Windows 12 Delayed

The secure hardware required to upgrade has probably not been invented yet so they bit the bullet and delayed. Not their fault, security above all else.

12? BWAAAhahahaha
I'll stop laughing when they get that darn gaming edition out. Come on Microsoft, there was an article today about how Windows has lost over 400 MILLION users.
lost.

Since work moved from google services to ms, every single email message has a huge block of text appended that is all about security. As if to say "look at how secure this is".

As an aside, the software is garbage too.

Very few retail users upgrade as soon as it launches so it takes a couple years to start adopting, but then they're going to release another one?

Between work and home, I think I've only been on Win 11 for 2 years now and upgrading is looking less of a sure thing going forward as companies turn their software into cloud based apps.

Wonder what silly hardware requirements this will have? Hardware NPU?

Same for 98.
98 was very bloated and ran poorly since they decided to integrate Internet Explorer into the entire shell. It was also a huge security risk rue to ActiveX scripts, so much so people started running 98lite with restored the original Windows 95 explorer. Windows ME was a lot more refined and performed a lot better, plus you have the added features of System Restore.

What are they locking out this time? No 12th gen or lower Intel chips? RTX4000 minimum? Comes with Copilot++ which now records your webcam and mic at random intervals to "help" you.

It is crazy how much they keep trying to fuck shit up. Like I'll never stop using windows because macOS is just not fun and I game. But like…just make it user friendly and charge the $200 and remove all the ads and bloat shit

I mean makes sense they pretty much had a monopoly on it since forever. Gen z and Gen alpha are all about Macs and mobile nowadays.

Windows 11 was a totally useless upgrade from Windows 10 and I'm sure that Windows 12 will follow in that proud Microsoft tradition.

This is a response to the story and recent sentiment that windows has "been the problem all along" for PC gaming. They also extended Win 10, iirc. They will require a ms account but that is just some big brained idea they had right before the delay. The REASON for that delay is this delay I expect.

Since then they have been in a rush behind the scenes to make Windows the perfect place for gaming from a technical perspective. Funny how they waited all this time to do that, but there was a catalyst here and caused all this. Perhaps "Steam OS" is coming to mind. Did a recent version for a PC handheld make it a much better gaming machine?

Well yeah, they are finally fixing windows for real for gaming, or so I suspect. They will want this "fix" rolled out with a new OS because it is always a struggle giving people a reason to upgrade.

Win12 will advertise better gaming as the reason to upgrade. Mark it down. It will actually be improved too, just not as much as it could be when weighted against their desire to advertise things to you and collect your data.

Hopefully they will make Win 12 more gaming oriented and lightweight for optimal performance in order to compete with Steam OS that will sooner or later come to desktop PC or it's over for MS. Good to have competition

Have they said they will release a Windows 12? I am sure we will get a Windows 12 eventually - but I thought the whole point of Windows 10 was that it would be the last named Windows upgrade - but then they were forced to go to Windows 11 to avoid mass confusion when they incorporated the hardware security features.
