Toss your summer plans out the airlock, grab your friends, and get ready to commit enough space crimes to last a lifetime... #Wildgate launches on Xbox July 22!
Play the Open Beta June 9-16

Game has no hype and with a price tag is probably DOA in a world of F2P titles, but Steam reviews for the beta seem positive from a gameplay perspective.

Skimming through all the complaints are about crashing or CPU temp in the main menu, but even those often say they enjoy the game.

I picked up the game on launch since I enjoyed the beta so much. The game really is a lot of fun to play and many different things to do to help your team. I solo queue and have been having great games and winning a good portion. I really recommend it. Even just buy it on steam and try it for 2 hours to demo it and go from there.

The artstyle is a big fat no thanks from me.

Try again another time ex-blizzard, hopefully with a decent art direction that doesn't look like clown vomit.

A great game imo. I think the art style is solid, audio design is top notch. A well designed multiplayer game that is trying something different and it works brilliantly, cant stop playing it...

God this looks so bad. It's not even worth making fun of or shit posting,

The concept is interesting, but I'm looking at the in-game numbers on Steam and I'm not sure if it can sustain, and the content seems to be on the lower side too.

Big trend in purple the past year or two.
Bisexual Lighting..

I put 70 hours into it.

It's the saddest GAAS failure of my lifetime. It does some really fun, fresh things but it's marred by some fundamental problems. Would have been special with 18 more months in the oven.

You don't know it yet but soon enough you'll say the same thing about Arc Raiders.

Dreamhaven's Wildgate Has Struggled With Sales

It's a tough time for new video game IPs. According to a new report, Wildgate, the new online PvP game from developer Dreamhaven, has struggled with sales since it's release.

Article:
Bloomberg reports that Wildgate has sold just 130,000 units in its first month plus. The data, which comes from a letter Dreamhaven co-founder Michael Morhaime sent to staff.

The Blizzard co-founder said that despite positive reviews from critics, the game performed below commercial expectations. It wasn't just Wildgate that struggled, either. Dreamhaven's other game, Sunderfolk, has sold just 62,000 copies since it released in April. Because of the struggles, he said, the company is looking for new financing.

"Our monthly expenses are outpacing revenue," Morhaime said in the letter, adding that Dreamhaven's focus is to now "urgently" reduce costs.

He added that he is "committed" to making sure the studio survives its current financial turmoil.

It's hard to launch a successful multiplayer game. Outside military shooters, or being free to play, it doesn't seem to work.

The competition for the MP crowd is fierce for sure, you better being something real special to the table to get a seat. And preferably have enough money for a good marketing run and/or catch the interest of some large influencers.

My thoughts on this are the same with games like Fragpunk, in that it would have been so much better with some type of campaign. Even if it was just offline multiplayer scenarios that would still mean a lot towards it's longevity.

I agree wholeheartedly, just leaning on MP/Co-Op "emerging storytelling" leaves you vulnerable if you don't start trending.

I buy plenty of random games while browsing Steam, but most of the time I skim by games that only focuses on MP/Co-Op unless they're already a known factor or it's clearly stated that there's some solo/story content.

Their other title Sunderfolk looks like just my kind of jam (turn-based rpg/tactics), but their whole steam page is plastered with emphasis on Co-Op/Gamenight with friends. Makes me doubt if they've put any thought into an entertaining and balance experience for a solo player. So it'll stay on my wishlist until it reaches a price I feel comfortable paying to take a chance on a dud.

I checked out Sunderfolk. I'm surprised it even sold 62,000 because that seems like a lot for a boardgame that looks like requires people to use their cellphones to play. I buy card/board games off Steam all the time and going by the Steamdb charts and forums they sell lousy. It seems so low I might be only 1 of 1,000 people in the world who might had bought it. And Sunderfolk being a $65 CDN game is a big no no. Even Gloomhaven didnt cost that much. Most of the card/board games I buy usually have a regular price of $20 tops. On deal for about $10. Some are $10 on deal for $5.

Why does every game have that same purple color theme nowadays? It's even more played out than the blue/orange that plagued movies 10-15 years ago.

Yeah, it's a hard sell with that kind of focus. Gloomhaven was suprisingly good. It even made me buy the actual boardgame to play with the wife. Have Frosthaven on my wishlist and will pick it up after full release & a meaningful sale.
