The real question is will people be able to actually buy them or are scalpers going to suck the market dry for 6+ months.
Indeed, first few weeks if not months we gonna see likely 700usd scalper price in the US, maybe once avaiability gets better around holidays console will finally be sold at msrp streetprice :)

Yes, because this record is as much about production capacity as it is about demand, and reports are that Nintendo has been stockpiling units for months.

I think that the price of the console and games will be too much to break records. With that said, I'm still buying one Day 1.

UK pre-orders went up early on two major outlets and sold out instantly for both SKUs.
peoples still dont understand ahah

Launch is going to be big no matter what.

The most interesting thing will be after that, in the long run.
Is Nintendo's audience going to buy another, pricier Switch? I expect some kind of DS to 3DS scenario.

Nope

Lineup isn't compelling

Price is outrageous

I don't think people will feel compelled to upgrade from MK8 as a party game title.

It'll sell okay out of the gate, but it won't have the fervor the original Switch had

At first glance, I saw no reason why not....

As time went on, the price, the price of the games, the launch filled with ports...I don't know about that bruvs. Its sounding like this will be a big deal to the hardcore earlier adopters, but anyone who owns a Switch 1 will be good for some time, I don't see enough here to suggest it will break a record for Nintendo.

Maybe Mario Kart is enough, who knows, but right now, based on the news we are hearing, I'm saying maybe not.

peoples no care bout price they will buy anyway thirs is why oled selling the best and nintendo charge full pricing for old games break sells records

you will seeeee ahaha

The early adopters will buy it no matter what. I don't know what that number is, but when it comes time for mom and dads en masse to be forking over $450 and $80/$90 a game for little Timmy ( or $500 with Mario Kart included), that lands like an Acme anvil on Wile E.'s head.

With the current economical landscape I doubt it. Specially when you take into account that games made specifically for the console cost $80. It seems you need a second job to buy a Switch 2….

No chance on beating the Switch, which launched in March and had 9 months in the market with a strong holiday season. Most consoles launch in the 4th Qtr though so I do expect overall sales to be strong since its launching in June with no other new console launch in 2025.

Unlike most on this forum apparently, I think the Switch 2 looks really good. I think the games look really good. It is a bigger upgrade than I was expecting. That said, it is too expensive for its primary market, which is families and kids. $80 games are just jaw dropping.

I think 5m to 10m hardcore fans are going to buy the hell out of this and then it's going to plateu when it's time to have the younger audience come in and bring it to 20m. We have at least 18 months of this BS left in the US.

It should sell better than Switch 1 at launch - as Switch 1 did not sell that great in the beginning - but overall I think Switch 2 is similar to SNES. Granted it will have a bigger longevity still.
I agree with this like the SNES or 3DS. Still good but not as good as the predecessor.

It's gonna do fine but with tariffs and this new pricing strategy a million essays will be written before Christmas.

Kinda feel like they are doing a soft launch this summer. Not having games at launch is becoming the norm now

I don't think word of mouth will be great unless they drop the prices of hardware and software. With download keys in play the real price of hardware will be jacked up even more with taxes and sd cards. And the games are insane compared to non-Nintendo platforms.

I don't want to count Nintendo out yet. I also won't be shocked if this sells more like Wii U than switch with these prices.
