Will this workaround let me use the PS2 Network Adapter (or Live)?

Hail to the KING baby
Someone suggested this to me, but I'm not sure if it will work though I'm certainly ready to spend the cash if it will.

Here is the problem I'm working around:

In the student housing here, they only allow one computer per room to connect, period. So basically all I have in my room is a blue ethernet cord that hooks up to my registered laptop, nothing else. Registration on the network itself requires having Windows XP and using IE to get your computer scanned for viruses, etc. I want to be able to use my computer (or anything) to either create a wireless or wired network/connection to the PS2/X-Box.

Someone suggested I could pull this off simply with a USB Ethernet Adapter connecting my laptop to the NA using a crossover cable.

That sounds great but it almost seems too easy considering the apparent complexity of my problem. Will it work? If not will anything else?

what you can't use a router or a hub? my schools connection also restricts 1 connection / 1 computer, but I'm able to connect to live on my Xbox and PS2 with no problems using a Hub. As long as I was logged in on my computer I had no problems.

You could install another nic in your PC and plug the PS2 in there.

Unless they have some kind of advanced MAC filtering you should be good to go.

^^ And yeah the hub/router system will work too.

Can you explain this, I am a complete network novice. All the guides I read seemed to require some sort of modem (or a router which I'd have to register, and couldn't) from which to connect, and I don't have that, just the blue cable. It sounds identical to your situation though, in which case if you could just tell me what you are using and how you did it I could just copy you.

Do you think that usb-ethernet adapter thingie will work? It seems easiest and cheapest. I'm on a laptop and I don't think I have lots of spare room for networking components (though to be honest I have no fucking idea, for me USB=EZ).
