Will Wright comments on Rev controller

The amount of individual designer support for Nintendo's imaginative Revolution controller has been overwhelmingly positive. The Sims and SimCity creator Will Wright recently chatted with Shacknews about a variety of topics, including his personal thoughts on Revolution.

As has been seen from other designers, Wright is all for it. "I'm really interested in the Revolution to see how the controller works out. That looks pretty cool," he says. "It looks very interesting to me. I like the idea of taking the games more outside the box and more into that close-body kind of space."

Considering the answer came in response to a question about whether Wright had been playing anything interesting lately, the praise is noteworthy.

The amount of work still left on Wright's ambitious Spore project means it's too early to speculate whether he's considered working on a Revolution project, but positive word of mouth from the creator of the best selling PC game of all time certainly can't hurt.

So Spore is pretty much a lock for Revolution?

Well duh! That article pretty much screams that Spores is not only a lock, but exclusive to Revolution.

Well, now that both Peter Molyneaux AND Will Wright have confirmed that they will be Nintendo Revolution exclusive what does this mean of the outlook of the upcoming generation? I think this has 2 profound implications:

1. Nintendo Revolution is cool.

2. Nintendo Revolution will be number 1.

3. Nintendo Revolution is awesome.

4. Nintendo Revolution will win the generation.

So not only is Spore an exclusive launch title for Revolution, but its actually packed in with the console for free?

Nice. :)

What? Spore is going to transcend videogaming and allow you yourself to evolve into an elite couch potato while playing Spore with your remote control?

...purple monkey dishwasher.

But Will Wright is linked to EA......

Nintendo to buy EA!

Megaton!

when i spoke with Wright at E3, he said he was rooting for Nintendo.

it's good to see that he brings up the Revolution controller, when asked if he's been playing anything interesting lately.

It shows he's as disconnected from the here and now as possibly can be?
all i know is that they asked him what he's played that's interesting as of late, and he says "I like the idea of taking the games more outside the box and more into that close-body kind of space.", and only speaks of the Revolution controller.

i'd like to hear what he'd say when asked straight up, what he thinks of the controller, and possibilities. especially considering he was rooting for Nintendo.

Is there any link to the actual interview itself? If he was indeed asked if he had played anything interesting lately, and he responded with praise of the Revolution's controller, then it at least means that Nintendo have approached him and let him play around with the thing, which is always good.

That being said, Spore would make quite the excellent exclusive game to show off the Revolution with. A style and scope quite beyond what you can get on other platforms would be a perfect illustration of what Nintendo want to do with the console. Of course, there's not a chance that the game would go exclusive, EA would make far too much money off the PC version to do something like that. Console-exclusive, perhaps, but my bet is that we'll see the game (a while after the PC release, which is when, btw?) on each of the next-gen consoles.

I wouldn't call that overly positive at all. Still, nice to see Wright's behind it.

When I saw the Rev unveiled, one of the first things I thought about was how well it seemed to fit Will Wright's game-making philosophy and how appropriate Spore, or any of his games would be with a sort of tool like the remotroller. Hopefully he drops an idea to somebody down the line for a game.

Well, all these comments are for nothing until we actually start to see some games announced for the system, anyway, which won't be until at least after we know the final name of the console. Countless big-name developers have praised the controller in this sort of way, but we'll just have to wait and see if this produces anything tangible.
