Wind Waker Remake -- Real?

I know, I know. This has been done to death, but look at what Ivan Sulic (IGN PS2 Editor) said in the latest Roundtable:

Ivan Sulic, IGN PS2: Rope has it. The new Zelda plus the preorder remake of Wind Waker will keep me occupied for a long time. Additionally, I greatly look forward to trying a bunch of mediocre Xbox Next launch titles on my HD system just to, "See how this crazy s*** looks, dawg!" Yeah, I'm sure there will be a few winners up in there, but I'm not holding my breath.

Also, let's not count out F.E.A.R., Aftermath, King Kong, Prince of Persia 3, Black, Battlefield 2, Marvel Nemesis, and maybe 30 other games I either can't remember or can't talk about.

And will it be as dense? No. It will be more dense. PSP, Xbox Next, GCN, Xbox, PS2, Gizmondo, N-Gage, GBA... Kill me.

Maybe that's just ignorance... but...

GS: What's the lasting impression you want people to walk away with after they leave your booth at E3?

RF: We want them to leave feeling that "Wow, Zelda is going to be a huge hit and I want it now. And I'm going to go to my local retailer and put a deposit for the super premium edition of the game," which we'll make available.

...Mega Man X really does have a Hadouken move. You can actually do a Kintaro morph fatality move as Shang Tsung. Sometimes the most "out-there" sounding April Fools jokes are the ones that end up being true.

Honestly, it does seem like a bit of a waste of dev effort if it's true, it feels like either they're selling out, or trying to prove that Wind Waker looked better as cel-shaded. (Because the effects and characters were designed around it, of COURSE if you slap realistic textures and models in there, it's going to look more generic. The New LoZ is designed around the more realistic look.) Maybe if they just did a "Highlights" disc, that took you through a few memorable areas reworked carefully.

The plot thickens... :)

Of course, it would be cheap to make as all the changes needed would be changing textures and models. Everything else IS done.

and the lighting engine, as well as the entire graphical design of all the levels, as they wouldn't work well at all in many cases with "realistic" enemy designs. the entire game is designed to look like it does: and giant living cartoon world.

Hiding in a barrel comes to mind. And the pigs.

Yeah, it's a nice thought, but the effort would be better spent on a new game.

What if they just took Zelda: The Wind Waker and added the two dungeons they cut out?

Isn't that kinda the same thing they did with Ocarina of Time/Ura-Zelda?

Seems ... possible.

Remaking the game from the ground up visually would kick ass, but I think it would require too many resources. A "special edition" version of the existing Wind Waker with the two extra dungeons seems more plausible.

Playing along for just a second, if this is true, it's going to be really hard not to scream some sort of obscenity at Nintendo's Press Conference.

MQ was already somewhat completed. They just remixed the dungeons (the most notable one that comes to mind was the Shadow Temple).

It's real, I have it. My dad's uncle's cousin works at Nintendo. I also have Revolution already, and Grand Theft Auto Scotland looks so kewl on it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

Why? You're getting a free game just for pre-ordering.
Hey isn't that the same game I paid $50 for back on March 25th, 2003? My pre-order incentive is playing through a game I already own with a different coat of paint? Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh!

Let's say they throw in extra content - now they're giving away a game I paid for two years ago with the subtext that it's the "definitive" version and the implication those dungeons should have been there in the first place.

Ocarina of Time worked well because it'd be so long since release, an entire hardware generation, and the extra content had previously been infeasible to release on its own. For them to take a game I bought what, two years ago, gussy it up and give it away for free, I take that as a big "fuck you."

Let's say they throw in extra content alongside a graphial rehaul - now they're giving away a game I paid for two years ago with the subtext that it's the "definitive" version and the implication those dungeons should have been there in the first place.

Dude ... it'll be FREE.

It might not be as callenging as we think .... seems the "mature" link zelda is re-using quite a number of monster/characters in WW. If "mature" zelda is using the same engine as WW, they might be able to "upgrade" WW's graphics without much problem.

but I think it's just too sweet to be true.

Mary Ryan, IGN Guides: Er, that Zelda remake was an EGM April Fool's joke, right?

Ivan Sulic: April Fool's joke? Damn! F*** it. I don't care, then.

So why should I buy this edition? Won't it just be completed and offered free of charge when the next Zelda comes out?

I can't believe this is even being discussed :p
Arguing about pointless shit is the spine of this forum.
