Will Switch 1 Dethrone PS2 sales?

Currently stands at 154.01m so its beaten the PS2 sales before Sony made the 160m figure up.

And if those daft twats would simply slash the price of the Switch it'll easily and considerably surpass that pretend figure in 2026.

I have no idea why Nintendo keep shovelling out the same Nintendo IPs again and again. How many Mario Karts, Mario xxxx do you actually need? Even Zelda has become a waste of time. They used to be forward thinking with Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time but now it's rinse and repeat.

I'd rather play a diverse set of new IPs and not on a stupid handheld. I sit on a train for 50 minutes to get to work, no way am I paying 200 odd notes for a subpar games machine when I can get home after work and sit and use my PS5 / XBox to play in the comfort of my front room. I'd rather listen to music on the commute

I don't think they care about beating that number when they've sold so many at full price unlike the ps2.

It's a shame OP is banned, his post was an instant classic.

In contrast, the Switch faces tougher competition from other devices, especially smartphones and tablets, which can cover some of the same entertainment use cases. Today, there are literally billions of smartphones and hundreds of millions of tablets in circulation, meaning the Switch has had to establish itself in a world crowded with multifunctional devices.

Taking all these factors into account, the Switch is already the clear winner for me.
And also add up those Smartphones/tablets since the last years are way more powerful than Switch, to the point even nowadays mid-low end devices can emulate switch...So people can have all the mobile gaming experience, plus an unofficial free switch experience on their devices, but instead they choose to buy the actual Switch anyway, which makes the Switch numbers way more impressive... Ohh and don´t forget the competition of portable PC-Consolized devices (Steam Deck, Asus Rog Ally etc), which are more niche oriented, but can offer a current AAA PC-Gaming experience on the go and can emulate switch, but, again, most people rather choose to actually buy the Switch, even if they´re enthusiast users and probably have both devices.

and there are good chances they reach those remaining +6 millions to beat PS2 sales without a price cut... Hope not, at this point Switch should have been more affordable than ever, but you know good ol'Ninty...

My friends and I all used our PS2s as our standard DVD players, so my anecdote cancels out yours.
Yeah, but i live in Brazil, the PS2 at the time was at least 2x more expansível than a dvd players, thats the major point on why ppl didnt bought PS2 for dvd players over here.

We bought ours as primarily as a gaming system, but having it highly double as a DVD player was convenient. I still use the PS5 in the same way (but I watch far fewer discs now because of streaming services).

Why are we looking at FY8 for Ps2 and FY10 for Switch?

I think the biggest hurdle for Switch now is that Switch 2 is doing so incredibly well. I now expect Nintendo is going to move on a lot faster than I did previously.

They'll be at +156M by March 2026. Beyond that it gets iffy for me, maybe +158M by March 2027. But after that it might nosedive if Nintendo cuts support completely.

They'll let Sony fans celebrate their enduring win.
Then a few years down the line, when Koizumi retires, he'll do a few interviews and reveal that they recounted and the actual number is 161 million.

I thought it would but it's slowed down faster than I expected. Next year, switch 2 will gain even more steam and the switch will slow to a crawl. Nintendo will end production not long after.
