Love that you hit ctrl+f then typed cock to find your own post. I thought the trailers looked good tbh.

This dude is enjoying it quite a lot.

Says it's a really solid game. It's quite challenging too. Right now he gives it a 7.5.

Steam reviews say enough

Wasn't worth the wait, feels very rushed and unpolished, 20 minutes and that was enough to realise how bad of a slop it is. Movement yanky, not being able to jump over smallest obstacles, combat sucks, you cannot do a simple running up attack and always miss, i've seen only 3 takedown animations, missions are repetetive.
Overall the gameplay reminds me of " The Day Before "

Not worth it at any price.

Features:
- High cost of failure: there are no manual saves; if you get knocked out, you'll end up in the clinic, lose all your money, and won't be able to re‑do the failed mission anytime soon (the mission disappears from the map); you'll lose all your money even if you earned it the day before.
- You can only use melee weapons, but you can't take them into a vehicle.

Pros:
- The city and vehicles look visually decent;
- There's a plot and cutscenes.

Cons:
- The city feels dead;
- Many NPCs talk to phantoms (without any interlocutors) - this is a major downside;
- Some NPCs are poorly designed visually;
- Combat is bad and boring;
- Sometimes cars pass through each other;
- At the end of each mission, enemies magically disappear right before your eyes (this is way too bad);
- The game encourages you to knock down sandwich boards with your car... a poor idea for entertainment;
- There are repetitive missions;
- ...

Genuinely one of the biggest disappointments of the year, so far. It's a modern UE5 game so it runs absolutely horribly, generally looks pretty bad too. It looks the best at night, while during the day the roads are permanently wet and make the whole game look like a GTA 5 NEXT GEN 2026 GRAPHICS video.

It's also really damn buggy - the physics get really weird over bumps and elevation changes, NPCs have issues with getting into cars, the AI in general is abysmal, and sometimes NPCs crucial to beating missions don't even spawn.

The hit detection regarding vehicle combat is incredibly inconsistent. The actual feeling of impacts is incredibly weak and sometimes you deal a lot of damage to other cars, while at other times not even causing a scratch. Other cars can fight back aswell, by either taking off 3 pixels of your health or a full 25%. The tasks of chasing other cars down to wreck them are laughably bad. The AI often gets stuck or crashes out and you can't even pull them out of their cars.

The worst part for me is the aforementioned vehicle combat, aswell as the handling.
For a game all about driving, it's incredibly weird and just doesn't feel good.

It takes ages to even start the car and start driving, the sense of speed is nonexistant, the grip is close to none, and most of the cars just wildly understeer into walls.

I get that the handling makes you actually brake and pay attention, but it just feels slow, delayed and just plain not fun. I haven't managed to pull a single slide, and I don't think it's necessarily my fault. The vehicles didn't seem to handle that differently to one another. You can brake, you can avoid damage, you can generally learn to drive "well", it's just not fun.

On-foot combat is decent enough, but not free of issues. You can get stun-locked pretty easily, which isn't helped by the mostly confusing camera. Some of the missions just don't make any sense. You throw down fists with like 20 cops instead of them shooting you down. You chase a car to wreck it, but you can just abandon the chase and switch cars at any time, since the enemies are always on the minimap, they drive in circles, and you can't really lose them.

I get that the technical aspect is something that'll probably get improved over time, but for me, the actual core gameplay is extremely lacking, underdeveloped, and just not fun. I don't see how that will ever change.

Fuck

ALL

that

I just played it for an hour myself. I like it. But it does feel like you're playing something that's like a mix of the precinct, mafia 3 and crime boss rockay city.
Hard one to recommend, but if you have a beefy pc so found fun in those games, it's not a bad pickup. I got over 60 fps the whole time on max settings.

The combat isn't great: you light/hard punch, parry, evade, break stance, R3 finishers. L3+R3 rage mode, you evade away to heal using painkillers. So gotta keep an eye on your health. Haven't mastered the parry times. Pickup items and smack with R1 or throw with L2.
Car combat mission I did has you in a different car so I had no nitro or side ram abilities. Once your car is dead, you gotta run to a stopped vehicle and steal it to keep going and attacking the cars before they get away. I could not hijack moving cars, might be an upgrade.

You pay your debt at the end of the day, or give them all the money you got above the daily debt too, cause you risk losing it the next day if you get knocked out. But helps towards the new day's daily debt. So it's a risk/reward kinda thing.

Was really hyped for this, will wait for patches and then reassess, not losing hope, game is singleplayer so no need to rush in here.

This is pathetic, they knew the game wasn't ready and they still released it

Fuck them. I am glad I didn't buy it

It's $25 and looks like a nice distraction, I'll pull the trigger. Hell, half of you play way more questionable things than this.

If one of those reasons is "if we didn't we would have gone bankrupt and have to let everyone go" then I can understand it, but he should be up front about it.

Agreed. They should've said this and release the game in early access then I would be totally on board with the project and even support them with feedback and such.

The gameplay trailer kinda told us it would be janky. Removed it from my wishlist after that.

Let's hope they rake in enough money to fix the worst.

Exactly. I will never understand why devs release their games too early without labeling them as such. Even CDP should have done that with Cyberpunk (well, they should have delayed it even further, but early access would be second least worst option)

I bought it, but couldn't play that much yet.

Performance is rough, combat is jank, driving is decent, there is even some little car gameplay, like smashing boards, career seems interesting: you owe money so you need to take on quick shady jobs to make cash. There is a "due to today" meter for money, meaning the mob could pressure you/retaliate if you don't pay in time.

