mark Lamia, a new and exciting insight has been found in Treyarch's upcoming title, Call of Duty: Black Ops. Set to launch across all the major platforms - Wii, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC - Treyarch have literally thrown their entire 200 personnel team behind the project with a new hands on approach. Within this, the Wii version has been built from the ground up by a separate team, but will be almost exactly the same as its Xbox 360 and PS3 counterparts. Despite the different teams, every area of Treyarch has touched the Wii version - from the the multiplayer team, to the single player team, even the co-op team has joined in the fray. The team are working hard to get the Wii version to match its counterparts frame-for-frame.

Well it's true that you had to find the fun in the previous game of your avatar :-/

And seeing the trailer they got on the 360 market place, I wouldn't expect the game to not be doable on Wii, I mean it's not exactly the best looking thing ever

Here's hoping they meet their goals. I haven't been disappointed by Treyarch so far. In fact I'd say they are one of the few who put in a real effort on the system and as a result have had their games sell well.

Oh well, they're actually the only developer that made a good FPS on the system (I count Red Steel 2 and Metroid Prime as first person action adventures) so it'll be at least a competent product I guess. Most uf us who have a second platform probably won't give it a second thought though.

Unless you mind playing fps that don't control like molten shit

I have a 360 and will buy the Wii version, over it (why, because I prefer the way it controls)

Does this statement mean they are trying to get it running at 60fps just like the HD versions?

How have these games sold? Actually, does anyone have the sales data for first person shooters in general on the Wii? I just can't imagine that it's worth the devs time to make these games.

Edit: Just did some googling and found out that World at War sold over 1 mil. Ugh, carry on I guess.

Its a pretty thrown around statistic here on GAF that WaW broke a million on Wii. Not sure where the actual number is, anyone else want to help us out?

EDIT: Beaten by the guy I quoted >_<

Oh, you talking about the PSTriple and the XBOX Fullcircle. Oh well, those aren't really good FPS platforms to begin with, right?

considering how gimped the online is on theses platforms :-/
But don't sweat it you'll know the joy of playing on console too, you'll be forced to anyway :lol

If the Wii version is missing any multi player components this time around, I won't be buying it.

Treyarch would be writing cheques their egos can't cash :P

Don't talk to me about 'Nam you pencil pushers!! , I was in 'nam [ hides under his bed with a hunting knife]

Numbers I heard last time were very roughly:

COD 3 1.3 million
COD WaW 1.45 million
COD Reflex 990'000
Red Steel 1 1 million
Metroid Prime 3 1.2 million

In fairness, Fyzxwhyz, a member of these forums that works for Treyarch, said that the Wii version of CoD3 was literally ported by a two-man team. W@W and MW:R had considerably bigger teams.

Never played the Xbox version, but the Wii version works pretty well!!
Online modes are great and the wiimote controls really makes you never want to go back to regular controllers again

Everything was going so well... than this.
Everytime a dev says ´´built from the ground up for the wii´´.....

And the game still looked like shit.

I'd say MW:R looks pretty great actually, mostly the multiplayer. They managed to turn a lot of the dynamic environment shadows into baked shadows, so levels looked pretty nice, and the weapons looked fantastic all things considered.

Not everything looks flashy, but mostly its a really solid port. Plays really well too.

Great! Figured that there'd be a Wii version, but it's great to get confirmation. Love the concept of Black Ops, and hope they do a lot of spy stuff with it. :D

Stop. This is Treyarch. There's no reason to doubt Treyarch on the Wii. They may not always end up with the best result, but it won't be from lack of effort.

Edit:
And it won't be an on-rails "port."

Another post about how CoD is yearly? Didn't we have one in the last Activision related thread?
