Will Switch 1 Dethrone PS2 sales?

The DS was cheap by the time 3DS was out.

The difference with the Switch 1 and Switch 2, is the the former is NOT much cheaper.
Only very early on, they slashed the 3DS price shortly after launch.

And either way, Switch is still significantly cheaper than Switch 2, especially so with the Lite SKU.

The caveat here is that, the Switch doubles as a handheld.

Would the Switch have sold as well as it has, if it was a traditional home console?

And the PS2 doubled as a DVD player. That's not really the point.

Doesn't matter if a console doubles as coffee maker or a fleshlight; the Switch is by far the most successful and profitable machine ever released, and I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo made more dough with it than with the DS and Wii combined.

100%. It will sell 5 million this holiday season with bundles then the rest over time (it's still doing 50k per week in Japan).

Nintendo also have Switch 1 games throughout 2026 that haven't even been announced yet.

Because the PS2 could be had for $99 while the PS3 price was $599.

3rd world countries loved the PS2 due do that lower level entry price, compared to the PS3.

Switch 1 and Switch 2 don't share this level of a price difference.
You are correct, but Switch 1 and Switch 2 share a big price difference that still makes Switch 1 relevant enough to sell the 7 million systems it needs to overtake PS2. Do you not see the massive hypocrisy in your double standards?

If Nintendo cut the price and had a long crossgen period, it would have happened. But the signs are that they won't cut the price and the cross gen period will be short.

They have Switch 1 games announced for 2026. That guarantees relevancy and at least 3 million units for the entire year. All Switch 1 needs to sell to overtake PS2 is 6 million units as of right now. Do you really think with this holiday period where a new Pokemon game is dropping and the entirety of 2026 where it's still being supported heavily that it won't sell at least 6 million in that 15 month time frame?

Nintendo still hasn't pushed the "deploy gb/gba pokemon games on NSO and bundle them with a Switch Lite" button like they did for 3DS in 2016.