The greatest aspect so far is the vibe of the world, if you liked Watch Dogs, GTA IV, or even the latest Robocop games, that's how this looks and feels. I'd even say it's more of an improved version of Robocop, more complex when it comes to character models and environments.

This never changes. Rather than delaying a game by a week or two (especially without a physical release and a publisher breathing down your neck) it's better to release a heavily broken version and just watch the negative scores multiply, leading to lost customers and an even bigger flop.

Literally all the had to say was this is early access and we are gonna work to make it better and they would've had my money. Now I bet this gets abandoned because they are gonna run out of money.

Watched the Jake Baldino review before. He really wanted to like the game so I presume he wasn't just shitting on it for points.

It's a shame really cause there is something appealing about the setup, and jank I can deal with if there's something beyond worth driving (pun) for. I get the impression that the game lacks a meaningful narrative. You're paying off a debt, but there's no interesting story that unfolds, just repetitive jobs to earn and get the debt down.

I was kinda hoping for some faux Shenmue like experience, not in the gameplay style, but the sense of place. Getting familiar with characters, uncovering plotlines, really making the city feel like a place to learn and become home.

The fighting looked like it would have been ok if it was infrequent, again like Shenmue, but it seems to be a big chunk of the game and it clearly isn't polished enough for that.

Since the game doesn't have any save slots, quicksave or last checkpoint etc. (only a continue option) you have to rely on the game not softlocking you, I watched a streamer get stuck in the ground after 3+ hours of play and even after exiting game / continuing game the problem persisted, surprisingly they were having enough fun to keep playing and started over.

It's one of those fun to play but also janky types, hopefully the devs keep up with game updates.

This game gets hard pretty quick. By like the 3rd day I couldn't make payments. When they want $3000 in a day, you gotta complete 2 harder jobs and spend the 3rd job's money to repair your car/refill nitrous.
Your car doesn't get repaired going from day to day. So you gotta pay to repair it, refill nitrous and at the clinic you can buy more painkillers. So if you fork over all your money at the end of the day, you better have your car and pain killers in good standing or it's gonna be tough.

It's definitely not a short game if you fail a mission or two. I haven't been able to raise $3k in a day. So I get that day over and over now and can't choose the story mission. So continuing the campaign goes away if you fail to make the payment.
I was a little short one time so I went around trying to find money on foot. Had some interesting interactions. Some fights and some f'ed up stories. But I guess I took too long, and if you don't pay your daily in time there is some 3 strike system.
I don't know what it is exactly or what it does, but I have 1 strike now. The rogue-lite part of it is that you keep all your experience points which is what unlocks your abilities in the skill tree. The skill tree eventually lets you keep a percentage of your money if you get knocked out.
So like other rogue-lite games, it will get easier to meet the payment amount. But I'm now like 4 hours in and no where near the end.

That's a bit harsh. This is clearly a small team with a limited time and budget and they seem passionate about it. It's clear they ran out of time/money and had to launch before more polish. The price is also super cheap and no one else is attempting a game of this type and size at this price. I think waiting for some patches is fair.

That said, the combat and vibe really remind me of Square Enix's Quiet Man from years back, and that is never a good thing:

Once you learn to quit button mashing, evade enemy heavy attacks instead of trying to time the parry, and then have the upgrade that has you slowly gain HP while in combat if your adrenaline gauge is full, it all starts to click.
The L3+R3 rage mode isn't worth spending that adrenaline gauge. It's better just to keep it gaining HP in-between NPC encounters.

Reminds me of NG3 Razor's Edge, the Ninpo bar was better used as to heal between encounters than to actually release Magic attack/Ninpo power

How is it harsh?
They hid the fact the game was unfinished on purpose, had they been honest about it and released it in early access people would've probably been way more lenient, instead they're probably just gonna go bankrupt because I doubt the sales are good enough.

Yea, but this is kinda during encounters between attackers. It doesn't heal between missions. So you get hit a few times from a few guys, and just slow walk to the next group and you're fully healed again.

Anyone else enjoying the shit out of this game? Seems like a good break from crimson desert. A rogue-like with gta kinda missions is a good idea imo.

My only complaint so far is that it seems that once you're good at the combat and have a few upgrades the only hard parts are the races.

They don't give you a ton of wiggle room when it comes to the races and hitting the check points.

Honestly, it has my attention too. I don;t expect a big AAA extravaganza, but if like a 7/10 title that delivers some interesting gameplay, I might be in. The one thing that did get my attention is the fact that Jesper Kyd is part of the soundtrack. This has been a composer that I have honestly been a fan of since his 16-bit soundtracks on the Genesis.

After watching this... this is about what I expected the game to be. For a UE5 game, it looks alright. Main HUB environment looks smaller scale sandbox-y. I do look at the driving controls, and I still feel like car handling in these types of games haven't really evolved much from Driver on the PS1.

The fact that you are still navigating a car around clunky and doing the whole 'accelerate, brake slowdown, accelerate break slowdown', while the car just 'jerks' along is kind of unrefined. Like I feel like driving mechanics should have evolved beyond this to follow road rules more closely and to should have much more control at proper speed limits. Which doesn't sound very exciting, but I feel like it would feel more immersive to have vehicles that heed to proper road rules. Just a minor long withstanding complaint of mine.

The police that peruse the player has that clunky 'Pac-Man ghost' AI. They have trouble navigating cars around the map, and use very basic tactics. For a game of this nature, it's fine. Combat looks like an Arkham lite. Enviroments look solid for UE5. The game really does remind me of a late 6th generation console game, or maybe an early PS3/ 360 title. It honestly reminds me of Driver 2, and perhaps that's what the devs are going for?

This might actually be worth a purchase. Maybe not a day one purchase.
