She may have something on him that keeps him in the relationship. As he says, this is all business. The concern of what might come out if he goes against her wishes may be of greater threat than sticking around. What might it be? Probably gay or bi. (Honestly, who cares, if that's the case?)

Both seem to have issues. She actually seems to be passive aggressive, Will seems an emotional wreck.

I don’t understand celebrities! They complain about always being on the spotlight yet there they are… making an amateur reality tv show!

I blame both of them! He could easily get out of that marriage. I guess all of years saying their relationship was the most stable in Hollywood was a show!

I was going to say the same thing.

He's got a lot more to lose than her. Jada's career is zero and her laughable skeletons in the closet having been running loose for years. She has nothing to lose. It cant get more embarrassing than having sleeping with a rapper dude in his 20s, while she was in her 40s. And now she's bald to boot.

I'd guess she has proof he was messing around with other women and Will doesn't want that out in full force.

Wow. I was going to say this was 40 years ago. It was in fact 47 years ago done in season 1 1975. Chase was on SNL for only two years (1975-76). I thought he was on much longer than that.

But getting back to the skit, amazing how in the 70s people could see this as dumb humour. But modern day, people would go ballistic.

I'm not even saying that because of his (absolutely legendary) Golden Globes monologue. I'm saying that because, the first time I ever saw the British version of "The Office," I thought, "yeah... this dude's special. He's good."

Two seasons of the British version of "The Office" >>>>>> ALL seasons, combined, of the American version of "The Office."

And I'm saying that as an American.

EDIT: And after "The Office," I saw a short-lived show Ricky Gervais had called "An Idiot Abroad" or something like that. It was absolutely brilliant. Gervais and his main comedy partner, they would send their (British version of "redneck") friend out to exotic locations, and just troll the shit out of this guy on the phone while the guy was acting like, you know... whatever British rednecks are supposed to act like.

Also Gervais had this show called "Extras," a sort of sitcom-type show where he would have real-life celebrity guests. The David Bowie episode in the second series was absolutely brilliant.

They are just humans, but a lot of them don't have the emotional maturity to deal with a lot of money and attention. Think of the people who suddenly win the lottery, something like that.

For a moment it actually seemed that this motherfucker could walk up stage, assault someone live on international television, receive an award minutes later to a standing ovation and walk away from the whole thing unscathed.

Will Smith won't make a movie for 10 years. Then in 2031 he'll star in some Oscar bait redemption story releasing in November/December, and then old gray Will Smith will win another redemption Oscar with a tearful acceptance speech that his ban has finally been lifted.

You are not understanding. During those 10 years he is allowed to be nominated and even win oscars, he just cannot go to the ceremony. Oh, and he keep his oscar too :messenger_grimmacing_

Imagine if it was a nobody or like a staff member that walked up on stage during the broardcast and slapped the host. Like a cook or an usher or something (not the Usher). They'd be in jail, fired, blacklisted etc. He's getting off with a ban from an awards show, pretty fair.

I think the circumstances are a little different. I barely know anything about Polanski, or his crime but it occurred off screen and not on prime time TV live in front of millions of viewers. It also occurred prior to the MeToo era, and while I'm the first to criticize the overzealous fanaticism of feminism/SJWs, MeToo completely has changed the culture in Hollywood for the better in some ways. The default attitude was complicitly hiding these things and covering them up, and that's what they did. They don't do that quite as much anymore.

This is about people wondering if it's safe to attend the event itself if assault can't be ruled out. We saw a complete failure to escort him from the event; a catastrophic lapse of security standards which honestly probably made the punishment worse for him. Because now they have to demonstrate that they don't condone violence, after they basically condoned it that night by letting him stay and giving him a trophy and standing ovation in front of the world.

It's not as simple as just putting Smith and Polanski on the scales of judgment and weighing which is worse. It's a totally different time now. One was wildly public and the other wasn't. And one is literally calling into question whether or not they're even capable of functioning as an event with basic security.

Security did their job then... But they banned Will because NOW they're afraid of violence.

Why do you people act as if Will sent Chris to the hospital with a brutal beating? Legit question.

Everyone keeps saying that this "violent assault on Chris" is inhumane, but it was just a slap. Even if it is incorrect, it's not even remotely comparable to a violent beating in any way. The consequences to the victim are objectively different, with one being life threatening while the other is barely capable of causing minor injuries. The behaviour is also different, since a slap and a beating would relate to different levels of "lack of control".

And the security aspect isn't comparable either, and it's a massive slippery slope. "Oh man, if a guy can slap another guy and nothing happens, then a guy can brutally beat another guy there as well!". Ffs, prior to Will's public statements, a lot of people thought it was staged. Why wouldn't the security personnel think the same?

A little bit of logic in this topic instead of fallacy after fallacy would make this much more tolerable.

How are the situations even remotely comparable? I'd like to see you try to explain why an ovation for a child molester has any relation to an award for a person that slapped another.
