Windows 10 |OT| Something Happened? Something Happened.

Is it safe to update to the creators update yet? Last time I tried it slowed down my computer and I had to revert back.

Hey I'm kind of a computer beginner but I had a question about data usage. The past 3 months my comcast usage has doubled and I wasn't sure why. I checked out some stuff and twitch takes up 1 gb of data for every hour it's on. I've been watching twitch streams for years and this has been only become a problem recently. Any tips on how to reduce the usage? Chrome has shown 800 gb of usage just from my laptop, which is ridiculous.

Stream at lower resolutions. Lower bitrate=less bandwidth consumption.

I don't know, man, I completely lost trust in MS. Everything they tried seem to be half-assed for me. Whether it's their email program, DVR, multi-monitor support and UI scaling among other different things (none related to the Creator's update, yet). And after reading so many troubles (plus I think MS tries to take away control from the user with every new Windows version and update) I just stick with a running system.

Thanks for the advice, but that wasn't an issue until recently, and I've watched a lot more streams in the past. Any other reason why google chrome could be using so much data?
My guess would be recent changes to Twitch which allows higher resolution/bitrates for non-partnered accounts. You're probably now watching them at 1080p60 with higher bitrates than before, on average.

You could test it with another browser and see if you observe different results, but I doubt it's a browser issue.

Why do OneDrive keeps randomly downloading files I didn't asked it to, nor any application is trying to use them?

Edit: With on demand active.

I think I pin pointed what the issue is. Whenever I add a video file to my Onedrive it will download the entire video, create a thumbnail and then delete the local file, and I think it does that for pictures too...

Is this the correct behavior? Seems like a total waste.

Anyone else have trouble installing the creators update? I've been trying to install it several times now and when it's installing on the black screen it hits 40% and then pops up an error saying "Windows 10 could not configure one or more components. Please restart the update again" and that's it no warning or error numbers. I've gone through all the online topics and tried all the fixes/solutions and I can't seem to get it to work.

After Fall Creators Update hit I think I'll leave the insider program.

I was just taking a look at my feedback. There are some annoying bugs I reported over a year and a half ago that still haven't been fixed, and I usually provide screens, captures, steps on how to replicate the issue... And nothing. Not to mention some countless features that got merged and got a respectable amount of votes but they are largely ignored too.

I'm sure Ms listen to someone, but if they are not listening to me, what's the point for me to continue in the program?

I am having the "this setting is managed by your organization" problem and can't get rid of it :( I tried the user-group fix but it did not work for me. I was thinking Bitdefender might be the problem, but it's working fine on my SP3.

Holy shit I thought that Creators Update fucked up my old ass Laptop for good.

Like nothing worked anymore, Wifi, Ethernet, Graphics driver, ugh.
Luckily I was able to revert and now everything is fine again. What is in that update that this happens?

Had to format my PC and now I can't log in my Microsoft account. It says profile couldn't be loaded etc. I can sign in fine through the web browser but not through the Windows Store or the account section in settings.

^ OS Build #?

Type winver in start menu.

Base version of Creator's Update (15063.0) is problematic for upgrades. First cumulative update fixed it, but sometimes setup doesn't apply cumulative update during upgrade for some installations. Without cumulative patches, computers behave what you described.

I am getting a weird "can't install from USB stick" error with 1703 update - with windows update, not actually updating from USB stick...

I cannot stop my computer from waking up whenever I'm gone every day, all of a sudden. I turn off wake timers, I turn off keyboards, mice, and networks from waking it up, it still fucking wakes up. I cannot figure out what is waking this fucking computer up.

Last time this happened to me it was the Intel network adapter itself, not something on the network, waking the PC.

In device manager look for your network adapter and ensure it's set to not be able to wake your PC.

has any one ever had a problem with their PC or laptop auto dimming videos? The screen darkens during dark scenes for some reason, and I've tried every setting related to brightness and googled the problem a 1000 times, but I can't fix it. Thanks.

Anyone using RS3 final build? Is it reliable enough?

That sounds like Intel graphic driver and its powersaving features.

I'm going back to 7. This os is a nightmare. I couldn't fix disk usage 100%. I was forced to update yesterday, when the pc was fine 2 days ago.

What a headache.

Edit: and what you know, windows 7 works perfectly.

I'm going back to 7.

Consider setting up GPT partitioning as well for UEFI systems since you're clean installing.

No and no. Build is initially better than 15063, but there is still some cleanup to do. I wouldn't jump to 16299.15 when it appears. Wait for next cumulative update.

Version 1703 Build 15063.632

Guess you can try resetting again.

Diagnosing this kind of stuff on a message board is not easy. There is also no incentive to help people here since no one is getting paid.

Why the fuck does Windows 10 automatically install free2play games and other crap apps? Clean install of the Fall Creators Update (1709) and there's almost a gigabyte worth of this unwanted shit already there. Candy Crush, Facebook, March of Empires, Minecraft, etc. Why?!?! Pro version and using offline account (not logged into Windows Store). Is there any way to disable this during the installation process that I've missed?

Trying the latest Windows 10 update and it's fucking with my monitors. The restart during the update leaves no signal on either but if I restart manually I get a signal on the #1 screen but it's just a black screen.

Does it really install it or are those only tiles that start downloading things once you click on them? But yeah, that shit is stupid.

Update is finished but now I get get a compatibility assistant message every 10 seconds and it won't stop. I manged to uninstall the app in question but as it's Riva Statistics Tuner I want to keep it. I haven't tried the update it sent me to as I don't want to go through the whole process again.

Happy Fall Creators Update release day everyone.

Not live yet but once it is you should be able to use the Windows 10 Update Assistant to update immediately, otherwise it could be a while until it rolls out to your particular system.

One tip: If you know anyone who uses Edge favorites, back them up prior upgrading. Somehow, MS still doesn't know how to back them up correctly especially in a multiple user setup.

Did they ever add a way to check battery level on an xbox one controller.

I use mine with the wireless adapter, and I find it very strange that being a Microsoft product there is no way to see what my charge level is....

Isn't this update supposed to have the GPU option under Performance in task manager? Don't see it, but maybe it's because my laptop only has an Intel HD 4000?

(edit) fixing an oversight in my original post below

It's there.

My laptop has two GPUs: One integrated and one discrete.

In the panel I see both of them, one is GPU 0 and the other is GPU1.

You sure you got the fall creators update? Your windows version should be 1709 if so. You can check this from typing "winver" in the run panel by pressing Win+R

Yes 1709 with all the other new stuff. Maybe it doesn't support older integrated GPUs?

Your driver needs to be WDDM 2.0 compatible, I think.

You can check it by running dxdiag (WIN + R, "dxdiag") and then switch to the display tab. It shows you the current driver model on the right side under driver.

the only things that don't have wddm 2.0 drivers are like Intel HD 4000 or pre 400 series Nvidia and similar. We're talking about really old GPUs.

And the user who was asking about it just happens to have an Intel HD 4000 integrated GPU.
