I have a free two month trial subscription that came with Burnout3 and would like to use it todownload the Ninja Gaiden Hurricane packs. Problem is I have a modded Xbox. I heard different things about Microsoft checking your Xbox. So question is, should I even bother?
I'm playing perfectly fine on Xbox Live with my modded Xbox (providing the chip is off of course) and have done so for around a year, playing Halo 2 online just a few hours ago.
I would advise that if you went online with your xbox before it was modded not to bother as this will result in a banning (I believe this was one of the reasons for the Live scare just before Halo 2 was released were people were being banned.
However you must accept that going online with a chipped Xbox is a risk to being banned and that you have no right to complain about it. You took the risk and in the end it is your problem if you get banned, no one elses. You just have to decide on whether or not to take that risk.
I would advise you to check the Xbox-scene forums just to make sure I dont have my facts wrong.
You'll be fine. Assuming they do ban you, which they might not, it usually takes about 24 hours from the time of log-on to the banning so you have at least a day or so to download what you want.
I've been using a modded Xbox online for over a year now without any problems. As long as you weren't banned before and tried to get a new EEPROM, you'll be fine.
The thing to remember is to keep XBL turned off in the options setting of the Xbox Dash (use manual log in) and if you want to make sure there's no mistakes, don't leave the ethernet cable plugged in when you're not transferring files or going online.
The way they're getting people now is through the bios and EEPROM & HD combo.
If you try connecting with a hacked bios, you're done.
If you have connected before, but have since changed your HDD, you're probably done unless you've got a new HDD serial AND EEPROM.
if the modchip is ON, it will not connect to live, momentarily to get the pack at all. It's how I found out I left the switch on. It says there is an error connecting. then you turn the switch off and get on for a day. if you have a switch and your xbox premodded has never been on live (after about 16 october of this year or something, that's when the newer better scan started taking place), you should be fine.
Shadow, they started checking serial numbers on the drives at some point. You probably changed before they did that, so now they've only got your new HDD serial on file. If you try and change anything again, you're probably screwed.
That's not correct, they started scanning HDD serial and EEPROM togther around the 16 of october, before that, they weren't matching those 2. If you do that now, then it's screwed as the eeprom won't match up with that new HDD.
EDIT: Beaten. and the banning sucks, if you get it, it's probably cheaper/safer to get a new xbox entirely. that's what I did instead of getting a new HDD.
